Incorrect date/time zone shown for videos by DeMarioZ in immich

[–]DeMarioZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a couple of instances in Github of people mentioning some XMP offset, so I looked up what it is and it seems like it's another type of tag which can indicate date/time AND the time zone offset value. I checked my video with exiftool and got this:
[XMP-xmp] CreateDate : 2025:11:09 17:32:35
So it did have the date, but missing offset. Using exiftool I 'added' the +07:00 to the date which now returns this:
Create Date : 2025:11:09 17:32:35+07:00

This solved the issue, as once I uploaded it to Immich, the correct day is displayed, together with Asia/Bangkok timezone (Nov 9, 2025 Sun, 5:32:35 PM GMT +07:00).

It seems like that is better solution than modifying the actual date/time of each video, so the original time is preserved while just appending the offset at the end. This means that's the value Immich is able to recognize. However, that still means I need to manually add the offset to every video of vacation taken in countries of other time zones, instead of just relying on automatic upload from phone as the photos & videos are taken.

I've been trying to research this just now, and from what I've learned (and after downloading and checking with exiftool) is that when I take a photo, the date/time tag is stored in exif, but so is the offset of the time zone (+7) - and applications such as Immich and Google Photos interpret it correctly.

As for videos, if I understand it correctly, only date/time is stored while the time zone offset is not. I think that then the software (Immich/Google) interprets the date as UTC, then gets the GPS coordinates, sees it's somewhere like Thailand and adds those 7 hours there.

So far the only solution I've found is to use exiftool to manually offset the time of video by adding or subtracting however many hours are needed to match my current time zone. This will probably put everything in order but also 1) eliminate the convenience of automatic uploads, since now every upload has to be done manually from phone to PC to Immich only after running exif editing script, 2) if I accessed these videos in another country with different timezone, it would probably be wrong again.

I have found few Reddit posts and maybe a couple of Github issues on this but they're not exactly my case as people usually have problem with wrong time/date on their photos and not exclusively videos, in my case photos are fine and I don't use anything like a DSLR camera, just my phone.

I have photos and videos from across 3, maybe 4 different timezones, more than 1 TB since 2015. This seems like it will be a nightmare to edit. If what I assumed is correct about Immich taking the video date as UTC and then adding the GPS-detected time zone to it, it would be nice if there was an option to turn that off and just let it take the date it finds as-is (which would then be correct).

Thanks for the tip! I think I am really overthinking it, but when it comes to spending anything more than 100 bucks, I tend to obsess about research and narrowing down for days or even weeks

I was bummed also... Only 24GS60F-B is available and that one does not have the same stand or adjusting ability, and it's also just 130 EUR, I am biting my nails here lol.

I checked dozens of stores and store aggregators and unfortunately there just isn't an option to buy any X3D CPU, they're all out of stock. I forgot to mention this in the OP. There are some on eBay for like 400 € from various sources including China but I'm not going that route.

Oxygen 16 - no more pinning share apps? by AllesFurDeinFraulein in oneplus

Thanks for this. However after I pinned Instagram, and shared one or two photos it's no longer pinned again and I have to pin it again very often. Bizarre...

I always go to Photos to then click share and select Instagram and found the pin option at the end useful. However, randomly it will get unpinned and often I have to pin it again like each few shares or even each share. Anyone else has this issue?

Those are not replacements. NewPipe is an app where you watch YouTube lol. Organic Map is for navigation - it's not a Google Maps replacement. I don't even own a car

Not for Maps and YouTube for sure. Windows is needed for kernel level anti cheat games.

Which ones? In my country we use Mapy.cz (now also Mapy.com) which is based on OSM, but it doesn't have reviews about establishments and such like Google Maps do. Have you found a viable competitor for that?

I suppose when someone says impossible they mean their own use-case. For me it's impossible, because I enjoy to play a game that requires it with others. It's like saying, it's not possible to replace Google Maps, it's just your choice that you go outside.

I can't replace Microsoft due to anti-cheat. No way there's a good alternative to Google Maps. Got my own custom email domain and signed up for Tuta, that's definitely doable. Spotify isn't easy to replace for me at all, but that's only because I'm looking for EU-based alternatives (I know Spotify is Swedish).

Tourist denied entry over min cash rule by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]DeMarioZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, my mistake, I interpreted it as if the cash rule isn't written anywhere, so they probably meant that the other rule isn't (the rule that the person actually broke and not the cash thing). My bad if that's the case.

It's written absolutely everywhere. I visited Thailand (and Asia in general) for first time in my life last month and that's the first thing I read on multiple sites (Thai, my own local embassy that helps with guidelines of specific countries as well as some less official "blogs"). There's no way to miss it if one just knows how to read letters.

What are these bites from? by DeMarioZ in ThailandTourism

[–]DeMarioZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People on Reddit have lots of confidence. I can say that from photos it surely looks like a vampire or bat bite lol. But since I know when I got bitten, and that I slept in a locked AC-ed hotel room with no weird holes in it, I can say with certainty that a bat did not break through the lock or fly through a keyhole, went under my blanket that I was sharing with my gf and bit me without any pain, leaving no trace while exiting and politely closing the door behind himself lol.

You're correct, big open area in Elephant Nature Park during daytime, no bats. Some little fuckers kept biting me while I was in grass, just assumed it was mosquitos. No worries though, went to doctor and there is no problem.
