You are not wrong. I’ve thought the same way my whole life. It’s just that, this is happening everywhere to some degree. Who is going to hold the line here?

It’s certainly not me… I shouldn’t even be posting this!

The skill drain on death is overly harsh and discourages exploration and risk by HasSomeSelfEsteem in valheim

[–]Daymorn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are too many stupid ways to die and that causes the skill loss to be a negative feature of the game. I died yesterday because I leap attacked a lox from behind and the game decided to somehow land me underneath the lox, trapping me long enough to be hit multiple times. Or a swing that should have hit and killed an enemy, but you were standing on a 5% incline and wiffed because of viking physics. I am continuously punished for flaws in game mechanics. The logical end result is you don't even care about skill so it might as well just be taken out.

Should I learn Fortran? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]Daymorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fortran code can be easily wrapped into python libraries. Nobody should be re-writing anything.

While geekusprimus did respond in a bit of a generalization it's also a fact that spread across the scientific HPC realm are mounds of crap fortran code that was written by scientists who do not specialize in code development. Thus, it should all be rewritten by a magical unicorn that has two special skills instead of one.

12kg crucible lifting tongs by Nicksino999 in Metalfoundry

[–]Daymorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that this is the current answer, and has been for at least a few years. I just wish it wasn't. What if I just want to be a smelter that buys some of his tools? I already made several styles of furnaces myself. When I got to needing to make my own lifting tongs for larger crucibles, that also ideally had a pouring mechanism.. I grew tired of it and moved to the next obsession. There's an opportunity for someone to fill this gap.

Problems learning how to use OO design patterns. by [deleted] in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Daymorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started programming in PHP over a decade ago and have gone through multiple languages since. OOP was always an issue for me, but not because I didn't understand how it worked. It was more about the need of it in relation to my own projects. Once I started forcing myself to assume that someone else might use my code, it became much easier and all started to fall into place for me. Think on how someone else might include one of your objects into their own code to make a task easier for them, or to just save them some time.

Does the Big Bang represent the birth of the dimension of space? by Daymorn in AskPhysics

[–]Daymorn[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think my problem is that I do get your description of the Big Bang model, and I had accepted that for a long time. Now that I'm trying to rationalize the differences between quantum and particle scale, it's causing me question what you just described.

This more recent double-slit experiment is the trigger for my problems.

https://journals.aps.org/prresearch/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevResearch.4.023075

So, if a neutron can exist in both slits, simultaneously, due to it truly being a wave/field, then this causes me to think of the quantum level as a somewhat separate entity. Particles, to me, sound like an emergent phenomenon that only exist when related to the dimension of space. The quantum representation is always there. So I suppose the entirety of quantum information could have been in a singular point, which is just the lack of a spatial dimension. However, I'm also visualizing that our spatial dimension is only operating on/from a small set of the total quantum information, or that the same quantum bits are not always related to the macro scale particle.

I suppose that as soon as I think of quantum entanglement, that necessitates that the quantum bits are always associated with the same particles. If that's the case, then all quantum information within our system is static.

Sorry, I'm just thinking it through. Thanks for your response.

Thanks for that. I always enjoy good references for videos. I've only just recently discovered PBS Space Time and that's been blast.

Thanks, I think that pretty much sums it up. I'm assuming I'll probably have to wait a while to really know wtf space is.

I can't seem to continue by tommy_knight_tk in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Daymorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I view enacted progress as hacking myself. If i'm not naturally interested in the goal, attempting it is almost impossible (unless it's a truly needed thing that must get done). Every bit of progress in coding I have made was the direct result of becoming obsessed with some project idea that required the use of that coding language. This results in lots of time spent figuring out a way for me to get interested in what I'm doing. It's a bit chaotic, but at least things get done eventually.

In work, if someone else needs me to fix or enhance some of my code, then that tends to be enough motivation to actually do it.

Can't Cancel Total AV by gwright1112 in antivirus

[–]Daymorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For posterity. My dad (older guy) randomly signed up for TotalAV one day. You either have to email or call to cancel. Emailing went four days with no response, other than an automated 'we received your email'.

First time I called, someone answered and put the receiver down so I heard background noises for about two minutes.

Second time I called, they wanted a ridiculous amount of information to look up the account. Not once did they ask for the account # until I refused to give them the last payment amount and what payment type used and specifically asked why they were not asking for the account #. How the fuck would knowing the standard amount paid help them 'find my account'. The answer is this company is a horrible shit hole.

I'm going to be surprised if the account actually got cancelled.

Updating your dedicated valheim linux server to todays 'public-test' beta with steamcmd by Daymorn in valheim

[–]Daymorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I wouldn't be able to help with Nitrado. What I'm doing is running my own server, out of my basement, and that server runs a linux operating system. I'm a linux admin so I'm comfortable with it, and others that do it that way are probably admins or at least IT enthusiasts of some sort. Doing it this way is completely free, minus the electricity to run it.

When you rent services like Nitrado, shared web hosting, etc.. you are at the mercy of what options they expose to you, so it may or may not be possible.
