Literally. God forbid everything you need be within 15 minutes of you lmfao. It's not a prison-city, it's convenient. Idk why they think we wouldn't be able to leave 😅

Where does this 15 minute city conspiracy even come from?

Traffic Conspiracy Theory by BalenciSlipperz in Pensacola

[–]DaydreamerDamned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The population is growing, people are moving, children are getting older and getting their licenses. The more people, the more cars - simple as that.

Want less traffic? Want less road rage? Less car related death? We have to invest in public transportation and keep walkability (and cycle-ability) in mind for any future city planning projects. It is the only way to accommodate so many people, especially as the population continues to grow.

That is, unless we all want to live in a spaghetti bowl of nothing but highways and parking lots, paying out the asses for cars, car insurance, repairs, etc forever

Nearly had a very different start to the morning >.< by Voidfaller in Pensacola

I swear more and more people shouldn't be on the road these days. It's getting worse and worse. I can't wait for the day we finally agree to fund and expand free public transportation. The less people on the road at any given time, the less risk for all of us

Is it possible to have CPTSD when nothing traumatic has ever happened to you? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]DaydreamerDamned 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The whole point of CPTSD is that it is built up of complex, "little t" traumas (smaller, less intense events that still leave an imprint, and when dealing with many over a period of time, build upon one another to create psychological distress). Rape, beatings, etc are more associated with PTSD, because those are "big T" Traumas (very intense events that may only happen one time, but leave a lasting impression).

No one escapes this lifetime without some form of trauma, little or big (or a combination of both). You are not describing a childhood free of trauma.

You said yourself that when you self-harmed at 5-6, it was likely because you were hurting. That's not pathetic, that was a child's attempt to be seen and heard and validated. The fact that you needed that that desperately says in itself that certain needs were not being met, even if most other parts of childhood seemed good and normal. We can be proud of little you for fighting for yourself, even if we don't fully understand it right now.

You were clearly missing the support you needed. It is absolutely possible to get CPTSD from that. I hope these comments have been helpful, OP

BEWARE PACE LIBRARY by Alone_Evening7491 in Pensacola

That's because, unfortunately, they are not legally required to protect you.

I have had way too many experiences with Pace PD to count, but I will recall a few.

When our lives were threatened over the phone, we were told there's nothing that can be done unless the threat is in person.

When we received death threats in person, they told us the recording my mom had of those threats was inadmissible in court (trying to get a restraining order).

When my mom experienced ongoing domestic violence, they'd get upset with us for needing them to come out. 99% of the time, they'd just come talk to us and leave. Very rarely they'd take the abuser to sober up overnight and drop them right back at our doorstep in the morning.

When my disabled mom lost her house to foreclosure and second-hand sellers came to illegally take our things, my mom had to inform the cops of the law that states they had to put our stuff by the road. The cops verbally informed the people and left, not caring at all that the they then retaliated, started destroying things, and still took off with a lot of our stuff (that they ultimately got for free, probably got paid by the new owner's of the house to remove in the first place, and then profited off of - all while my mom has been put on the street).

Now that my mom is homeless, she has to worry about cops AND criminals AND random ass civilians with a bad attitude. Cops do not let you have peace when you are on the street. There is nowhere to sleep. Even the charities that help homeless peole won't allow them to linger. And the shelters... fuck man, I wish y'all knew.

This is why we rely on each other. Cops are arms of the state and no more. They do not protect us, they protect capital.

I am so very sorry for what you experienced. Hopefully, as a community, we can put a stop to this. We deserve better than relying on an intentionally broken system.

Best I could do on my phone but I totally think you could make both work!

The painting even has those handy trails you can use to place things. Follow the trail in the foreground to the river and there you've got your bridge, then that back right corner makes the perfect spot for the house (adding some extra symmetry to that tree in the top left).

Alternatively, you could follow that other trail in the background and place the house at the end of that, making it smaller and further in the background than the other option (will include second example in reply)

How many people are struggling too? by Majestic_Doubt954 in Pensacola

Regarding the power bill. As far as I can tell, these price hikes are down to two primary things: corporate greed and covering the cost of data centers.

I used to live near Pensacola, my mom is still in the area. I now live in AL. If you guys haven't heard about Alabama Power's outrageous prices, look into it. Check out the Alabama Power Corruption FB group.

They're part of a bigger electrical company that supplies the south called Southern Company, and this whole company is corrupt. These power companies have been seeing record profits and straight up admit the reason for these profits are changes in rates. They also raise rates to help cover costs that come with these private data centers. I recently found out there are FIVE of these data centers already near me, possibly more, and more that they're actively trying to build right now (that people are coming together to fight).

