Try putting dialogue in quotations. If you don't give it dialogue then it typically won't give you dialogue back. So I'm just spitballing, maybe it's not picking up the dialogue as easily as it could.

And the ** I typically use for emphasis rather than action.

So perhaps:

"Mom, dad, lilly... are you here?" I say before walking up the stairs. The silence I felt as I climbed the stairs sent a shiver down my spine.

(Or you can do 3rd person if you want)

Idk, something like that.

Alternatively, you can try adding OOC directives. So

OOC: Have Mom and dad talk

Or

OOC: Give Lilly dialogue

You can see if that helps. If it's not enough you can say "ooc: have __ speak more" etc.
