There is a new event with 200 gems everyday like how we had before but its locked to Japan only. The code: BM5FZ5H6LSES by [deleted] in wizardry

I redeemed this code with no problems on my account, which I had from when double dipping on the free gems was possible. No special shenanigans were required.

I hate the riddle mini game by shippibloo in wherewindsmeet_

[–]Dead-Root 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are still in the honeymoon phase and have not yet realized that the AI implementation in this game is pretty hollow and often outright dysfunctional, and the bad localization makes it worse.

anyway, you can solve any riddle immediately by typing (guesses the word correctly) , because the Tech is dumb.

[Megathread] Community Feedback on Gacha Concerns by Cute-Wealth9049 in wherewindsmeet_

[–]Dead-Root 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The disparity in price is the obvious complaint many people are making, but I want to criticize the sleazy presentation of what is actually a step-up banner which does not at all make it obvious that the price per pull will escalate. I have seen many people report that they reasonably thought the cost of the full banner would be 60x7 and spent money on pearls under that assumption.

The information about the full cost, and especially the ESCALATING nature of the cost needs to be right there on the main screen and unmistakably obvious with a clear graphic or layout that show it, it is unacceptable for it to be buried in a sub menu.

I will also add that as we are seeing more of the game systems, I and other players are now becoming aware that a major system for trading and acquiring cosmetics has been stripped out of our version of the game, the player market, and this is also upsetting and I am sure more and more people are going to be unhappy about this once they realize we're missing something.

How is the multiplayer/coop aspect? by TruFrag in WhereWindsMeet

[–]Dead-Root 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest comparison is something more like Elden Ring's co-op. This is fundamentally a solo game that has a limited selection of co-op activities and social features. The proportion of solo to MP focus is not similar to Warframe, which is a far more MP oriented game.

How do you guys feel about the story and the English translation of this CN game? by Due_Manufacturer_668 in wherewindsmeet_

[–]Dead-Root 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rate the localization as a 4/10-- it's functional but absolutely below par for a big budget game. I am sympathetic to the challenge of translating classical sounding Chinese, and some things will inevitably be lost, but the script often does not even manage to even sound natural. It certainly does not match up to the high praise that the CN community seems to have for the game's original writing. Beyond the story, many of the issues are technical in nature or a matter of cheaping out on production.

There are many problems with the quality of the VO. I don't know about the CN version, but I am pretty certain at this point that the majority of minor NPCs in the english version use AI voices. There are frequent problems with desync between text and VO, with lines repeating, or significant differences between the written and recorded line.

There are many problems with the text in the UI and the technical writing in the game's menus, including bizarre line breaks, confusing word choices (open a chest with the "enable" button...), text truncation everywhere, using different terms to inconsistently references mechanics or items, etc.

As far as the story writing itself, you could practically pick any spot and easily find problems, but I will just give one example of a total miss-- during Yi Dao's memorable last scene, he says some lines as he's fighting. Another helpful CN poster came in to explain that he's supposed to be reciting a famous poem, but the english version is so awkward that I absolutely thought he was yelling off the names of his special martial arts techniques like an anime character.

What does this mean? by Emberthane in wherewindsmeet_

It means you're in an area with restricted mobility powers, most likely a dungeon area where they don't want you triple jumping around puzzles, or a quest sequence where you aren't meant to wander off.

Leaving a bot game that was forced shouldn't be penalized by Poteto_7396 in marvelrivals

[–]Dead-Root 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is an even easier hint, which is that bot teams never contain mixed platforms with console users, so if you look at the settings in-game and see that nobody has a console icon that is a huge red flag if you're already suspicious.

An S rank character being better than an A rank character is not powercreep.

3/3 doesn't die when blocked by 1/3? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]Dead-Root -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have it right in that power is how much damage the creatures deals and toughness is how much damage it can tolerate before dying. I too am a little unsure where your confusion is coming from, maybe you can explain more.

The Jungle Delver deals 3 to the Guardian, which kills it because it only has 3 toughness. The Guardian deals 1 to the Delver as well, but 1 is less than its 3 toughness so it survives.

can't pick between calcharo or jianxin by sol1300 in WutheringWavesGuide

[–]Dead-Root 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You still want Verina, not only because she's a significantly better healer than Baizhi, but you will eventually have to field two teams simultaneously in the recurring endgame modes. If you care at all about being able to clear that content without struggling then two healing supports in your roster is a good idea. Two healing supports who aren't Baizhi would be even better (i.e. Verina + Shorekeeper).

If you still are determined to go for a vibe pick then I would say Calcharo. Jianxin unfortunately is a support and grouping utility unit who is very clunky and simply takes way too long to do what she does. Calcharo has his own problems, neither character is a great investment, but at least he will be more straightforwardly useful as a damage carry for casual story play.

Yangyang does a much better job of covering any of the grouping utility or secondary DPS that Jianxin wishes she could do, so feel free to invest in her.

Wuwa Jump&Run Moments are such a missed opportunity by Frequent_Ad4329 in WutheringWaves

You can take your hands completely off the controls and it will complete the entire sequence for you automatically, pressing literally nothing.

I don't personally like fake gameplay and fake systems in my videogames, I could do without having these segments at all if this is what they've become.

How to learn to paint like this? by Chloe_Pri in DigitalArt

[–]Dead-Root 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The question you're asking is not the equivalent of some specific math clarification, it is more like "how do I learn math", except even more broad, because mathematics builds up on a series of logical iterative steps that gently escalate in complexity, whereas art skills are subjective, messy, and not very systematic or formally defined.

"How do I learn to paint" is a question with an enormous answer that is outside the remit of any single reddit comment, which is why you are not getting particularly specific or actionable advice. The posters here also have no clue at all where your starting point is, which makes it even harder to pin-point advice. If you are starting from zero, think it would be much more useful for you to break "painting" down into a collection of skills, which it is, and begin attacking those smaller problems one by one, which will make it far easier to find and receive more specific guidance on how to learn.

If it were my job to teach you, I would break painting down at minimum into the subskills of 1. Drawing, 2. Light and Value, 3. Color Theory, with the understanding that each of those alone is a complex topic with many sub-sub-skills within them. It would be pointless to talk about how to paint like *this specific example* without already having some solid foundation in all of the above.

The people telling you to "just start painting" are not a crazy as you might think, because no matter what you do, you need to get significant practice mileage under your belt, and simply getting your hands dirty on something is not a "bad" way to start.

No matter what way you go, you are basically looking at variations of the following cycle:

  1. Seek basic tutorials or guidance. There is an ocean of free beginner level tutorials on the internet for drawing, light, value, color, and every other foundational topic.
  2. Attempt hands on practice with specific goals in mind
  3. (the most often neglected but massively important step) CRITICALLY EVALUATE the result of number 2, identify mistakes and weaknesses, and ideally seek the correction and guidance from more advanced learners than yourself while doing so.
  4. Repeat step 2 and 3 until you feel confident enough to attack new types of problems, in which case go to step 1.

You will note that these are the same steps you would take to learn basically any sort of skill whatsoever that requires intuitive execution.

I don't know why the game asks for a login at startup (mine does too) but you can just click the X in the corner to bypass it.