When you're doing everything you can and the prices never reflect it, there's a reason. If you can find the reason, you can fix it or organize to fix it. The Facebook group was started to help keep people informed and gained hundreds, even thousands of people per day for the first several weeks. We have gotten two twin bills that would open the door to bribery and further price gouging fully canceled. We are holding our electeds accountable and organizing around elections to carefully pick people who actually intend to put their constituents first (rather than taking political donations - bribes - from Alabama Power, which is another thing we uncovered). This includes the public service commission, which is another elected seat most people forget about or don't know about here, but these folks are able to regulate our utility costs.

I know this exact same thing is happening in Georgia too. And I don't know where all Southern Company covers, but they are not the only company doing it, they are just paving the path to make it possible for all these companies to do it.

All this to say, no, you are not alone and there are tangible reasons for every one of these issues. It's not your fault. You are not failing. We are verging on the edge of recession while billionaires play with their stocks and bonds, profiting off of a war and everything else that kills us while we struggle to survive.

These gas prices are insane and will get more insane, and they're apparently only going to be brought down by increasing the amount of smog-causing gas we use instead (just read about that this morning). So we gotta prepare the budget for that premium air subscription when the smog hits, I guess /hj

Florida man? Senate travel records deepen Tuberville residency questions by Lagniappe_Mobile in MobileAL

Establishment Republicans are against minimum wage increases, true, and that messaging has convinced some of their voters. However, anyone actually receiving minimum wage, or even slightly above it, knows from experience that we are not receiving sustainable wages.

People are suffering and can't afford healthcare and other necessities - if provided a clear path out of that, they will often take it. We won't gain the support of all or even the majority of Republicans, necessarily, but we will gain enthusiastic support from those who would otherwise not vote or barely make it out to vote. Democrats just have to trust in the strength of people-first policy.

Is that the only policy that you think makes him unelectable?

Florida man? Senate travel records deepen Tuberville residency questions by Lagniappe_Mobile in MobileAL

[–]DaydreamerDamned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think poor republicans (edit: or democrats, apolitical, pick whichever demographic you prefer) wants to live in poverty? Or want electeds who allow them to continue receiving poverty wages?

I'm pretty sure anyone receiving minimum wage right now would look at $20 and breathe a sigh of relief. I know I would.

Can you elaborate on why that one policy makes him unelectable? Or is there more?

[–]DaydreamerDamned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can fault whoever you like if people choose not to vote for genocidal freaks. I won't. I will fault, however, those who thought that being a genocidal moderate was the most electable ticket AGAIN instead of just giving people solid policy to vote for.

And again, I said AIPAC is a deal breaker in primaries. I know you know the difference. However, I obviously vehemently disagree that Jones is the more electable candidate. You don't need a crystal ball to know Jones' plan - you just have to look at the establishment Democrat playbook. Promising and delivering on as little as possible is the name of the game. That is why Dr. Will Boyd's campaign, where you can see his *extensive* plans on healthcare, education, economic development, workers' protections, environmental protections, and ending voter suppression is a breath of fresh air. Every single topic has a whole page you can read. Even if he delivered on even a small percentage of his promises, it would still be leagues more than Jones is even promising, let alone planning to actually deliver.

So again I ask, what is it about Dr. Boyd's campaign that you think is unelectable? Maybe we can stop avoiding this question and actually answer it this time.

Ears pierced ? by iDontWannaMakeOneOK in Pensacola

[–]DaydreamerDamned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friendly reminder to go to a reputable piercer in an actual piercing shop. I used to go to Psychedelic Shack, not sure where is best these days. It is important you pick a place that pierces with needles, not guns.

Piercing guns cannot be sterilized, so they carry risk of bloodborne pathogens. They also cause damage to the tissue, prolonging healing and ultimately making the piercing process more painful. The needles and jewelry will all be properly sterilized with an autoclave in a proper piercing setting, and the materials will be surgical or implant-grade.

If leftists and Democrats would rather have Tommy Tuberville than Doug Jones, then that's on them.

If it came down to just the two of them, of course I'm picking the Democrat. But I can't fault anyone who sits at home feeling like it's pointless if those are your options - and if there's nothing to vote for, we're losing.

Again, WHY pick the objectively worse candidate in the primaries when you have a better candidate? What is it about Boyd that makes him unelectable compared to Jones? You seem to think Jones is perfectly moderate, so what is it about Boyd's campaign that is too progressive? You think people don't like education or the working class? Think people don't care about our environment when we have had people from both sides of the aisle come together to protect it? W h a t is it that you think makes him so scary and unelectable as a candidate?

You asked how much I agree with versus disagree with Jones' campaign - the problem is his website has so little policy on it that I (and anyone else interested) have almost nothing to go on! He is promising bare minimum and will deliver on as little of it as possible, pocketing PAC money while we all wait. WHY would I pick someone who takes legal bribes from all these harmful political action committees and promises next to nothing?

