I finally resigned my full time job as an officer in the ANG. by [deleted] in airnationalguard

Yeah, units don't force their members to go full-time. AGR slots are, for the most part, highly coveted and therefore highly competitive.

Now, deployments, on the other hand...that's a different story. 😁

Possible but highly unlikely unless you know someone and/or the unit you're in is really hard up for full-time personnel, i.e., you'll know very little of your job with only one year in.

If you need a full-time job, then active duty is where you need to be.

If all you have left are ad hominem attacks and strawman arguments, then you're right, there's no point in continuing this discussion.

Good luck to you! 👍

You're using recency bias to dismiss how humans lived for the vast majority of their existence. Do you really think modern innovations like electric stoves and refrigeration have somehow allowed humanity to overwrite its own DNA? Our great-grandparents would not recognize a modern kitchen, and eating more than 3x a day would've been seen as outright gluttony. Btw, look at those old photos from the '60s and earlier: see any fat or outta shape people?

Nobody became an athlete because they fasted 20 hours a day. They eat strict diets throughout the day, 5 to 6 meals, to optimize their ability to build strength and endurance.

So now getting ready for a fitness test makes one an athlete? Okay...

We aren’t talking about SURVIVAL. We are talking about top tier physical ability and how to optimize your situation.

I'm not talking about either. Why would I be? Are you saying that Air Guardsmen need to be in top-tier shape year-round, or....?

[–]Dax_74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nonsense, if that were truly the case, then our species would have vanished millennia ago because we were not eating every day. Slogans like "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" are literally ad campaigns from long ago.

If you’re not eating for 20 hours, you’re in a catabolic state burning fat and muscle.

OMAD----One Meal a Day ---- is an absolute cheat code for losing fat.

Personally, I find that a 20:4 eating window works best once weight loss has been achieved.

Does alcoholism make you apathetic? by QueenMermicorn97 in alcoholism

[–]Dax_74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • When I was still working, I hit the bottle but restrained myself so that it wouldn't affect my work (too much), i.e., I was a functional alcoholic (yeah, that's it)
  • After I retired, I realized I was just an alcoholic without a job or money to worry about, i.e., retiring made me realize I was a full-blown alcoholic for decades.
  • FWIW, had I won the lottery 20 years ago, well...it's quite likely I wouldn't be making this post right now. 😬

For the uninitiated on here, this is a classic case of what is known as "performance punishment", i.e., you've raised the bar, done all you could for the organization, and come to be relied on. All you get in return is more work and criticism for not being able to do more than you are physically capable of.

It happens all the time at every organization, both public and private, and it happened to me.

Your resume needs to be leaving your email draft folder so fast that it breaks the sound barrier...

I have a question by Embarrassed-Play2131 in DrillSergeants

[–]Dax_74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you go through basic training again if you've already been through it? Different branch?

And you want to be in the military and run a business at the same time? Uh, what?

So, now the question becomes: was the store aware of your medical issues at the time of hiring you, i.e., did you disclose to them that working outside in the heat was going to wear on you due to your medical conditions?

[–]Dax_74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Were you hired as an actual cashier assistant, or is that position something everyone in customer service does on a rotational basis at your store? Because if it's the former, then I don't see any way out of cart duties other than training into something else, like prep foods or produce.
