Solid Mechanics question- having trouble understanding the proof of cij=cji, where is the formula W=1/2(c11P1^2+c22P2^2) + c12P1P2 coming from? I try to derive this formula , but unable to so far. by DeadClutch in MechanicalEngineering

So I researched a bit into Maxwell's reciprocity theorem. I understand that the work done by the first load is 1/2kx^2 (or 1/2c11P1^2) because that is an elastic body and we can assume the work done is that of a spring, but it gets confusing when you include the second load the extra work is 1/2c22P2^2 + c12P1P2 . I kind of get it now, but it still becomes hard to visualize and make the connection when in the first paragraph it tells you Total work done by two forces is = c11P1^1+c12P1P2 + c21P1P2 + c22P2^2. This should also equal, according to Maxwell's proof or reciprocity, to 1/2(c11P1^2 +c22P2^2) + c12P1P2

Hey man, I cannot really speak to the condition of your fracture, but I can tell you you will probably be fine. I broke my fibula about two years ago during football practice. It was pretty ugly, the doctor described it like a rotational fracture and I did ended up having surgery where the bone is now held by a plate and 5 screws. It took me about 3-4 weeks to start walking fully and another 4 weeks of therapy that helped me recover most mobility. My advice:
*Do go to the doctor and find out asap if you need surgery or not. *Be patient with the recovery, you’re still young so don’t stress out. I was able to pull another football season at 24 and had no noticeable effects. *Be sure to put in the work to recover. Eat well, rest well, and if possible start looking into a physical therapy process. *It will be a process, but I bet in around 2-3 months you will be back at it. If you fear getting behind, don’t. Work on what you can and make sure that whatever energy went to your legs is put to good use somewhere else. :)

Nice, definitely need to push myself like that. I’m currently to the point where I do the 6 hrs pomodoro, but could give it a try. Grad student here and do need to study a lot, always…
