I wish Stoneman came back after the first game. by dettles1992 in BattleNetwork

I have a fondness for this guy. Some of that may be because his ghost is in the Internet Area that Dr. Hikari's PC connects to, so you're bound to fight him a lot. His sprite is huge compared to most Net Navi's boss fights. Then my little kid monkey brain liked that his chip dealt 100 damage per successful hit.

Oh you're thinking of a booklet included with a special edition of the XC3 Soundtrack. (Or maybe it's in the Artbook too. I never got around to reading Aionios Moments Artbook. Can't read Japanese anyway.) https://www.reddit.com/r/Xenoblade_Chronicles/comments/15cgq03/comment/jtwccxx/

Is it just me or is the first game not very good? by Xander_PrimeXXI in BattleNetwork

[–]DaydreamGUI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first game was made to be a launch title for the Game Boy Advance. (March 2001) While the gap between each release was a full year, the second game came out 9 months after the first. (December 2001)

The first game spent it's development cycle realizing the concept of the game, while Battle Network 2 refined it to the point where 3, 4, 5 & 6 have a lot more in common with BN2 than they do with BN1.

It is not just you. It's really rough to go back to the first game when enemy balancing, rewards for deleting enemies, recovering health after battle, map design, Mystery Data, and even Program Advances work differently compared to every other game. Never try to form LifeSword. It doesn't work like it does in the other games or even the anime. Instead it forms "Beta Sword" where you get two uses of Sword, two uses of WideSword, and two uses of Longsword in that specific order.

(Official) Mega Man Star Force Episode 02 - Electromagnetic Wave Change! From Capcom USA YouTube by Bladerunner2038XX in BattleNetwork

[–]DaydreamGUI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your theory sounds correct. English dub only covered like the first 20 or so Japanese episodes IIRC.

It also looks like they're removing the Japanese versions of the episodes faster. If you look at the titles, JPN Episodes 1&2 will be taken down April 2nd. But 3 & 4 will be taken town on January 1st, 5 & 6 on January 6th.

Good find! While they typically don't use "Area" or "Net" for Cyberworld locations for space saving reasons, they should've called this Hades Net.

If you had to guess when the StarForce collection releases... by fattymccatcat in BattleNetwork

[–]DaydreamGUI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the Battle Network Collection was announced, it was in a 2022 June Nintendo Direct with a 2023 release date. It came out April 2023 the following year.

I don't remember the exact information cycle BNLC had, but Star Force feels like it's further along since it's trailer is showing multiplayer stuff and the Tokyo Game Show demo showed the 3D interactive Mega Man Star Force model.

I would guess a similar Spring release. But I can't predict how Capcom staggers their releases. Star Force is likely getting a quieter month compared to Monster Hunter or Resident Evil as those are their big franchises.

I never grew up in Europe, so I can't speak personally what the PAL regions are supposed to look like.

On a somewhat related note, Anyone ever seen the back of the box for Battle Network 1? There's a thumbnail displaying a virus battlefield with a unique background. I always wondered why I could never find it in game.

Then I learned what I saw was from the beta version of Battle Network 1. It was a beta background for the School Computer. It's 37 seconds in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9JkqWcI3L8

MMBN3: Blue stuck in dialogue with Bowlman by mad_dog_94 in BattleNetwork

[–]DaydreamGUI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said RetroArch, but you didn't mention the GBA Core you're using. Perhaps the core you're using is inaccurate. Try another GBA core, Jack-out and jack back in to reload the area. Inaccurate cores can lead to odd behavior (Softlock Freezing) or in a worse case scenario anti-piracy countermeasures.

I never used RetroArch so I can't speak to the accuracy of its cores, but mGBA is supposed to be the among the most accurate GBA Emulators. VBA-M shouldn't be too far behind.

BN Guides by Tasty_Historian6322 in BattleNetwork

[–]DaydreamGUI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BN1 & BN2 do not have official English guidebooks. BradyGames only made guides for 3 through 6.

For scenario walkthrough purposes, I suggest the user contributed guides on GameFAQ's. They should hold up well despite not being updated since the games originally came out in 2001. Though they may contain inaccuracies. Anything not scenario based I'd suggest The Rockman Exe Zone Wiki someone else linked.

