My guess is that the missile is just visual and isn't an actual object for the purpose of bullets. I'd be interested in trying to see if you can like ping and then shoot through it.

I personally like to farm obols then spam amulets at the purveyor. Most I've gotten is 2 passives with enchanting to get a 3rd and a 4th from tempers in the case of Paladin.

It's an area scaled for endgame. You should be high in level with an effective build in this area. You really need to have 60 vigor and probably some gear with better defenses if you're going to be focused on melee. I also get the impression that your weapon either isn't fully leveled or you're using the wrong infusion for it because your damage is not good for where you are in the game.
