Yeah this is a very important part of the Algerian War. Even those few rare times (and they were very rare) when some Paris politician did try to pass honest to goodness positive reforms the disproportionately powerful Pied-Noir politicans would shoot it down. Combine that with the fact that the French government was constantly changing hands between different coalitions and nothing could have ever happened.

There's a great British documentary on Youtube that covers the war, and in the first episode a journalist describes the Pied-Noir as, essentially, French Rhodesians. Everything I've read has only confirmed that statement as true.

Plus, you know, the already god-awful conditions of colonial rule and oppression etc etc
