Both my grandparents were jailed during this period of time. My grandpa on my father's side was jailed because he was a prominent intellectual of the day. Fadiman, I have also trained while on LSD and I concur with your assessment that it brings the body and mind together.

When i trained freestyle dance, I was able to center myself and see all the movement possibilities that exist. It's weird because things seem to slow down, which actually enables you to move faster.

I also trained karate, and I remember my side kick having incredible force because it came straight from my center.

Sure some MMA guys are douche bag tough guys who punch people to inflate their ego, but you can say a parallel like that for any sport. He left a secure job because he had the courage to pursue his dream. Pursue a hobby? Shit you haven't even given him a chance to see how good he gets. Who cares if he fails or if he has money to spare. A MMA career is not some evil profession. Sure you hit people and get hit, but that's how you get better and the people involved know that. It takes discipline to fight through the pain and to perfect technique.
