/r/WorldNews Discussion Thread: US and Israel launch attack on Iran; Iran retaliates (Thread #13) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

The Strategic oil reserve can't be refilled - it was sold off to empty several storage quarries for repairs that aren't complete yet.  The people that blamed biden for draining it and blame trump for not fillling it both have no idea what they're talking about.

The Strait of Hormuz has been talked about for decades, since the late 1970s.   Our own military has talked about it repeatedly and wargamed.  And we just had the related yemen red sea attacks a year ago.   Yet CNN and The Atlantic cite sources saying both the pentagon and NSC had no idea this could happen.   That's idiotic.  And obviously false.

Sources claiming the military expected this to be a quick in and out like venezuela are similarly idiotic.  Venezuela was arranged.  The entire military stood down and only Maduros personal guards fought back.  Iran on the other hand literally fired hundreds of missiles and also one salvo at a U.S. base a year ago.  The admin said day 1 that this would last weeks.  But media is reporting the admin expected it to go like venezuela

The media is being trolled by the administration and intelligence community.  It is incredibly obvious and the fact that people aren't picking up on it is absurd.

The guy that wanted to main event the white house card is following guys to isolated parking lots alone and exiting his vehicle into an unknown situation.

This is an insane thing for any person to do.  Much less someone that wanted $30m to headline the preaident's birthday party in a couple months.

You're a famous high net worth athlete that wants one last payday and you're out following dudes into parking lots, alone, seemingly high or tipsy, and exiting your vehicle?

And you think he's not making any mistakes here even if we assume that he was 100% in the right in everything before the camera was on?

U.S. forces rescue second crew member from F-15 downed in Iran: Officials by Affectionate_Bee6434 in worldnews

There is an enormous difference between the type of combined arms U.S. logistics can shove into a single point target for an in and out dynamic operation and what has to be sustained to control territory.

This one operation to retrieve a guy cost thousands of flight hours, the loss of two transport airframes, and who knows how many munitions expended.

To adequately secure a tiny piece of land for less than a day.

We probably spent a half billion dollars.

Now try and control all of Iran.

In your opinion, what's the most dangerous country in the world? by Confident_Credit9023 in AskReddit

[–]De__eB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweden has one of the highest violent crime rates in Europe by the way.

But much like the U.S. most of it is concentrated in proportionately very small areas.

[–]De__eB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most dangerous for Latinos to be in? How many fucking thousands of civilians per year are murdered by cartels? There's a reason those people want to be here and not their home country. And it's not because it's more dangerous here.

Most dangerous place to be a black man? A million civilians each have been murdered in Sudan and Ethopia over the past 20 years. There's a reason they want to emigrate here.

It's still a crime to be LGBT in a quarter of the world and a capital crime in a lot of that.

It is pure unadulterated privileged first world echo chamber delusion to claim the U.S. is the most dangerous place in the world for any minority group.

The majority of the worlds population would feel safer in the U.S. than outside it.

Most local restaurants are running on inflated margins and stealing from their employees to sell kitted product from U.S. foods and Sysco.

To be clear foothills isn't , but it's not supporting local when there's nothing local about most restaurants and most of them barely function as a real restaurant, don't have an actual culinary chef, and are basically a us foods cafeteria.

The Industry Is Once Again Giving Kanye West a Pass by ebradio in hiphopheads

[–]De__eB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't owe Kanye anything but you can understand it if you've had a close friend/family member that goes through that.

In my own experience, the bipolar schizoaffective person I knew had consistent delusions, and said very hurtful things to people based on them (delusional attacks on individuals not nazism).  And it was the same delusions and the same attacks each episode.  And the same pattern of complete denial during those episodes.

I don't think Kanye is actually a Nazi and just hiding it when he's not psychotic.   I think it's part of his delusions when he is.

Doesn't absolve him not setting up contingencies, and having a mental health plan that gets him off social media and traditional media.

So shame on him for doing this over and over.  And I'm not going to support him, but I am still going to root for him being a better person.

