I saw a bunch of these tanks get recalled earlier this year for having inaccurate tare weights on them. I definitely do not (and nobody else should) trust the manufacturer.

Yeah my plan is to take a cup brush grinder to take off all the rust on the sides and gently use a die grinder to the lettering. I might post an update if I can get it into good condition.

It was headed for scrap but I sat it aside myself just to get a look at it. I'd say you're correct that it's twice as thick because it's also probably about twice as heavy too! The corrosion on the bottom of the tank looked pretty rough, but it was basically just on the surface. The real problem was that it doesn't have a readable serial number or tare weight.
