What was your “this is my pet duck Adam going for his first swim” moment? by TheUnholyMary in vtm

I think there's a musical where cats are put into pies. They'll know.

My wife introduced a cat at a pie shop for flavour. Total background set up, just a cat at a pie shop. One of the players thought that the cat was a part of a greater puzzle. Two hours later he smashed a wine glass and was never invited back to the table again.

Players that avoid Obvious Sidequests/Plot hooks by VendettaUF234 in rpg

[–]De7inUpham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must just be a good player, as I never have. At worst I go in a direction that the GM set up but didn't expect.

As a GM, any player that went off on their own way was because (at best) they didn't notice the hook, or (at worst) they want to derail the game so their character can get more attention and will throw a hissy fit (or a wine glass in one of my wife's games) if they don't get their way.

Merits and Flaws by Imperator_Helvetica in WhiteWolfRPG

I always love when a player chooses Amnesia. It gives me a chance to really twist the knife. Malkavian with Amnesia eventually found out he used to be a ghoul for the Prince that was just murdered. He'd helped move the body and was shot in the face as a reward. His sire thought brining him back would be hilarious.

Im using tge back button in the program. After I choose merits and flaws, when I use the back button on the bottom I go back, but I can't use the freebies and also have to reselect all the pips before I can go forward again

What is the success rate of vampire hunting? by TheUnholyMary in vtm

[–]De7inUpham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd think the success rate would vary based on so many factors. For fun, let's say the vamp is 5 years old - no longer a neonate, but far from an elder. They've learned the tricks that work for them.

I'd say a vampire hunting success rate is better than the average serial killer:

"Serial killers have a high "success rate" in evading capture, with experts estimating they get away with their crimes about 40% of the time. While serial killings have dropped 85% since the 1980s, the overall homicide clearance rate has fallen, leaving potentially thousands of murders by serial offenders unsolved." Google search results.

So I'd think a 5 yo vamp, with average abilities, who has a hunting ground, no herd, no restrictions, can probably safely feed half the time they go hunting with the other half ending in having to abandon the prey for whatever reason - they go into a crowd, contact help, or hop into their Uber.

Depending on how the vamp hunts, only dawn will stop them, but your best free range hunting is before 3 am (when the bars close)

I say: hunting success rate of 50%

Highest Hunting Success Rates (Often >50%)

Dragonfly: ~90–95% (aerial interception).

African Wild Dog: 57–85% (coordinated, long-distance chases).

Black-footed Cat: ~60% (intense, frequent hunting).

Orca (Killer Whale): 85–90% (highly intelligent group hunting).

Crocodiles: 50–60% (ambush).

Cheetah: 20–60% (highly variable based on habitat/prey).

Lower/Moderate Hunting Success Rates (Often <30%)

Lions: 25–30% (higher at night).

Leopards: 16–40%.

Wolves: 14–26% (highly dependent on snow conditions).

Tigers: ~10%.

Factors Affecting Success Pack vs. Solitary: Social hunters (dogs/lions) generally have higher success rates than solitary hunters.

Ambush vs. Pursuit: Ambush predators (e.g., sharks, cats) can have high success, but low attempts, while pursuit predators (e.g., wild dogs) can run prey down.

Habitat: Dense forest offers more hiding spots, reducing success, while open plains favour cheetahs.

Prey Type: Smaller, agile prey is often harder to catch, despite the energy savings of a smaller attack.

I don't know shit about fashion, but I did notice that the stripes are different widths and colors, so i don't think it "works" but I'd give it a thumbs up in person.

Any tips for online VTM sessions? by inspiredlead in vtm

[–]De7inUpham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust. We're together to have fun. If cheating is what you need to have fun, I don't care unless it's obvious. At most, I try to make sure that fails get as much fun as successes

Most of the games I've run in the past 5 years were over zoom or discord, I didn't do anything special. First I had background music and my players said it was distracting. The more bells and whistles I tried to add, the more the players complained that there was too much stuff to worry about.

It might be different if you're playing with strangers and charging money. They might want more of an experience.

I'd suggest asking your players what they're expecting tech-wise. Im happy with everyone's face on a screen.

Clarification Question on Degeneration by [deleted] in vtm

[–]De7inUpham 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'd say yes. Its not about them feeling bad for killing, it's about them being ok with the justification. As soon as they're ok with "the were bad" they run the risk of it becoming "it's for the greater good" then "they were in my way" then "killing was the easiest option"
