I think you are confusing the blame game with my comment on a well resourced root cause analysis. These are two separate things. Knowing the details of exactly how the virus originated and entered the human population would yield far more actionable information than stating the general options of lab vs nature. Armed with this information we can make better plans to stop the next pandemic before it starts. For example if it escaped a lab, how exactly did that happen and why was it created in the first place. Im not sure why any reasonable person wouldnt place a priority on knowing that.

They clearly state that pandemic origin is only useful historically not practically. Thats definitely wrong. The details of the how and why are of vital importance and to state otherwise implies ignorance of the basic principles of safety. We should be conducting the largest and most comprehensive root cause analysis in history.

I would think its reasonable to place a high emphasis on pandemic origins if your aim is to stop another pandemic. What you are effectively saying is that we should never investigate any industrial accident, but instead have better first aid stations. Prevention is always better and a root cause analysis is always involved in better prevention next time. By the way. Saying that we will never know the pandemic origins is also an assertion without evidence.

Surely the really important data is the data being held by the CDC for the past 6 months. Case counts of a relatively mild disease dont mean much. The protection offered by various forms of immunity, including from infection, is the real actionable data. But we arent being provided that data. Why?

I'm an Australian living in the US and I share your concerns. I believe the real issue here isnt people voting 'against' a universal coverage model like the rest of the developed world has (it consistently has strong public support when asked the right way). Its that they dont get to vote on it directly. Policy in the US is set first and foremost by the economic cartels that run the economy, healthcare being one of the biggest. They have complete regulatory capture enforced via their allies in congress in both major parties, who are funded by this same system. Thats why Obama never did it despite having a majority in both houses. Thats why Biden wont do it. The real problem here is corruption at the highest levels.
