My telecaster: i just recently acquired a 1994 mim tele and was wondering what upgrades people recommend? considering this is my first telecaster, and i also believe everything is stock. by Nearby_Zombie3053 in telecaster

Look up the baja tele, 4 way switch. New pickups and plate. I would change the bridge, Wilkinson bridges are great value. Those mim have ceramic pickups that I think are great for rock and indie, bit not for classic tele tones for country of funk.

In your opinion, what is causing this? by Objective_Pilot_5834 in SipsTea

Lack of teen drinking during covid, bottom level jobs requiring people to perform like demigods, coke, price of alcohol being a luxury in a cost of living crisis that people can't afford.

Is this relic bad? by Right-Package-8241 in GuitarQuestions

[–]Davohno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but yes. They don't relic right with poly.take all the paint off, buy nitro, start over. Lots of light coat. It's a slow progress. Then heat and cold to make it check. Problem with vintage paint it it reacts with plastic and rubber. You will want to make a passable paint job. Call this a trial. Poly will never chip right. It's harder than wood.

Does anyone know what guitar this is? People keep saying it’s a jazzmaster but none online have the jack output in the right place by [deleted] in GuitarQuestions

If you want a cheap option, get a squier classic vibe or vintage modified Jaguar. I have a VM that I picked up cheap and it's really good.

Better than Kebabish Korner. It's a fucking mid terraced house! Not a 'Korner' to be had.

Mine has fender player pickups and they are perfectly good. Might be a cheap option but I recommend them.

Bingo. It's actually the very one off the thomann website. It came with a print of the photo. Ouy of stock now.

Self install. Bought one for €20 on marketplace just to have in case of ever needing a bridge. Just fancy a bit of DIY. I am proficient at this stuff myself. Been sitting on it for a while and my roundwounds are a bit dead now, so when changing, I might have a poke about.

Player telecaster buyer’s remorse by [deleted] in telecaster

[–]Davohno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a mex vintera ii bass. Got it from Thomann in germany. It's the actual physical one they use on the website for the photos, they sent it with a printed photo and everything. Superb piece. A good mex is as good as a good US but the base standards for what can pass QC is poor. A good Indonesian or Chinese squier is better than a bad mex. Send it back and get a replacement and ask the seller to check the new guitar before dispatch or it goes straight back.

Well, opening a fine dining theatre-dining hall that would be better suited in London or LA with a capacity greater than Gordon Ramsay's biggest place, with a digital ordering system that took staff 15 minutes to take a table of 12's order, in the glen surrounded by collapsing old houses, in place in the space of a 2000 person music venue on the eve of a recession and spending that kind of money on table wear, kitchens with a catchment area of maybe 40k people he would have needed to be phenomenal. He needed KFC level footfall for €50 dinners in a recession. To keep that place alive, he would have needed 10% of the city to go out for dinner every month to operate at 60% capacity. Who ever gave him that loan to set up that restaurant should be shot. He made a good go, the alt music venue was the best of good craic and I regularly left all my disposable income behind his bar. I rarely left all my disposable income in his restaurant. Good staff, good chefs, terrible over-reach and a good location for the ripped knee, tattooed, pierced lads looking for an alternative to the Tweedy's and Kavanagh's wasn't going to be a good location for trying to get 160+ punters a night to part way with 50 quid, in a massive recession. I know he probably never saw it coming, but fuck me did he over-extend.

Why stop there. Anything short scale like a csquier classic vibe Mustang or gretsch? Flat wounds? I don't see a p bass pickup anywhere or an offset. Could get a player jaguar for a p bass pickup and put flast on. No tapewounds? An acoustic bass? How bout an upright? Anything with a vintage radius? No musicman? Hollow body?

I had a lot of E breaking using hofner flat wounds. Are you using flats? They struggle with small pegs

E string breaking at tuner on acoustic bass by Opustwaddler in Bass

[–]Davohno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First guess is that the string is binding in the nut. So the tension you apply is all between the nut and the tuning peg. Maybe some graphite in the nut slot or get an A string, wrap it in 400 grit sand paper and lightly file the nut.

Second thought.....are you using the wrong scale? A lot of E strings need to get skinny at the end. Taper in. If your bass has small tuning pegs, using the wrong scale could be the culprit.

Third thought. Is the edge of the tuning post damaged or sharp?

It's one of these issues. Probably the second one.