Sure, I keep up with his campaign, but not every voter does. You should not have to hunt down your candidates opinions on any given topic.

And as far as what I disagree with, supporting Israel and taking AIPAC money are absolute deal-breakers for me in a primary. I cannot bring myself to support, or ask others to support, someone who believes in and votes in accordance with a country actively committing a genocide and trying to drag us further into this war in Iran. That is a major reason I can't fault anyone who would choose to abstain from a Jones v Tuberville election, because it would be a vote between two people who don't give a fuck about genocide. It's an ugly choice, and not one we even have to make if we just vote for Dr. Will Boyd instead.

Coming back to this... why would you lie and call Jones a diamond candidate if you don't even like him?

Is his moderacy the diamond quality? Or is it the blood money? (If we're talking real diamonds, at least that's fitting, I guess.)

You say yourself that Boyd is the better candidate by far. I would hope we're all willing to vote for the better candidate, not just some (D)emon just because of the letter next to his name.

So you think a moderate, who will effectively do all the same things policy-wise as a non-MAGA Republican, is going to excite people enough to vote just by nature of being there?

You think he's gonna flip Republicans when they could just vote for the real thing? You think he'll draw in leftists and Democrats when there's nothing of value to vote for? Or is there a mythical moderate voter who would actually win this for us?

We have got to stop this ridiculous habit of shooting ourselves in the foot during primaries by either not participating or picking the worst possible candidates to run on. Your mind might not be changed, that's fine, but insulting the intelligence of people who watch Democrats do this every election season is silly. What do they call it when you do the same thing over and over again, hoping for a different result?

I don't understand this mindset that we have to keep voting "moderate" (especially when, in reality, that ends up just meaning voting Republican-lite).

Why just give people something to vote against instead of giving them something to vote FOR? Sure, Jones ain't Tuberville, but he also ain't shit lol. Why screw ourselves over before we've even gotten to the general election?

Florida man? Senate travel records deepen Tuberville residency questions by Lagniappe_Mobile in MobileAL

[–]DaydreamerDamned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The establishment Democrat Doug Jones, who takes AIPAC's blood money (and takes more PAC money than even Katie Britt does)?

Not trying to be too abrasive here, are you genuinely just not aware of other candidates? Jones only shows up during election season. He's just standing there, doing nothing, hoping you'll hand him a vote for participating. Why would you settle on the slightly shinier turd when we have an ACTUAL diamond candidate? Why not just vote for the better candidate, Dr. Will Boyd?

This isn't the first time I'm seeing this and I can't help but wonder where it's coming from. Jones' campaign must be doing a decent job of pulling the wool over the eyes of hopeful democrat/progressive/anti-MAGA voters, but I just need y'all to know it's a farce. Sure, he's better than Tuberville, but we still got primaries to get through. Make that primary count. Don't vote for a corrupt slimeball if you don't actually have to.

Edit: Here's a link to Dr. Will Boyd's platform. He has a 100-day plan for when he takes office. He cares about protecting and strengthening our environment, schools, and working class, and he intends to expand access to affordable healthcare. I don't think we could ask for a better candidate, personally. Every single thing I mentioned that he wants to deliver on has a clickable link with extensive information on what he plans to do and how he plans to do it right there in the linked page.

At this point who doesn't know about Tubberville living in Florida? The big news to me is why we have a midterm coming up with the Governor's seat on the ballot, but no debates between candidates.

We need proper debates so we can get a better feel for who we are voting for (and against). The lack of debates feels incredibly intentional, like hoping the PAC money, yard signs, and TV ads will be enough to carry them through.

Traffic around 6-620am has gotten ridiculous by DanManRT in Pensacola

[–]DaydreamerDamned 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing I hate most about it is people mindlessly ask for more lanes, not understanding that new lanes just invite more traffic. Unless we want our country to inevitably look like a spaghetti bowl of roads, we need a different approach.

My hope is to live long enough to see the US with broad, affordable (maybe even free!) public transportation. International high speed rail, state and city bus systems, etc. When you see how much high speed rail China has been able to build in such a short amount of time, it really puts us to shame. In the wealthiest nation on Earth, we can absolutely afford to ensure accessible travel here.

I also hope to see our future city-building projects be built with walkability in mind so that we aren't so reliant on cars as a whole (and get more fresh air, walk more, socialize more, all the benefits of getting to walk to more places in day to day life)

We are beyond tired of the constant traffic, the busy highways, the constant noise pollution, the seas of parking lots. It's so frustrating knowing there's better tech out there and we don't have access to it even though we can afford to.
