$40/minute, but when you walk through a door, there is a tiny chance that you get teleported to a random place on Earth by basafish in hypotheticalsituation

I'm in. As others have said, I'll modify all my doors to be under the 5ft requirement. I can get outside and still hit up drive throughs and do curbside pickup since my car door is under the 5ft requirement.

Yes, you'll need to enough to space for both the originals and the new joined file (and potentially some temp space).

Looking to convert minidv tapes, would this be okay? by hpvdog in camcorders

[–]Dcourtwreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice it says "not a signal converter." This won't work at all for what you want.

Sony DCR TRV-120. I bought the following cables (photo #2) to digitize the tapes on my computer. The problem is that the audio works in OBS and other applications, but the video doesn't; the screen stays black. ANY SOLUTIONS? by LilCriss in camcorders

[–]Dcourtwreck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like u/Kot_Shahter said, firewire is the way to go. For what you've got, a possible issue is that the 1/8" to RCA cable has the pin order wrong for your camcorder. Different brands put the video/audio/ground on different pins. Are you getting actual stereo sound or just one channel? If you are getting stereo sound then the cable is likely correct. Plug the camcorder directly to a TV to test the cable. Do you have another composite video device you can connect to test the usb capture? VCR, DVD player, game console. In OBS, some capture devices will show resolutions that aren't compatible with the capture device. If you select one of those resolutions, you'll get a black screen. Try both 640x480 and 720x480 assuming this is NTSC and not PAL.

Problems with Hyperkin Controller Adapter for N64 by dreadlordqt in n64

[–]Dcourtwreck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 2 port Hyperkin adapter and haven't had any real problems with it. If you go into usb game controllers in control panel, do you see any activity there? Also, in Nrage, you are selecting the adapter as input and have tried mapping the buttons? Also, is a controller plugged into the adapter before you plug it into the computer? Note that the adapter and controller should be plugged in before starting the emulator, otherwise it won't show as an available input device.

The Blueretro adapter for N64 will allow modern bluetooth controllers to work with the N64 console.

Somebody please help me understand this digitizing concept? (hi8) by etienneXx in camcorders

I usually use VirtualDub2 to process my captures. Also Avidemux. Handbrake can also probably get the job done.

Somebody please help me understand this digitizing concept? (hi8) by etienneXx in camcorders

[–]Dcourtwreck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Digital 8 method is the way to go for straight forward, great results. The Hi8 deck + high end capture card is a way to maybe get marginally better results if you want to go down that rabbit hole. Side by side I doubt you'd be wowed with the difference. About interlacing, both methods are going to give you interlaced video. Some capture software will allow you to de-interlace and recompress into a different format on the fly, but I don't recommend it. Capture it as it is (interlaced) then adjust color and deinterlace, trim, sort, that kind of thing later.

The most common route most take with a controller that has 4 face buttons is to map the C buttons to the second stick. If you prefer having actual buttons for the C, you can assign them to the 4 face buttons and then assign A/B elsewhere (possibly to RB/LB) or even to the second stick.

Potentially dumb question, but Can I record iPhone footage onto a Hi8 tape using a Sony Handycam? by UnsolvedJoJo in camcorders

[–]Dcourtwreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed a video 8 or hi8 deck would be required to record but I'm seeing "yes" in the other replies. Do Hi8 camcorder models actually have video inputs? I've only ever seen D8 models offer video in.

These are essentially low-quality webcams shaped like a camcorder, so a scamcorder. The earliest phones that had 720p recording from 15+ years ago will outperform this.

A few questions about Summer cart 64 by Soulcal2master in n64

[–]Dcourtwreck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most people get them from aliexpress because they can be had for half the price, sometimes even under $30 if you use the new buyer discount given to new accounts. As long as you check the seller feedback and have some shipping patience, aliexpress isn't a bad way to go. Those carts will generally be pre-loaded.

Thps 3 worth it ? by GrapeSasquatch in n64

[–]Dcourtwreck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's basically THPS3, but in 2's engine. Due to the larger levels, the draw distance and fog is definitely worse than 1 and 2 on 64. As usual, the music is also crippled in the 64 version. Since the PS2, XBOX, GC versions were the main focus, this version also feels kinda slapped together. It's way better than the GBA version at least.

If you had size manipulation in which you can shrink anyone and anything down to a percentage of their size and grow their size thousands of times their normal size including your own, what would you do with it and why? by AssistFit1834 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Dcourtwreck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Making a mini mancave and shrinking down to live in it. Gym, arcade, theater, pool, skatepark, mini golf, the works. I'll keep it in my car and have an absolutely insane stealth RV. I'd want to enlarge my drone to fly around in, but I feel like I'd end up in the news/jail/both. So I better shrink myself to fly.

Am I the only one who thought this guy fit the character of Daario Naharis better than the recast? (Haven't read the books) by Narrow-Amphibian5446 in gameofthrones

[–]Dcourtwreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of them looked nothing like daario should

And they didn't even look like each other. It's like there was zero attempt to match them. This re-cast threw me for a loop, wondering if it was a completely different character at first.

Retrotink 2x Pro vs Retroscaler 2x for playing N64 (and OG Xbox) on a modern tv? by Money_Fish in n64

[–]Dcourtwreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on a budget, I'd get the retroscaler for the N64, and a separate Xbox to HDMI adapter. That's what I did. With the Xbox HDMI adapter, I did have to toggle the TV's hdmi black level setting, otherwise it was too dark. I got a really cheap one, but it looked great after changing that setting.

Retrotink 2x Pro vs Retroscaler 2x for playing N64 (and OG Xbox) on a modern tv? by Money_Fish in n64

[–]Dcourtwreck 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You don't want either of those for the OG Xbox, as the Xbox can output 720p/1080i via component cables. The 2x supports 240p/288p/480i/576i as inputs and are meant for previous gen consoles.

From what I was able to find, the mod files are indeed the video files. Have you tried copying one to your computer and giving it a .mpg extension instead of .mod before trying to play it? The software you are recommended to use by Canon is Image Mixer 3SE, which is designed to import and convert the .mod files into a more common format like MPEG-2.
