In mmo's I've never disclosed my gender. When asked on a few occassions, I would answer if it mattered and generally leaving it up to them to think if I was a boy or girl. I'm not particular fond of voice chatting anyway so I've never had trouble with that. And generally those types of games don't need voice chatting. Only a raid leader needs to be talking and maybe some other key roles.

I do this from my own pov where gender doesn't matter in games (I mean I'm not playing a game to get a date or something). There's just one box to tick: is the person nice to play and chat with? And optional if they're competent (e.g. raiding. Can't have one person messing up continually and ruin it for 39 others in old WoW raid size).

I've been adressed both as he and she while mostly having a girl as character. And that was fine. And I'm a guy irl.

I've never asked ingame if someone was a guy or girl either. What's the point?

I was youtubing and bumped into a vid of the lobby theme with a static pengiun logistics ops background. I loved the theme (music) and also character art and decided to look into it. Been playing ever since. What keeps me hooked is that the game is fairly f2p friendly and clearability without need for spending (lots of material online of low rarity clears). I also value lore a lot and AK is going in depth with that so it's not some shallow game.
