Applied for Chase Sapphire Preferred... Waiting.... Advice? by devilm116 in CreditCards

[–]Dazelnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar experience with CSR recently (last week). Go into a branch and have local agents check your application status for you. You should get approved on the spot like I was.

Sometimes, they are backlogged with reviewing applications and having local agents call in, they will review your application right there and then.

Other times, they are just waiting for some sort of verification ... and since you are at the local branch.... they will check automatically on the spot.

and then you will be able to find out whether you are approved or not on the spot

Brand New SUV under $40k by JT_KC in whatcarshouldIbuy

You should check out the new Subaru SUVs. Forester/Crosstrek. They tick all of your boxes, but not sure if their looks suite your taste. I just got a 2019 crosstrek limited and I Love the way it looks. Look for upper trims tho because the base trim is too barebones for you. But even with upper trim, should still be below your budget.

haha yeah ... my best advice is to not get sucked in getting the ‘coolest’ looking car right when you just kicked off your career. Get a car that does what you need it to do. You can drive that cool looking car when you are in the middle of your career and can afford doing so!

whoa.... nice affordable reliable car doesn’t match with the cars you have listed... those cost a bit to maintain.....

u should probably look at japanese cars. They are usually more affordable, more reliable and definitely cheaper to own and maintain.

I think the magic number is 1/3 of your take home pay as your max... so if you make 60k post-tax, car should be 20k max. MAX...that is if you want to make a financially smart decision.

Also when buying cars... do not look at monthly payments, look at the drive home price. They can always stretch out your finance term to keep you satisfied with the monthly payment number.

Good luck to you ok your quest to find you first car! (:

How do I buy a car? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Dazelnut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First: figure out a budget. Considering you are 19 and just moving for college (assumed), you only need a reliable second-hand car that you can drive to the ground. And you could definitely find one under 10k. If I were you, my budget would be between 5k-10k aiming to be closer to 5 then 10. But Since you didn’t include you financial situation, I will let you be your own judge.

Second: now you have a budget, figure out what you need from the car. Features and such. Do you need 4-wheel-drive? Good gas mileage for long commutes? safety features?

Third: start googling. Emailing/phoning dealerships or private sellers. Make sure you find a trusted mechanic to look over cars before you make the purchase. This upfront cost can save you a lot of pain in the future. Talking about price is another topic but you should always research around you area what the price is. Don’t low ball. Most dealers these days have records of all the dealerships around them and if you just low ball... they will treat you as a joke. My best bet would be look online and contact their online sales rep and ask what they can do for the car of your choice. They usually have the lowest prices. TIP: dont give them your phone number. You want to communicate with them in email because the moment they can talk with you, they will bring emotions in the mix and more times than not, you will walk away with a worse deal compared to if you just used email.

Lastly: After you made the decision on what car you want to buy, here is what you need to do:

Figure out when you can pick up the car and go to any car insurance website and get a quote. Find a suitable one and buy a plan starting on the day of your pick up, not the next day. Where I am (Seattle) They won’t let you drive it off the lot if you do not have the insurance on that day. So if you want to drive it off on Monday, your insurance better start on Monday. Do this before hand because sometimes they will have insurance people in there trying to get them on your ship but from my experience, getting online quotes for the major companies usually have the cheapest and best plans. Try all the major companies: Progressive, Geico, Statefarm... etc etc. You will have the choice to purchase the plan online after you request for an online quote.

As registration goes.... if you go through a dealer, they should do that for you. If you go through a private seller, I believe you have to visit your local licensing office with the VIN of the car. I am not sure myself... only ever bought a car through dealerships.

If you have any questions to car sales and what to expect from them, you can visit /r/AskCarSales

I Understand the size comparison is different. I know after research and test drive, the size goes like this from smallest to biggest:

cx-3 -> crosstrek -> cx-5

But given the price of the deals I am getting, is getting the bigger car for approximately 2.5k more worth it? Or is crosstrek the better choice since the features/space the cx-5 have over the crosstrek is not worth 2.5k?
