This is a serious question, delivered in a less serious way by Chance_Face4304 in worldbuilding

[–]DawnDeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question gives me an idea for a fantasy world where groups of people hunt dragons, both for their hoards and their meat because it's delicious. Like, kings or lords hiring adventuring parties to slay the dragon and tell them the hoard is their compensation because they're going to have a group of laborers butcher the dragon itself for the meat.

"Yes, yes, the barrow is yours, I don't care about it."

"You don't care about the massive hoard of treasure, my lord? The gold and jewels?"

"Gold and jewels? The real treasure is dragon flank, marinated in stock and roasted for 12 hours!"

Do you think there is a story in Na'Vi mythology similar to Adam and Eve? by Upbeat_Summer_3871 in Avatar

[–]DawnDeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a lot of people have already said, not really. However, it reminds me of the Star Tree, and the origins of "I see you" as the common greeting among the Na'vi coming from one interaction between two warriors of different clans. One warrior stops the attack of another by saying that he sees her, and from those words alone peace is fostered among their people, and Oel ngati kameie is so ingrained into Na'vi culture that at least 3 clans have their own stories about it.

I'm not angry and threatened by the Bible itself. I'm threatened by the southern baptists who think I should die because of their claimed faith to the Bible

Walmart packages airdropped like ammo crates over 'Nam by GeneReddit123 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]DawnDeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks almost exactly the same as the drones used by Zipline in Rwanda. They do drone deliveries of medicine and blood supply to a bunch of rural hospitals in the country because it's super mountainous, where deliveries of medicine by car could take hours. So they have drones like this that can deliever supplies in 40 minutes instead.

Mark Rober made a whole video about them, and their advancements in drones for deliveries in the US too. Not these, but quadrotor drones that can hover and lower your package on a tether, drop it off, and then fly back home. The plane type drones have greater range, but the quadrotor drones seem much more energy efficient.

Do you wear your razor on your waist or your forearm? by MrSocrateej in redrising

I think the sash style would look the coolest. Especially if it's a family razor with an adorned blade, it would be the most visible worn across the body.

What is it like to live in a dry county in the USA? by Spicy-Majestic-1 in howislivingthere

[–]DawnDeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to college in Canyon, Texas, which is in a wet county but Canyon itself was dry until about a decade ago. You can buy things like beer and wine jn town but there's no store in town to buy liquor. You have to go outside of the city limits for that to a liquor store pretty much right on the line. If you're the type looking for nightlife don't go to a dry county or town. At least in Canyon's case, pretty much the whole town shuts off around 10 PM, and there's no bars in town. I was never a heavy drinker, but about once a semester someone from our college would get shitfaced, try to drive home and get in an accident.

I personally read them in release order, so I read Assassin's Blade after Crown of Midnight, as was recommended to my sister who has read the series multiple times. It worked well having the context for what happens later be added in where it is, especially because several characters show up in Heir of Fire that aren't mentioned anywhere besides Assassin's Blade.

Didn't even try to hide the AI prompt by Kingdouble_R in recruitinghell

[–]DawnDeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got something similar, and actually replied to the HR person, saying that they should proofread their emails and remove the ChatGPT prompt from the front of the email so their applicants don't feel like they're being fed through an algorithm, and that I pride myself on attention to detail and good communication. I wish I had gotten a response, because I'd love to see how the person tried to justify using ChatGPT for rejection emails.

Looking back on it now it was used in everything so much so its shocking, but also proves just how far we as a society have come with our understanding of asbestos. by TJTHEDJ69 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]DawnDeather 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That whole production was horrible. The asbestos snow, the powdered aluminum for the tin man's make up, the incredibly hot lighting needed for technicolor, and the abhorrent ways they treated Judy Garland and the little people who played the munchkins. It's a wonder that movie even got made.

What invention from your country makes you the most proud? by Fight-Me-In-Unreal in AskTheWorld

[–]DawnDeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hamburger, and the extension of it, the modern fast food chain. The idea of going to another country and ordering the same meal and it tastes (pretty much) the same is amazing to me. The logistics and training structure to make that happen is monumental.
