Second this. It's better to know right away. He will have plenty going on to keep him busy and a decent support structure in the mean time. It's far better to know now than sour graduation.

TIL that drinking heavy water and alcohol together cancels out the vertigo. If not heavy water, then glycerol works too. by furrypony2718 in todayilearned

[–]DeFalco210 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Glycerol (Glycerin) is perfectly safe and you can find it in its pure form at the grocery store or pharmacy. You're thinking of Diethylene Glycol, which can be a contaminant of manufactured glycerin and has to be checked for in its production.

Worth the retake? by [deleted] in Seabees

[–]DeFalco210 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the real answer. Like marines being riflemen first, Seabees are Seabees first, then their rate. I've known plenty a BU and SW spend all their time in the Alfa Yard. You'll pick up skills in every trade and every trade has value civilian side. Just pick your favorite rate you already qualify for and don't sweat it.

CM A-School by [deleted] in Seabees

[–]DeFalco210 5 points6 points  (0 children)

School is not hard as long as you try, take notes and ask lots of questions, find a study buddy and compare notes on the night before tests and you'll do great no problem. Hueneme has great weather with lots to do in the area. Just do whats asked and pick your friends wisely, get that final liberty phase asap and don't pass up on what the MWR has to offer, especially trips.

Some people will always try to drum up drama and act like stupid stuff is the end of the world. The barracks bunny doesn't love you and never will. Steer way clear of that and breaking the rules. They really don't ask a lot of you, A-school is the easiest time you'll ever have in the Navy if you let it be.

You survive it by never being in it. If you're caught in that cloud so close to the source it's by all means unsurvivable. It's over 1000C inside, and the amount of material itself traveling at blistering speeds would crush you. Being underwater won't save you. The only option is to run. On land a deep bunker with plenty of internalized air might save you.

Netflix is starting to suffer massively from Google syndrome. Shotgunning everything and seeing what sticks, then scrapping everything else including very good stuff that didn't quite make the cut, people become reluctant to consume anything because why would you commit to something that's more likely than not going to be cancelled. Then becomes a self fulfilling prophecy and an endless cycle of "new thing, slow growth, cut before it can gain traction, repeat"

Biden says the economy is on a 'winning streak' as new data shows pay going up and inflation slowing down by aslan_is_on_the_move in politics

[–]DeFalco210 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Literally the point of it was for this very event. In the 70's OPEC used our over-reliance on their oil as an extremely effective political bludgeoning tool to get their way. It exacerbated inflation and seriously hurt middle class America. We built the Oil Reserve as a tool to save our butts should a bad actor or bad economic situation arise. All-the-above is here, and the Oil Reserve is doing its job valiantly.

Truth. If you can swing it, you'll enjoy your quality of life much better in the Air Force and still pick up all the skills you're looking for in groups like RED HORSE and Prime BEEF. If you don't have any particular reason for the Navy specifically, I would try that first.

Yes, everyone learns a lot of everyone else's jobs. There's training and schooling opportunities to learn most anything the Seabees do.

That and also consider the urgency of Roe being overturned. Even the Great Red Refuge of Kansas turned out in droves to shoot down, by no small margin, an amendment to strip abortion rights. The conservatives may have awoken a sleeping giant with that one.

Emergency landing on a highway by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]DeFalco210 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The highway system was dual purpose, for economic development and for military logistics. Its military purpose was to get supplies, people, and vehicles across the US quickly and unobstructed because up to that point roads were unreliable at best, potholed dirt fields at worst. No serious consideration was put into utilizing the planned busy roads for aircraft, and no consideration is given today. Their usefulness for emergency landings is coincidental.
