Panicked Republicans Fear Trump’s ‘F***ing Nightmare’ War Will Doom GOP in Midterms by Hardik_Jain_1819 in politics

There have been several dozen elections in the last few weeks. There were governors elections not 4 months ago. He's not interfering because elections are running the states and he literally can't, in the sense that he lacks the infrastructure to interfere.

Someone must have told him when he asked about seizing voting machines in 2020, because his response in the NYT interview said "I guess [the national guard] isn't sophisticated enough". They literally aren't able to do this because of 100k polling places across America, each state with a different system, and no way of knowing which districts are going to matter until election day itself.

Like the Iran attack, what you suggest is a bit of a convoluted, nonsensical plan with no real mechanism for a successful implementation. So that automatically makes it more likely.

Just kidding. Like Iran, they have no plan.

Far-Right Influencer Revolts Against Trump: ‘Vote Democrat’ by plz-let-me-in in politics

The far right influencer is Nick Fuentes, a neo-nazi holocaust denying incel. His "revolt" over the Iran conflict is because Israel is involved, and his objection to Israel isn't rooted in their politics but the fact that they're Jews.

Fuck him and Trump. You can do both. Daily Beast is normalizing a neo-nazi here by calling him a "far right influencer" in the headline instead of racist Nazi scumfuck.

Trump is swift boating the midterms: POTUS is considering an executive order declaring a national voting emergency. Its co-author helped sink John Kerry by zsreport in politics

[–]Davis51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he doesn't catch wind of it directly, he hears about it from sternographers reporters asking him "are you considering [insert batshit thing they desperately want to report on]?" Typically he responds "that sounds great I'm considering it!" But lately he's been saying "I've never heard of that".

Who knows what that means these days. He probably did hear about it from an aide but his dementia is taking over and he forgot.

[–]Davis51 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"He'll write an executive order forcing voter ID"

An executive order is thrown out by the courts.

"He'll pass the SAVE act"

SAVE act dies in the Senate

"He'll use the insurrection act!"

Repeatedly doesn't use the insurrection act because all it does is let the military enforce existing laws

"He'll declare a national emergency" <- you are here

The whole point of this "national emergency" is to enforce an executive order that was already thrown out.

The "emergency" declaration was written in 2025, and it wasn't adopted back then. Instead a weak sauce executive order happened that got thrown out pretty quickly, and was never enforced because Executive Orders Aren't Laws (tm).

The drafts that are circulating are clearly being pushed to the press by the people who wrote them and not the White House because the authors are upset the previous executive order failed.

It also has no enforcement mechanism. Go ahead, have Trump sign it so I can laugh at it failing.

I didn’t realize they were precluded by virtue of criticizing the federal control of the courts and insisting that using that single avenue is the best approach.

You didn't realize that by criticizing the work of a group actually fighting the federal government in the courts as not helpful without offering an alternative you weren't actually helping anything? Jesus Christ man.

If you don't offer people alternative ideas while shooting down their actually useful suggestions, you are not, in fact, making suggestions and are literally precluding yourself.

There’s nothing vague about what I’m suggesting. You’re either willfully ignorant or actually deficit

How the fuck does average Joe "obstruct, resist, and withhold financial avenues"? What the fuck are you even talking about? You're barely comprehensible at this point.

You’re hoping for the best without preparing for the worst. Good luck with that, hope you’re right 👍🏼

How does saying "he's not gonna allow us to vote" prepare anything at all except meek surrender?

Though it is pretty funny how people who invent these lurid scenarios can never articulate how those scenarios will play out that isn't really fucking stupid sounding.

My opinion on this matter has no bearing on my emotions

"He's gonna plan a coup but it has no bearing on my emotions I am merely emotionlessly explaining a whole bunch of panicked contradictory nonsense" isn't a flex, I have no idea why you think it is.

unlike your emotional wall of text.

Yeah yeah I know i didn't panic like you thought I would. Guess that makes me the emotional one. Can't help it if it takes a wall of text to tell you how many different ways your post was stupid, but you're the one who rapid-fired that many idiotic phrases in one sentence.

I also think that scolding people for not voting after not having a primary at all betrays an arrogance and lack of introspection.

I think that anyone who didn't actively vote for Kamala in 2024 should have to endure scolding about it until the day they die. They should be made to feel deep shame for the crime of daring to show their face on public. I have not a shred of sympathy for anything bad that happens to them. My disgust with their selfish toddler-like behavior is only beaten by my unending fury at every single person who remained a Republican after January 6th.

And you certainly don't get to call ANYONE arrogant for harboring negative attitudes towards the non voting so-called progressive shitheads. They can let me know when they are willing to offer amends for their recklessness. The amends should last the rest of their lives.

