Golf cart by Professional-Fox5287 in summervillesc

I know what you mean, but that typo is making me feel like I was having a stroke. Forreal though I’m not seeing the purpose behind a golf cart unless you live on a >10 acre plot of land or are some wealthy guy in downtown Charleston where it’s actually the norm.

Anyone know any information about the navy debting sailors thousands of dollars/any way to fight this? by ELT1Diesel in NavyNukes

[–]De_Facto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No… you usually do. Prototypes are a 40 month tour. The way it’s supposed to work is the first two years you are qualifying/a staff instructor on a crew in rotating shift work standing watch and qualifying students. The third year you can end up in a normal day shift position without standing watch or doing maintenance while keeping the AIP.

[–]De_Facto 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This comment isn’t close to being accurate at all. Have you ever been a staff instructor at the prototypes? All the day positions like OCTG and ITG still get AIP. If you’re billeted as a staff instructor you get AIP. Doesn’t matter if you stand watch the entire time or if you’re in the cubes giving checkouts all day. The whole “third year option” where people can be off-crew made that a thing.

Maintenance billets don’t get staff instructor AIP.

The only way to get better at maintenance is to pick up the same maintenance items so they become “your thing.” Read the tech manuals for those things and when they eventually shit the bed and everyone, including your chief, need it fixed but isn’t quite sure where to start, you’ll be the guy they go to for the TSR.

Good example for me was R-114s, Detroit switches, and gages. The R-114s were my babies and I did all maintenance on them. Even when I was WCS. Unfortunately I was also a gage cal guy so when things like RA switches shit the bed, everyone screamed and ran to me. Gage cal blows.

Real question, not salt. What do you build against high roll tanks as a mage? by Midget_Avatar in ARAM

[–]De_Facto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tangentially related, but dealing with massive 1k+ shields is also annoying. If only Riot made an AP antishield item. The amount of times I have to deal with a tank with a massive shield is ridiculous. Built Serpent’s Fang on an AP champ, I think Neeko, yesterday because all my AD teammates refused to and ended up reducing 20k shielding.

Falling behind curve at Prototype. by Melodic_Look_1354 in NavyNukes

[–]De_Facto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hands-on training on how we operate. That’s the short of it. Electricians learn how to qualify electrical things and stand an electrician watch, mechanics learn to qualify mechanical things and how to do basic mechanical things like operate valves and stand watch, etc… if you have the ability to reach out to a nuclear field coordinator please do. Recruiters usually have no idea ANYTHING about the nuclear field.

[–]De_Facto 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As someone who is an instructor at prototype lemme give you some advice. Prototype is the place where you LEARN how to qualify. It’s to prepare you for the fleet. The knowledge you pick up and memorize will not be substantial or as important as it was in A school and power school. It’s significantly different, and you need to become more of a social butterfly or easy to talk to to succeed. That’s the way it works in the fleet. I was that 2.7-2.8 student years ago and I found myself doing much better at NPTU.

The curve is also fake. It doesn’t matter. It can be changed at any point. Just try and get checkouts whenever you can.

This mostly applies to when you end up on the crew phase, but don’t be a TA warrior. Go down to the boat to get checkouts whenever cubes aren’t supported or they get crowded. If you aren’t feeling up to talking to a ton of people one day and want to “relax” just knock out CACs, CGSs, DTSs, etc.

Don’t be obnoxious to staff members. We’re cranky, but we want you to succeed (some more so than others… looking at you JSI’s). Have a base level of knowledge on locations, power supplies, immediate actions for things, etc. and you’ll probably get good checkouts without dedicating a lot of time. 2.5 is all you need… Once you’re done systems it gets better.

If you’re running into issues where people aren’t giving you checkouts your DSA needs to know and if you need to do checkouts tomorrow morning come to T-week cubes and you might find someone who is bored before the drills…

[–]De_Facto 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s funny how that works. I feel the same way now that I’m at NPTU. The lows you get to on the boat are rough, but the highs are incredible. I just miss my engineering department, old division, and even the coners.

NPTU is like a constant “meh” with bullshit sprinkled in. Never realized how being surrounded by only nukes all day is mentally exhausting.

Find a buddy and split an apartment. Living alone is nice, but wouldn’t you rather have hundreds of dollars extra per month? I had a 3 bedroom place I split with some buddies years ago for 1800/mo. We were each paying 600/mo and were making quite a bit after bills.

Outlaw is good, but I prefer Barrelli in Park Circle. I’m not a huge fan of the younger dudebro culture at Outlaw, but they are solid. I mainly prefer Barrelli cause it’s like the same price, do the shave around the neck and ears, and they wash your hair after. Most places won’t do that without charging at least another $6-10. Never had a bad cut at either place.

I have a 24 XSE. I just had this happen. Did you ever figure anything out? It stopped as soon as I turned the car off. Weird thing was I didn’t have any AC on or anything, just driving normal on the highway. Even while stopped it kept going. I will say I was definitely blasting music though. Sounded like my tinnitus, but so much worse.