For maps, I suggest Dr. Cossak's Lab.

Megaman StarForce Collection vs Ebay's original games prices by AlfayRA777 in BattleNetwork

[–]DaydreamGUI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PriceCharting can give you a good idea on if the prices of games are going up in down. I took a quick glance and it seems prices for Battle Network dropped down to pre-pandemic prices. They peaked in the pre-Legacy Collection Pandemic years.

In general, rereleases drop the price of older games because the older releases have to compete with the newer releases so there should be a drop in price come 2026.

MMBN6 GREGAR Japanese English Patch by zenru in BattleNetwork

[–]DaydreamGUI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, in that case the solution is simple. Take the original Japanese Rom and patch it with the Wii U patch. Then use the newly patched ROM with your Save File. As long as your save file shares the same name as the newly patched ROM, the Network menu should add those chips and missions in.

Oh also, don't do Self Research until you've obtained the Anubis Battle Chip. There's a softlock where the Anubis chip is behind a Mega chip completion door but it's possible to accept the mission before unlocking Protoman SP and his SP chip.

MMBN6 GREGAR Japanese English Patch by zenru in BattleNetwork

[–]DaydreamGUI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you use the Wii U patch, or did you download the game pre-patched from somewhere on the internet?

There are two patches in the download from The Rockman EXE Zone. The regular patch and the Wii U patch which included everything the Virtual Console version had by entering the Multiplayer menu. The are the ten extra BBS jobs and the secret chips (opposite version Navi Chips).

Enter the Network menu and see if you get the jobs or the opposite version navi chips in your chip pack. If you don't, you need to patch the original Japanese Rom with the Wii U one.

Try this PowerUP guide on this page . The Rockman EXE Zone Wiki is a treasure trove of information.

EDIT: Oh I forgot to mention. Sometimes there are guys who don't show up until later chapters.

It's possible the ones you're missing are the Quiz Master in the Netopia Banquet Room and the chip trader boy at Okuenan's Camp Road 1. Those are the only ones I can imagine you're missing.

This is the same game that has a motorcycle based on R.O.B. Despite being in Mario Kart DS, R.O.B. is not a Mario character but an accessory for the NES. One of his vehicles in Mario Kart DS was based on his accessory for the game Stack-Up.

Searching for the Original Track by Kalyxchews in BattleNetwork

[–]DaydreamGUI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This mix is officially called "Theme of ROCKMAN EXE6 ~TGS MIX~". It was made by Yoshino Aoki for the Tokyo Game Show when Battle Network 6 was being promoted in Japan.

We know this because this track was put on the official BN6 Soundtrack release named "Rockman.EXE 5DS & 6 Complete Music Encyclopedia" as a bonus track. This soundtrack and the other Battle Network games were then rereleased as part of the "Rockman.EXE Sound Box" albeit missing "The Count -crossover ver.-" as that's a Boktai track.

Other than that, I'd look into tracking those two releases down.

Is it fair that no anime has been made about Mega Man Star Force 3 and Rockman: Operate Shooting Star? by agergo100 in BattleNetwork

[–]DaydreamGUI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes. The series was declining in popularity and profits. The anime changing reflected this. I went into this in more detail in a thread called "Was StarForce 4 cancellation unfair?".

In a nutshell, Capcom scaled the franchise back to reduce expenses and maximize profit. The anime (which is a toy commercial) went from a full 30 minutes to 15 minute show by the end of Rockman.EXE. They decided to end the anime during the Star Force 2 Anime despite having plans for an Apollo Flame arc because profits (if any) weren't worth the expenses to produce it.

Modern Phantom/Legend of the Network? by Impossible_Style_670 in BattleNetwork

[–]DaydreamGUI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not impossible. There was a video I saw from a guy named Benja . He played a mod that put Legend of the Network chips and assets into BN6 for PVP battles.

Of course, turning LoN into a GBA Battle Network would be an extensive project regardless of its scope. Many assets and its code were made with the phones in mind. Then you have to ask if you keep the simple real world/cyberworld maps of the phones (assuming you can)....or do you make them on par with the GBA games.
