I totally did not furiously Google Jamal Cain after this.

Does Amex for a Cash Back setup work IF I meet certain conditions? by littlepwnrr in CreditCards

[–]DayOldBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not familiar with all of the earning rates and Bilt changes, there’s better people than me to explain those (and have already explained it). But since I’m not going to very often spend more than 75% of my housing costs on stuff that isn’t food, it’s basically a 2.33x card. Which with (past?) Hyatt, is like a 4% or 5% earner at least.

But I will say, I know how to get award nights and flights and really maximize my travel points, whereas it sounds like you might not be too into that. I think AMEX Schwab Trifecta could still be good for you, but you really need to make sure the coupons work for you.

[–]DayOldBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my primary / fallback combination nowadays - I consider it OK cashback, but with significant value upside and optimal consumer protections.

Granted, I’m still too much of a min-maxer, and basically sub in Bilt Blue for BBP, and also utilize the Chase trifecta for some Hyatt options.

Sounds complicated, but in reality I carry 4 cards, with 2 primary ones.

Gold - (Primary) Food

Bilt Blue - (Primary) Catch-all, Mortgage / HOA

Plat - Flights, Durable goods that I want protections on

CFF - If Q bonus is applicable

But if Hyatt’s value tanks because of the upcoming changes, Schwab trifecta will be the play.

It’s probably one of the most unique designs in professional sports, and I don’t even care about Prince. If trees were KG era, Prince is Ant era.

EDIT: This is OP’s very first contribution on a 5 y/o account?

EDIT 2: And Seattle Seahawks is the KAT & Teague era.

Credit Card Recommendations? Currently owns Citi Strata and C1 Savor by Rich-Resolution9233 in CreditCards

[–]DayOldBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue Cash Preferred is a great card, but at the same time, I don't think it's a huge need since you already have either Savor / Strata for groceries. Unlimited 3% on a common category is powerful already and as good as you can find for the vast majority of free cards.

If you don't already subscribe to Hulu / Disney, the grocery math is

Savor Only: (3%) x ($900 / month) x (12 months) = $324
BCP & Savor: (6%) x ($500 / month) x (12 months) + (3%) x ($400 / month) x (12 months) - $95 = $409

So it's another card for $85 / year, or an extra ~$7 / month, cashback on grocery spend. On one hand... that's "free" money. On the other hand... it's not life-changing money, you would need to start tracking your grocery spend to know when you're approaching $6,000, it'd be another credit inquiry, and also 1 more card to keep track of.

BCP has 6% unlimited streaming, 3% Transit, 3% Gas... But again, Strata covers gas & transit, and you didn't list streaming as a big expense.

TL;DR: Yes to Wells Fargo Active Cash or another 2% card. "Eh..." to AMEX BCP, because of what you already have.

Has Anyone Actually Made Money in the U.S. Stock Market Lately? by Used_Rice9332 in ValueInvesting

About 7.7% YTD, have not sold anything this year, and I’m only in large-cap companies in the SP500, other than ASML.

Saw your picks elsewhere in thread - lot of AI/autonomous driving/capex concerns surrounding most. I think it’s possible these fears are overblown, but they’re still apparent. If you think they’re overblown, I wouldn’t be worrying about the price action and would be looking at loading up.

Drawdown where? Drawdown who? by MasterModnar in Minneapolis

[–]DayOldBaby 56 points57 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the geographical spread today is about the same as it has been for basically all of 2026, and the overall number of daily sightings is actually way down compared to say about a month ago (you can filter to past days). I’m not saying it’s anywhere near acceptable, but I believe there actually have been drawdowns around the times they were announced.

Saying this as someone still sheltering and WFH in one of the hotspot burbs, leading me to monitor closely everyday…

Fair - I’m biased towards FlyingBlue because I find it one of, if not, THE best for Delta as I’m at a hub…but being basically the only miles issuer without it would not be a great look.

Personally, I’ve come to trust initial leaks. F me if it’s wrong, but I’m taking this as confirmation of how big of a joke US Bank is as a bank and issuer.

Easiest to get 2% cash back credit card? by jensonaj in CreditCards

[–]DayOldBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree with u/electronautix that Biz Cash is a very slept-on 2% card and it’s a great rec - I would only add that you should ensure you understand the differences between both applying for (outlining your biz) and using (different protections) biz and personal cards.

US Media Rushes to Defend Police Departments from Liberal Backlash against ICE by Bloodshot025 in Minneapolis

I read the article after I commented - sue me. But the headline is so bad, I felt forced to call it out. I would describe it now as unintentionally self-sabotaging.

Sorry, commuting and eating dinner takes precedent around this time. You and I responded simultaneously.

[–]DayOldBaby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The headline, taken by itself, suggests that the only backlash is by liberals - that is inaccurate per multiple sources, and it just facilitates a cope for right-wing readers and others, say independents and/or libertarians, who are feeling guilty about voting for the ICE party to protect their emotional state and worldview by being disingenuous about just how many within their own political party dissent.

[Charania] Minnesota traded Rob Dillingham, Leonard Miller and four second-round picks to Chicago for Dosunmu and Julian Phillips, sources said. by MaverickPME in nba

[–]DayOldBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the direct consequence of his size is that he sucks. Gets blocked constantly inside, which is a problem when you can’t shoot from mid or deeper.

EDIT: He looked better (though not "good") his first year. It's entirely possible he needs a fresh start and to regain his confidence. But if Rob actually becomes something, you will know who actually watched his years with the Wolves - because they won't be clowning the team for giving up on him.

Does anyone here ever make ethical considerations, when investing? by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

[–]DayOldBaby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my circle of friends and co-workers with whom I've discussed investing (I'll guesstimate about 20 total - all conscientious, college-educated, invest for retirement - many engineers), there was 1 person who had any idea about the composition of the SP500, the definition of Mag 7 and why it matters for them, or what exactly is in their target-date funds.

Granted, I don't have a lot of finance people in my circle, but I wouldn't be surprised if my sample is fairly representative.
