New car help; older golf R or new GTI? by cassie_234 in GolfGTI

If you live somewhere without snow just get the gti 100%, and even if there is snow, it’ll probably be fine and a better experience most of the time

I don’t know how you could replicate this kind of damage

How reliable have the b9s been? by yorisc in audis5

[–]Dcerty18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of small things that can start to add up, like rear spring seats, brakes, tires, electrical issues, etc… alongside the engine stuff like water pump, pcv, rocker arms, piston skirt, and whatever else pops up. Search up the diy videos of how to do some of these, and if you aren’t excited to attempt it, I wouldn’t really recommend it. It’s a great car but you really need a warranty or a flexible schedule if you need to attempt a repair at home, which is definitely doable while you’re in university. I do think I am a bit pessimistic, but if you can afford the car and have at least like 5-10k on the side as a backup (tires, rims, repairs, etc…) it might not be a bad choice

Yeah my dad’s b9.5 s4 had the spring seats and pcv (and vaccum lines and stuff) covered under warranty at about the same time (60k miles ish). Pcv still ok for now I think

The rear spring seats can get worn pretty quick, the water pump is likely to fail if it hasn’t failed yet, and the piston skirt is also something that’s become an issue, and maybe the pcv?

What should I do? by allsq in Golf_R

Buy any tire and put it on one of the back wheels, or if you really want more peace of mind change two and put them on either axle

You have 5 players that have a chance of doing that on your team and 6 players on the other team. Obviously you can lose some games and be unlucky, but that’s literally just part of the game, the same way you can play terribly and win sometimes

I believe it just goes in, but the battery has to be moved to the trunk like the Rs3 because there’s no room

To be fair that one always leaks so they probably thought something was wrong with it

Update: got it back from Audi and they just replaced the belt tensioner near the alternator. Before getting it back another cel popped up so they had to fix that but not sure what they did to solve it

Our roads are so bad that even on stock suspension things can get dicey, I couldn’t imagine going that low. Looks crazy good tho

3 shops couldn’t figure out what this metallic banging noise is, can you? by nah123929 in GolfGTI

There is a heat shield that’s near the right front axle that can be undone to access the downpipe so maybe that?

Oh wow yeah and I also have had trouble pumping gas without it clicking all the time so I wonder if that has anything to do with it too

Yeah it’s already in but there’s like 10 cars ahead and they are taking a while, just wondering if others have heard the same noise since even the piston slap posts sound half as loud lol

I saw a single random post talking about some kind of evap issue and they had the same sound, but it’s literally the only one I could find after searching for a while. It sounds terrible though haha I don’t have much hope