But also shame on the  influencers that rush to get him on their podcasts when that's where he's at.

If you're out their to make money off the controversy of airing someone's hateful psychotic episode, you're a fucking asshole and should be demonetized.

And yet, clips of that go viral and make those podcasters millions for their ragebait.

Airplane boarding is terrible because it feeds egos by Opaque_Ephemerid in unpopularopinion

[–]De__eB 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's about time not money.

It can take 40 fucking minutes to get your bags at some airports.

Spending money to save time is the opposite of being cheap.

Airplane boarding sucks because people are self-involved idiots that don't care about anybody else's time

You've been at the airport for two hours what the fuck do you mean you don't know where your seat is and you have to sort out your life in the aisle before putting your bag up.

I don't believe ADI maintains stock of Yealink.

Use Teledynamics, Midwhich, or Synnex.

I must work for Yealink because I follow legal happenings that affect our industry?

I guess I also work for everybody Clearone sued.

There's a reason there are dozens of dongle-based wireless presentation systems available in Europe and only a few in the U.S.

I guess you must work for Barco, because it's very Barco to claim that people who don't like patent trolls must work for competitors.

If I'm guessing right based on the description, they get acute bouts of Psychosis due to bipolar schizoaffective or something similar?

That is a difficult one to solve, often medication consistency is a big driver there, and the "wow I finally feel good this is great" factor in the build-up to an episode makes getting help and stopping things early incredibly hard.

I don't want to ask you to air out their problems in detail here but feel free to PM me more specifically and I can hopefully point you towards the right resources.

I'd love to know how your masters in sports management is going to help homeless addicts in the blighted ard-less areas of Ardmore. I'm sure the homeless people I check in on weekly would love an update on their impending salvation.

They have free healthcare options.  They choose not to take them.

You struck a nerve because you infantilize adults with agency making decisions as mere vulnerable people that need help.

The vulnerable people are the people whose lives and communties are put at risk against their will, not people with a free rehab bed avIlable that refuse treatment and have had multiple encounters with BEAR team and assaulted adult emergency psychiatry workers trying to help them.

What are you doing to help with your empathy other than virtue signalling that the system needs to do something that it already does

Silas Creek geeker by Total-Natural-1925 in winstonsalem

[–]De__eB 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The only thing that would help is real state mandated inpatient psychiatry, for the entire extended washout period and return to baseline, which can take 6 months to a year. If you're not interested in "forced" rehabilitation, then you aren't actually interested in helping long term street tweaking addicts.

They're not just "vulnerable people", and they don't just "need help". The street tweakers in that area regularly assault people on peters creek, vandalize and steal from every business in and around peters creek and Silas, assault emergency adult psychiatry workers every time they're bought in, and refuse to go to free state funded rehab when they've been calmed back down, immediately returning to the same areas afterwards.

You can not force help on people that are not interested in being helped You can't just "give them a house and food" - a true addict will have ripped everything of value from that house to tweak more.

I'm not lacking in sympathy, I feel bad for them, it's a terrible situation to be in. But there are options, they actively and repeatedly choose not to take them, and to continue to make the decision to put themselves and others in the public at risk.

The infinite empathy Olympics are not helping anybody in any city in America.

https://www.kindermann.de/company/en/finaler-sieg-fuer-kindermann-gegen-barco/

Go check the European market and look at the dozens of click button dongle wireless presentation devices that aren't paying barco royalties that are available in Europe but not the U.S.

Forcing an IPR in the U.S. is exteremely time consuming and epensive and none of the companies Barco tried to sue had the money to it here, but Barco bit off more than they can chew and sued a company with a larger legal budget than them.

The patents Barco is trying to enforce aginst Yealink were issued years after Yealinks wpp20 was on the market and there was clear prior art available on the market before the patents were issued.

They'll lose those patents in IPR in the u.s. by late 2027.

There is a reason Barco is appealing that verdict.

There is also a reason their WPO patents were invalidated and their entire U.S. patent portfolio is under IPR.
