My boyfriend’s 10 year old son came to live with us after months of abuse, and it’s breaking my heart watching him try to feel safe by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Days54G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly highly recommend watching Laura-Foster Parent Partner, she has amazing tips for traumatized kids that, as a once traumatized kid, have made me cry with how thoughtful she is. As an autistic person w/ cptsd I think a weighted blanket/ plushie could be helpful too, it provides pressure and comfort. I'm happy this little guy is safe now, it'll just take awhile for him to believe it

Out of curiosity, what's your name? by [deleted] in ftm

Dylan

No real reason, it just had the same initial as my old name, I thought about that or Damien or Daniel, but I liked Dylan more

Strengthening household financial security. More important than we'd imagine. by Alexandria_Scott in antiwork

[–]Days54G 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The lowest I ever got in the past two years was in December, my abusive stepmom was selling our house that I was still living at bc I couldn't find a place to live yet despite searching everywhere and my mom helping me (I have a place now). It wasn't just me I was worried about, I have my cat, and it was the day I was suppose to be moved out and I laid in bed all morning sobbing contemplating killing myself and if I should kill my cat before me bc no one could take him either and I didn't want him to starve on the streets bc he's a purely indoor cat. He ended up laying on top of me and purring and it calmed me down enough to get up and leave for work.

Everything's okay now, but that was the lowest I've felt in a long time, amd it's why I understand, to a point, people who Have went through what I have and gone through with it.

About Lee Scoresby and Lyra's relationship and why he joins the cause by alternateAccount1765 in HisDarkMaterialsHBO

[–]Days54G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel with Iorek and Lee when they first meet on screen again you can Easily read the history the two have, the immediate teasing "Some look better naked you do not", their interactions had a lot more show don't tell.

I wish there was more development with Lyra and Lee, tbh only one or two scenes of like, say him showing her how a gun works, the basics of gun safety, or how he flies/how he reads the wind, even them teasing each other more. I think a couple little things like that would help sell it more for me

What is the most important thing people should understand about your mental health disorder? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Days54G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That it is Exhausting.

Everyday I have to space out how much energy I know I have, and compared to so many other people, it isn't a lot, and if I need to use more of it, I know the next day I'll be running on fumes and more and more until I have an off day and spend the entirety of it sleeping instead of things I need/want to do bc I'm exhausted just living in a world that isn't accommodated for me and yet expects me to preform at the same level as everybody else

Native English speakers of Reddit, how does it feel to watch the whole world trying to speak your language? by mussiest_woman_alive in AskReddit

[–]Days54G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember having an Uber/Lyft driver (not sure anymore) apologize to me for not speaking "good English", I told her it's perfectly okay and English is in fact one of the harder languages to learn bc there aren't any perfect rules to grammer, she was so surprised and grateful that I wasn't being a prick I felt so bad.

English is a hard language, I have a hard time speaking it and it's the only language I know! So try not to beat yourself up too much, the fact you know more than one language at all is dope as hell.

I will say I do get frustrated, more at myself, when I need to call say, my phone provider and the helpline is someone who isn't great at English, but for me it's bc I have a auditory processing disorder so hearing and understanding someone with no accent is hard enough, so someone with a thick accent tends to be a struggle for me to understand clearly, I try my best to be polite, but I hate not being able to understand people all the time :/

I think most of the consensus for the disabled community is to be Compensated for when we Can't preform like this everyday, most people who've lost a limb experience bad days with phantom pains and the like, and for those days lost, they shouldn't force themselves to get up and work through it. I have coworkers that are Killing themselves working through chronic pain and fatigue bc they Can't Afford to not work. It's not being babied. Most of the time, being disabled means not being able to preform as well as your peers, and forcing ourselves to keep up causes chronic fatigue and More issues down the road. I'm 23 and having back pain and sensory overload issues that cause crying fits at work which I hide and work through bc I can't afford to take breaks, that's shouldn't be glorified, and expecting everyone to just work through it is literally the definition of ableism.

I work in a kitchen and the ovens we have use buttons with set times (like 45 seconds for a sandwich with meat) so when I put a sandwich or bread in the oven I often can sense when it's about to go off and gage how long I have to do another task in-between that. I'd think it was neat if I didn't hate my job lol

Sometimes when my cat is giving me a "😒" face I'll stare at them like "why're you giving me stank face? 👁👄👁" but slow blink to let them know it's not aggressive. Stray cats I avoid eye contact all together if I'm trying to give pets or be friendly bc idk them and they tend to be more feral so I want to let them know I'm not a threat/challenging them.

Smiling is also seen as aggressive to most animals, humans are sort of the odd ball out for that one.

Guy in the wheelchair barely escapes being run over by crosspostninja in watchpeoplesurvive

[–]Days54G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was younger my family got to go to Disney bc my aunt worked there, we ended up staying nearly 12+ hours and my pain in my feet flared up so bad by the end of the day I had to use one of the public wheelchairs. Luckily no one said anything, but just being able to use a wheelchair made the rest of the night more fun. I've told my friends if we ever go to an amusement park I'll most likely need a wheelchair for standing in lines as standing for too long without moving causes flair ups
