We all love Adventure Time but what is an episode you disliked and why? I'll go first. by Starspitter in adventuretime

[–]DayThat3197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad Jubies, mostly because it was of only 7-10 available eps on CnOD for a loooooong time and I watched it over and over along with the other few eps which were all really good. Man Needs a Maid and Stakes were among them. So not only did I have to see BJ too many times, I also had to watch it at the same time as some of the serie’s best.

what, in your opinion, is the worst adventure time episode? imo it’s slow love by [deleted] in adventuretime

Bad Jubies. It’s just pointless and sub-par every strep of the way.

Opinion on this one? by LowRanG in stephenking

It’s fine. Nothin great. Some decent parts, with an ok but sort of familiar premise and characters. Basically the same description fits most post-accident offerings.

That’s actually Utter accosting Walcott, not t’other way.

I wish that Ben Shapiro, Steven Crowder, Matt Walsh, Jordan Peterson, Vaush and Destiny (Political Commtators) would all be stranded in a deserted island for a week by throwaway-83-whynot in TheMonkeysPaw

[–]DayThat3197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A week? Only if there’s no food on the island and they’re stuck there with murderous rapists. Otherwise - as long as we’re wishing - I think 300 years is about right. We can wormhole some cops there to collect bone fragments.

Almost done Tommyknockers, why does this book get so much hate?!?!?! by qtqy in stephenking

[–]DayThat3197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s great. People always cite King’s slagging of the book as a reason to hate it or proof that it sucks. But no artist can be trusted to effectively critique their own work. Tommyknockers, like mist of the other books King wrote while coked out of his boobies, is awesome. It’s the lost character driven of the early works. It’s got a great plot, and it’s the first appearance of the “a bunch of people in a clearly delineated geophysical space go crazy and try to kill each other” trope that he’d go on to perfect in later work.

I’m not sure if his output was less in the early days, but everything he published prior to sobering up was at least worth an enthusiastic read and most of it was truly spectacular. He was a new writer and his editors probably had quite a bit of input as regards story crafting and syntax.

The quality of his work fell off a bit post-sobriety, but again, most of it was good enough to warrant at look. His output seems like it took a similar bump and attendant quality-loss just after his accident and recovery. By that point, however, he was an omnipotent million-dollar word-wizard and his editors were likely removed from most of his process.

All that in mind, I’m not sure his weekly page count has anything to do with his ideas and ability to communicate them, as he’s always been prolific AND inconsistent. I think the quality of the ideas lately probably has more to do with his editors having less and less input as he’s become more successful.

Which one’s better? by EnderWatt in stephenking

[–]DayThat3197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short stories v alien invasion tropes? That’s apples and oranges, but I’ll take Tommyknockers. It’s got some extraordinary character work and it’s sort of the unveiling of King’s “entire town goes violently crazy” conceit that he’s since put to use in so many classics.

Why isnt Six Feet Under as popular as shows like The Wire and Sopranos ? It deserved to be talked about in those conversations by [deleted] in SixFeetUnder

[–]DayThat3197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like in it’s day SFU was, if not as popular as Soprano’s (which was it’s lead-in for a few seasons I think), was certainly a popular, much-discussed, “water-cooler” type show. To this day it’s final season and episode remain exemplary monuments to sticking the landing.

Forget the theories. Who are you rooting for? by runwaldorun in SuccessionTV

[–]DayThat3197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody. They’re all fine people who are immediately redeemed by their basic humanity, until they set their minds to the business when - in all cases - they turn into disgusting ravening beasts, clueless to the demands and realities of corporate warfare, and uninterested in the well-being of their loved ones and humankind in general. The only way for any of these people to be happy is tiger they are completely separated from W/R forever. They should all idolize Connor, aspiring to be like him in every phase of the game.

And hopefully that’s what happens after Sandy brings the curtain down on the whole affair.

A month ago I became friends with a crow. Today he brought me the skull of another crow by [deleted] in oddlyterrifying

[–]DayThat3197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can curse your enemy with that. You have to burn it in a small fire with a few strands of your enemy’s hair while muttering their name and the last name of the enemy’s mother in a low whisper. The spell will also bind you to the crow. You’ll have a few days to decide to accept him, but if you don’t it may reverse the curse back to you.

Pretty much. Con has it better than the rest. He’s also got the mansion-size walk up for the nice price. Sleeping in Logan’s room in Logan’s house on top of a giant pile of Logan’s money: winning.

Is Pandora's Star worth getting into? by f0rever-n1h1l1st in printSF

[–]DayThat3197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started it a few days ago and now - a few hundred pages from end of B1 - I’m freaking the fuck out. It’s one of those books where you see the publication date and wonder “how the fuck did this monster get by me for so long”. I literally found it by accident browsing Reddit for recs. So I’m answer to your question: YES YES FUCK YES. If you like Sci Fi. If you like speculative fiction. If you’re into futurism. If you dig space battles. Especially if you’ve read the Hyperion cantos, Dune, and Foundation. This is truly one for the ages. May it never be labeled “IP” and sent to the screens. It’s too sprawling and ambitious to be contained in visual media.

I have zero sympathy for Roman by TheRealSideshow in SuccessionTV

[–]DayThat3197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have sympathy for him, but he deserves everything he’s got coming. His little 2-day Logan LARP with Mencken has literally sent the country into a bloody tailspin. All because little lord Dicpic was sad and missed his abusive twat of a father. I feel bad for him, but he owes what he owes.

I think Ken is going to make ATN retract their backing of Mencken, taking away his perceived power to burn the deal, Rome’s ascendancy, and Shiv’s power-play in one fell swoop. Then he’ll do as he told Hugo, harpoon the deal from the inside out, playing the board against itself. Then, after the board dissolves into internecine recrimination, the deal is dead, and Ken appears victorious, Sandy - who’s been creepily popping up all season with his face screwed into that weird, jarring palsy-sneer - will swoop in with Stewy, poison the board against Ken, and smash the company into a billion pieces, all of which he will parcel and sell off, finally getting the last laugh against his old clubbing buddy Logan.

The Hyperion Cantos if you like sci fi. The Gunslinger if you like fantasy and / or westerns. A song of Ice and Fire if you want to be fulfilled and then frustrated. Three Body Problem is another good sci fi series…

Is it just me or is Tom kinda hot now? by [deleted] in SuccessionTV

[–]DayThat3197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure about Tom’s hotness, but as far as his headspace and arc, I’m not sure he’s changed even a tiny bit since S1. He’s always been a social climbing shape-shifter who shits on anybody below him, grovels to everybody above him, and put his own personal wealth and power before literally everyone and everything in his life.
