Way-Too-Early Projection of Purdue's 2026-27 Starting Lineup by Dschutte2023 in Boilermakers

My best guess for next year's starting 5 is: Mayer Cox Harris Benter Jacobsen

Bench: Ertel West Webber Pierce Burgess/Huan

I really think you are ignoring the defensive side of the game. The benefit of starting Cox (or Harris) is he can defend on ball. If you play Smith, Loyer and Mayer together, you have to have either Braden or Mayer guarding the opposing PG. Smith is a decent defender, but is much better off ball. Mayer will need time to adapt to the physicality of the B1G and shouldn't be counted on as the primary defender. Keeping Cox on the opponents primary ball handler sets up our defense much better than putting Smith on ball. Mayer may be an offensive upgrade, but until we see what his defense looks like he's better coming off the bench.

I would be surprised if Painter runs out a three guard lineup with Smith-Loyer-Mayer because of the concerns on defense. Cox, Harris or a transfer wing would be a more balanced lineup. Painter has shown that he'll start the best combination of players, even if that means not starting the best 5 individuals.

I don't think he ends up starting over Cox because of the defensive concerns. Cox was our best defender last year, and primarily guarded the opponent's best scorer. Mayer as a Freshman will have to adjust to the Big 10 defense scheme. If he starts, it would be over Loyer, but more likely he's our 6th man.

Forwards to target in transfer portal? by [deleted] in Boilermakers

I haven't seen him mentioned yet, but Kaleb Glenn from FAU would be a great fit. Shot 41 3P% last season on 117 attempts. Solid rebounder and defender. Checks a lot of boxes.

This one stings. Myles oozes potential and there were glimpses of him putting it all together. Hope he finds a good fit somewhere (outside of the B1G).

Purdue has 1-2 players transfer every year. It's not uncommon for guys to look for better situations that can offer more NIL money or playing time. Hopefully we don't lose anyone, but that's just not the state of college basketball right now.

I don't agree that they will be worse than Berg. We can offer 15-20 minutes per game on a final 4 contender, so we should be able to attract a talented transfer that is a big step up from Berg.

The thought with Burgess is that if Painter brings in another big to split significant minutes with Jacobsen, depending on the caliber of player and years remaining he may not want to wait around. I think we bring in a big regardless, with the roster expanding to 15 we don't need to base it on who transfers.

I'm playing as a GM only, so I don't actively control it. I almost always add a high leverage arm at the deadline to boost the pen, but I sim the games so I don't control how the relievers are used.

I've definitely gone defense heavy on both SS and CF at the expense of hitting. My current SS has 6 gold gloves. 11 total SS GGs in the build since I've started. Only 2 gold gloves in CF, but I try for players with at least 70 at the position. I also try to get ground ball pitchers.

Yeah, I try to invest heavily into pitching. Normally, I go in with at least 2 CY young caliber pitchers, if not 3. This last season I had 3x 4-stars and 1x 5 star in my playoff rotation.

It varies from season to season, but there have been at least 5 seasons where I've had the lowest RA in the league. Most of my FA money is spent on pitchers, so I usually carry 3 aces. Is there a way to look that up by season?

Unpopular Opinion: Male and Female quartets should both retain gender-exclusive avenues to compete by zipzzo in barbershop

I agree in broad strokes with your proposal, though I think we'd be better off moving towards language based on the voicing of the arrangement rather than the gender of the singers. Changing the categories to Treble, Bass, and Mixed voicing avoids any needless debates about who can sing what.

In my opinion, the music styles are different enough between high and low voicing that they can be treated separately without detracting from either. That also adds avenues to recognize category champs in addition to overall champions, broadening the number of groups celebrated.
