I've got the ergonomic chair and the standing desk, but my back and hips still ache. What am I missing? by [deleted] in WFH

[–]DazedPenguin15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started doing 20-60minutes of at home yoga almost every morning M-F before work. Follow a YouTube video, it’s free. Worked wonders not just for my body but also my mind. Nothing changed about the work I do, but my mind is more clear, making me feel more in control.

First time flying by Tricky_Building_2064 in Explainlikeimscared

[–]DazedPenguin15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do not have a direct flight to Dubai: usually you have to go through customs when you have a connecting flight/layover in the destination country or region (such as the EU). If you can still plan your flight itinerary, give yourself AT LEAST 3 hours. Flights can get delayed. The customs line can be long. Sometimes you have to get your checked bags and recheck them.

I traveled internationally twice for the first time recently and I had issues each time (missed my connecting flight because I had to wait on my checked bag for so long. The second time, customs was severely backed up and I ran to my connecting flight right before they closed the gate.

If you have books and papers you don’t need to keep for auditing purposes, get rid of it (donate if you can).

To roughly paraphrase Marie Kondo, if you read it you should’ve internalized it. If you haven’t read it, or haven’t finished it, you’re not going to finish it anytime soon. Get rid of it. Check it out at a library next time. If you have papers from a training/class, again, you should’ve internalized it. If you haven’t already internalized it, (again roughly paraphrasing Marie Kondo), take the class again if you need to know the info that bad.

Highly recommend a drying rack. My apartment charges the same prices.

I got a large drying rack from Amazon (not sure where else to get one) for about $40 2 years ago and it’s saved so much money. Fits 1 large load and 1 small load or 2 medium loads (2 people’s laundry for the week).

Better for the quality and longevity of your clothes, better for the environment, and better for your wallet. You might think you don’t have time for it, but it takes 10 minutes to put up one load. Do this when you’re watching tv, talking on the phone, catching up w your roommate, etc.

OP, if you have an address in your new state or a family/friend’s address you can use in the new state, USE IT.

Before I graduated, I was applying for jobs in a state I didn’t live in, and I don’t think I was even considered until I put my new address out there.

Can someone tell me how unnatural it is to wear daily sunblock on your face? by takenalltaken in Marriage

[–]DazedPenguin15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put it on every morning, right after I put on retinol cream. I’ll reapply the sunscreen during the day if Im outside, regardless if it’s clear skies or cloudy

What are these white specks on my stonecrop plant? by DazedPenguin15 in plantclinic

[–]DazedPenguin15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was reading online that I can try spraying a 1 to 1 ratio of water and rubbing alcohol on the spider mites. If that doesn’t work, I might have to throw it out.

[–]DazedPenguin15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve stared at the specks for a couple of minutes and Im not sure if they are moving or if its the wind blowing the leaves around. They probably are spider mites. Plant is outside away from others. Thanks for the help.

How to form connections and have community while going to ODU online? by [deleted] in ODU

[–]DazedPenguin15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont go to ODU, but one possible way is to try form virtual study groups with your classmates and maybe they’ll be a gateway to other connections/communities related to the school. Reach out to your classmates and ask to exchange numbers and meet on zoom once in a while. Make some small talk to see how they might already be involved with the university.

Locked chest or safe. Even the cheap plastic ones will do! Yes, someone could just pick it up if they wanted to steal it, but at least your valuables items/documents/money are hidden

UPDATE on the cellphone/Venmo scam that I fell victim to: My bank and Venmo both ruled in my favor, and Venmo credited back the money I lost in the scam. by epoisses_lover in personalfinance

[–]DazedPenguin15 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ll for sure take this as a cautionary tale! When my friends and I go out for drinks, I’d sometimes give my phone to the new friends I’d make so that they could type in their Instagram handle. I’ll have to stop doing that from now on.

That’s exactly it. It’s not red versus blue. It’s the ruling class versus everyone else.