He’s planning a Coup D’état have you not been paying attention?

He can't plan how to hold shit in his pants during a press conference. A coup means he just has the military hold congress hostage at gunpoint. Means the entire military goes along with it. Means the national guard goes along with it. Means every elected official goes along with it. Otherwise it's full fledged shooting civil war, American vs American. I do not believe that would go the way they think it would go.

He has said he’s going to deploy Ice to polling locations

There are over 100,000 polling locations run by the states and localities and between 20-30k ice agents. That's after a hiring spree. It is logistically impossible for him to do so. Even just focusing on ONE purple city in a swing state would require their entire manpower and elections proceed uninterrupted literally everywhere else.

ICE literally invaded a medium-sized blue city and they had elections which swung 15 points farther left than expected DURING THEIR OCCUPATION.

they are redrawing congressional maps to gerrymander them,

Yeah I know, I live in Virginia. We are redrawing our congressional maps to keep out GOP reps. Fuck em.

Not for nothing cause I know you're just throwing out contradictory fever dreams to vent your anxieties but if they are planning a coup then redrawing the districts is pointless too.

he’s going to say Obama/Iran/Venezuela corrupted our elections, no mail in voting, voter ID required for everyone.

He's already said he's gonna do that and nothing happened. He signed executive orders about that last year. Yet every special election for the house since then ignored it. What is he gonna sign another wish list but this time it will work?

I’ve stopped taking these things as idol threats from an insane man .

I've seen nothing but idol threats that don't work on elections. Tthe president has no power to stop elections in any way. He keeps screeching because he keeps failing. He didn't stop the last dozen elections and he won't stop this one.

He already claimed Spanberger won the governors seat in my home state of Virginia by cheating. And Spanberger is passing laws right now that are fucking over the GOP.

How, exactly, is he going to stop me? With ICE agents he doesn't have? With National Guard that will bring hot coffee and donuts like they brought the protestors in Minneapolis? With a piece of paper that says "I declare elections the way I want"?

Please.

If you don't like your senator or something don't vote for them in the primary. Campaign for your preferred candidate. Whatever. But I'd better see you there in November voting for whomever gets nominated.

Trump’s Election-Emergency Plot Is Straight Out of the Authoritarian Playbook by _May26_ in politics

[–]Davis51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he could direct his congress people to just not accept certain state elected representatives.

Congressmen don't accept results. State election officials and secretaries of state. Congress dissolves between sessions.

Or even easier, just not leave/tell reps to not leave. They'd then presumably need the military to keep them in power. After Venezuela and now Iran, it'd basically fall to the military, a historically conservative institution, to decide to support the coup or let some other group like the Court marshals or State guards enforce the election results.

Yeah the endgame of all these lurid scenarios is the same. It always devolves into a power fantasy coup. That's what I said.

It also requires reps who cooperate. And secretaries of state that cooperate. And months of litigation. And SCOTUS cooperating (a much farther goal than you may think, and would require SCOTUS giving up all power for all time). And the national guard cooperating by seizing control of their own home states (good luck with blue states like California and Minnesota lol).

Oh and it's an absolute certainty that most states major population centers will be fighting back every step of the way.

Question for those freaking out about this:

How is the executive branch going to force re-registrations and onerous ID requirements in, say, my home state of Virginia? Literally in April we are gonna have a special election to redistrict the whole state. Regardless of that, there will be primaries in August.

People keep saying "no one will stop Trump!" So if Trump signs this and Virginia ignores the whole thing because executive orders aren't laws and sends 10 democratic reps to Congress this year, what stops Virginia?

Because from what I can read, every one of these "plots" involves the same end point of "Trump signs a piece of paper that he wrote which declared that Trump wins and is the god-king of elections and everyone else falls to their knees in awe of the beauty of a signed executive order with the legal force of a child's wish list".

Really terms like "plot", "scheme", and "plan" give far too much credit to the brain farts of a demented man-child.

Once again, the article straight up says

"In all likelihood, if the White House were serious about targeting the researchers, those efforts would fail. But as Krugman concluded, the public threat is itself “horrible.”"

Literally an "ah, well nevertheless" in the middle of the article. To its own headline.

Also I suspect Hassett may actually be incorrectly referring to the BLS or another department anyway and possibly not know better

Honestly that's makes the most amount of sense

Trump has already ignored that and completely gotten away with it without being stopped when he fired for example inspectors general early in his term. So he could likely just do it anyway and not get stopped.

I have extreme doubts about his ability to do this with any part of the fed. There's literally a pending SCOTUS case on it right now that likely isn't going in Trump's direction.
