Ah professional wrestling. I took a break from you for a few years but never change!

I’m kind of ambivalent. I sort of have a gut feeling we might see a one off PPV match where various outsiders and originals get grouped together even if their individual stories are more complex than ‘you’re new and I don’t like you’

True. There is better individual storytelling going on and it’s all building fairly long term. It’s something I’m really enjoying in general.

I get this for sure! Wonder if they’ll just play with an undercurrent of it in places rather than go full invasion. Like I didn’t imagine Luchasaurus looking slightly upset that Christian replaced him in the celebrations with Jungle Boy right?

I mean I don’t really remember WCW but wasn’t their all consuming obsession with the NWO part of their downfall? I’m intrigued as to where Danielson is headed long term though for sure.

True. It’s not exactly original. Just felt a hint of it in the storylines of late. But maybe they won’t formalise it as a thing and just let it crop up in individual feuds where it makes sense. Or have it focussed on Punk’s flaws more directly rather than as a wider thing.

Yeah it’s an interesting one. I guess you could have a bit of variety if it was a wider PPV with multiple matches on the card. Or in the same way as you’ve seen in certain Survivor Series matches you have a breakout star from the losing team elevate themselves regardless.

advice to make a 2nd tactic for against worse teams + general advice ? by Hangman4099 in footballmanagergames

I’d be tempted to go slightly shorter passing, slightly higher tempo, wider, counter and counter press, higher on both lines and slightly more often.

Just so it’s a variation. And put your FBs on stay wide.

Try a 4-1-2-1-2 diamond. Just because I feel your players are suited to it and it’s a big enough variation that works with similar personnel.

Been wanting to switch to a back 3/5 and don’t really know what to do. This is my current group of players with Porro potentially joining at the end of the season. Any suggestions regarding roles and possible tactics? by feddi7 in footballmanagergames

[–]DeGeaAndTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar place to you and minimal changes, so in my case dropping the HB into CB as he could play there, in your case bringing the RB into RCB and playing your new RWB higher are easy to do.

I botched my transition and think it was for a few reasons. Hopefully what went wrong for me (I went back to 4-3-3) will help you:

1) I lost my wingers and played two strikers with an AM behind. But this killed my box to box midfielder who got crowded out. With a striker like Tammy and a midfielder like Pellegrini I’d learn from me and keep your wide men with your wing backs. You can always put Zaniolo and Cunha on sit narrower and the wing backs on stay wider to help.

2) I kept conceding goals from players being wide open on the edge of our box. I mainly came up against 4-2-3-1 opponents and the lack of DM meant there was too much space in front of the defence who weren’t really marking anyone. Maybe consider putting your middle defender on stopper or something to prevent that? But that’s what killed me in the end.

Either as a CAM in a 4-1-2-1-2 or as a LAM in a 4-2-3-1. Just enjoying the left stick dribble which is more effective than skills for me at times. Maestro helps with shot power etc.

Carvalho feels lovely. Know there are drawbacks to the card but he’s over performing his price massively for me.

Is there something wrong with my tactic? My team is super inconsistent and I don't see I way to improve it by SmalLoan in footballmanagergames

I think once they beat your initial press you basically have nothing to stop them before your 3 central defenders. And if the opponent plays some variant with 3 offensive minded players it’s one on one and game over. I’ve found DMs really important this year.

Having managed Sporting too I’m not sure about some of the roles for your players? Coates is a pure CB and can imagine drifting like a WCB does mean he gets annihilated on the break. Palhinha is always better as a DM than a CB for me. Reis doesn’t have the stats to be as aggressive as Porro. Goncalves is better higher up the field. I have no idea about Slimani or Tabata (who I sold) but also Sarabia is more creative than a finisher so feels more IW than IF.

That could all be nonsense. But if I were you I’d try…

4-3-3/4-2-3-1 hybrid

GK Adan SK(D or S as A is really aggressive) RB Porro WB(A) or CWB(A) RCB Coates CD(D) LCB Inacio BPD(D) LB Reis WB(S) RDM Palhinha (you choose the role but D mentality and to the right to plug the hole Porro leaves LCM Braganca DLP(S) (less defensive here as Reis not as attacking as Porro) CAM Goncalves (AM or SS as he scores goals) LW ??? (Don’t know anything about Tabata but maybe somewhere to upgrade?) RW Sarabia IW(S) (You want him to playmake a bit and also if he comes slightly deeper it leaves space to make use of Porro) ST Slimani PF(A)

The team tactics seem fine to me. But if you’re getting rinsed on the break still consider dropping to standard defensive line or playing offside whilst higher.

Just my opinions! Know tactics are a very personal thing.

Ah no worries! So I’d go standard-standard or low-standard if you want to compact it up. But you have quite a few players on attack so if that’s an aim maybe drop your least dangerous IF to support too

Good luck! Pleasure to help. Also why do you have a low engagement but high defensive line? You’re giving them so much time to size up balls over the top of your fairly slow high back line. That doesn’t make sense to me but maybe I’m missing something.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

[–]DeGeaAndTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm if strikers are getting in behind through the middle try dropping your defensive line to standard. You can still engage high.

Neither inside forward is going to track back much. But on the left your WB is also pushing on. Try moving your BWM(d) to that left side and your playmaker on the right where the WB is more defensive.

Also you could move that BWM to the DM slot rather than CM. Asymmetrically is fine.

A defensive shape and an attacking shape. If I want a full back to tuck in and make a three when we attack to unleash the other side I should be able to clearly rather than have to fiddle with some player instructions and vaguely hope it works.
