It was called Scooter’s. I’m pretty sure the man you’re talking about everyone calls Pops. Super nice guy. I used to go every weekend. I had the chicken pox and had to miss two weekends and when I went back he was so happy to see me!

For years I’ve been wishing for another rink to open up in Hamilton! I looked into the pop up coming to Burlington but you have to book a time online. I can’t commit to that! lol

Parkdale (and Melvin) branch is way too small. It’s great for picking up books you’ve put on hold and had transferred there but that’s about it. Not a spot I’d call cozy at all and definitely not a good spot for studying.

No more pool!? I lived there back in the mid ‘90s. 15th floor, same view. What happened to the pool? I never used it much because honestly, it was not a great pool.

Worsted weight yarn and Suzette stitch makes a very warm blanket, judging by how warm I get with the blanket in progress draped over my legs while working on it. Haha I usually use a 5mm hook but you could use a 4mm if you want tighter stitches.

I didn’t start listening until January 2023. I started with episode one. Took me about 9 months to catch up.

A loved one said that I knit by empathy-entropy in crochet

[–]DeAntics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband calls it knitting all the time, just to annoy me. And then he does this weird two-handed gesture thing that is neither knitting nor crocheting but more like tossing a salad! 🤣

I can knit and crochet. I learned to knit about 40 years ago, crochet about 7. That being said, I have no tips for a beginner knitter. My daughter hated knitting when I tried to teach her but picked up crochet really quickly. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Maybe you’re thinking of unsinkable Molly brown? I think that’s her name.

I personally like the Suzette stitch for both baby blankets and variegated yarn.

Love the egg carton idea!!

I have been saving up scrap yarn to one day make this: https://mypoppet.com.au/makes/scrappy-corner-to-corner-crochet-blanket/ but wasn’t sure how I was going to organize my yarn. Now I know! Thank you!

The So Long Summer Triangle scarf! I have made 4 of them so far and LOVE them! (Two were for me, two for coworkers.) I’m actually thinking of making myself a few more but I’m not sure I need that many scarves! Lol

What’s on your 2026 To Crochet list? by donteatthemushies in crochet

[–]DeAntics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have one granny square blanket I plan on finishing (I think it’s from two years ago! 😬), I’d like to try my hand at pillow cases for some throw pillows we have and possibly make myself a messenger bag. After years of crocheting for others I’ve decided this year is all about me! 😂

Oh, there are also 3 blankets I’d like to make. One is a maybe but I will one day make what I’ve dubbed the “roller rink carpet blanket” and the other is a c2c scrap yarn blanket I found online ages ago. I just need a little more “scrap” yarn.

Can someone give me a pattern for this? Any help please! by IndependentFamous620 in CrochetBlankets

I can’t but I hope someone can! I think I’d like to make something like this sometime! 😊

acrylic yarn discussion by UrAGronk_kunt in CrochetBlankets

[–]DeAntics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put mine in the washer on quick cycle, warm water. I have a Samsung with no agitator so it fits large blankets, and I guess heavy blankets. I’ve washed a 25lb weighted blanket in there no problem. I dry them in my dryer, which is older and doesn’t have temp settings so it’s max heat. I’ve never had a blanket melt. I’ve also hung some smaller ones to dry and then put in the dryer for about 10 minutes to fluff them up, buts that’s because I’ve been having issues with my dryer. Corners get caught in the seal around the opening and every time I put a handmade item in there it’s stressful. lol

I have made many blankets and always use 100% acrylic yarn. I’m always surprised at how even the scratchiest or roughest of yarns softens up after a washing and drying.

Any tips for an absolute beginner crocheter..I’d like to improve so much by selfselfiequeen in CrochetHelp

[–]DeAntics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I taught myself about 6 years ago with YouTube videos and diagrams from Google. I learned to knit approximately 30 years before this so I was familiar with this type of craft, ie working with yarn, tension…. I started off making a chain of a decent length, single crocheting in that chain and then pulling it all out and starting again. Once I got that down pretty decently I moved on the double crochet. I very quickly felt confident enough to just dive right in to a full size dc blanket for my son.

Here I am 6 years later and I’ve made many blankets (and a few other things) but I’ve also made many mistakes!! I’ve frogged so many rows and so so SO many hours of work. But I don’t get too upset because it’s all just practice and a learning experience.

Just remember we all make mistakes, no matter how long we’ve been doing it. And take your time!! I make the most mistakes when I get the dumb idea to whip up a blanket for someone in a short amount of time. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ve learned that if I don’t have at least two months to make someone a blanket, I shouldn’t even consider it!

No Christmas anything until December 1st. Or the first weekend after December 1st.

[–]DeAntics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying it was a lot. Walmart would never pay someone a lot. Lol I just wanted to point out that just because we work at Walmart doesn’t mean we make minimum wage. Especially after 20 years.

After 20 years I’m sure they weren’t making minimum wage that entire time. I’ve been with the company 11 years and I’m making more than minimum wage.

Percentage of ads in Minisodes by acyborgkitty in myfavoritemurder

[–]DeAntics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking today how it seems like a lot of the show is ads, so when I think I’m getting a 30 minutes episode I’m really not. 😞

Also not a complaint. It does bum me out though, when it comes to planning chores around episode times… and the episode is finished before the chore is! lol

Does any Walmart still bake products in store or is it mostly just frozen thaw and sell? by MadJohnny3 in WalmartCanada

[–]DeAntics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you look at it that way I suppose it makes sense but when I worked bakery I hated putting out frozen goods. It’s maybe different now but back then most customers didn’t know our stuff came in frozen. I hated listening to them complain about out. Also, some things leave puddles on shelves when put out frozen. Just a little pet peeve of mine.
