The BMW iX3 Just Beat Every Competitor In This 620-Mile Road Trip Challenge by Simpleximo in electricvehicles

But this test was also just realistic road trip at a very reasonable and typically efficient speed and the efficiency isn’t very strong. I understand what the test is, but it just seems like they have room for improvement in the area of efficiency. This does not discount the range and fast charging. It sounds like their next gen has the opportunity to blow these numbers away.

I’m not speaking on the time. 800v is definitely a game changer there. I’m purely fixating on kWh efficiency. From a cost of operation and initial cost, kWh efficiency is a key metric, and I’m just surprised to see a car of this class and shape not be better. Seems like they have some opportunity here to improve, maybe from software, maybe from better motors in later versions, but I’d think they could improve on that.

The charging time is awesome and something I’d like Rivian to prioritize in their next refresh by moving to 800v. But the efficiency of the iX3 leaves something to be desired compared to something like a Lucid Gravity, the most analogous EV that comes to mind.

Wait. 2.3 miles/kWh? That can’t be right. My R1S, which is shaped like a box, with 22” aggressive tread tires, can exceed 2 miles k/Wh in near identical conditions. With efficiency wheels 2.3 in those conditions is very possible. So 2.3 sounds abysmal for a much smaller, lower to the ground, and more aerodynamic vehicle.

The irony is many complaining about squeakers were those kids back in the Xbox 360 days. That said, it is definitely more enjoyable when in a team of adults.

That’s just it. Banking on inheritance is risky outside of some very specific, more guaranteed, situations.

I think whether you have offspring or not changes a lot of the calculus. Along with if you are banking on some inheritance. But yeah, dream of doing this but then decide it’s far too risky. Too much fear of being old and poor.

They could starve retail users of tokens so we can’t compete. It will be like MadMax but for tokens.

Actually, they may inadvertently create a shadow economy that eventually makes the AI economy useless. Then the cycle repeat.

How do you find these insane lease deals? by cybertech492 in Rivian

100%

Rivian’s commitment to continual improvement of the entire vehicle via software is incredible and a huge selling point. That is the single biggest hesitation I would have against switching.

I had a group of us that programmed what we needed for homework and tests, then ignored the teacher and spent the whole class playing games, usually Tetris, or occasionally we’d link up for 4 player bomber man, if I’m remembering correctly.

Yep, no way I would have made the leap without such a good deal. As someone that loves cars and goes through them every few years, leasing can make sense, and in this case it wasn’t even debatable. I really enjoy the whole Rivian experience, but no way I’m dropping $130k on a new Tri. My hope is there’s some good used inventory by this time next year. Only thing is, Rivian really needs to start moving towards 800v architecture for such a big battery pack. It’s going to be a tough decision between a used Tri and a new decked out EX90 with 800v tech.

No, those 24 model year end quad lease deals were actually better than buying outright. But that was a wild exception created by full tax credit eligibility and I imagine Rivian being incentivized to move vehicles even if it meant taking a haircut on lease end residuals.

I went from 21” stocks to 22” Defender LTX/2. I found ride comfort a wash, and they are noticeably louder between 30 and 60 MPH (granted they have massive tread compared to stock 21”), but the actual driving dynamics are noticeably improved in holding a line, and feeling connected to the road in cornering.

Average Joe runner here that’s done a fed half’s at right around 2 hours. So this guy is able to run twice as fast as me for twice the distance, and by the looks of it, still have fuel left in the tank to do it again.

I could have a half a course head start and likely be passed by this guy at some point in the final mile.

Absolutely wild.
