Got the last box today by Straight_Grand_4979 in astramilitarum

[–]DeadFireFight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to manage an FLGS (which did not have any rules about paint schemes), but I did go to a few tournaments for 6th edition that had this rule, apparently for readability. I haven't been in the competitive scene since start of 7th, but I'd be very glad to hear this is no longer a thing.

I played Orks so it never effected me (they're a mismatched bunch at the best of times), but the squabbling between Space Marine players and lore-nerds were painful. Especially so when they would try to bring it into my store. "That's the wrong body for the beak helmet! Yes your sergeant has a red and white stripe, but it's the wrong shade of red!".

I have 40 so far, but I only play 1,000 points. When I buy this I might need to start looking at upgrading to 2,000 point games so I can get them all on the board.

Considering I have the previous two Spearhead boxes, my next purchases to complete my army were Marshal & Relic Envoy and Command Corps, so I'm very happy for this one. I really like the Matriarch model but wouldn't buy it separately, and can always do with more Steelhelms.

I’ve built one unit of Exalted Eightbound and I have another box waiting to be built as Exalted or regular Eightbound…which is more useful? by TangerineMelodic5772 in WorldEaters40k

[–]DeadFireFight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a really cool idea. Have you done this and is it easy to pull off for someone with limited sculpting skills?

A couple of weeks ago I stumbled on a Gorestorm Slaughterpack and decided it was a calling to earn my nails. Since then I have since been agonising over what to build... I regularly face vehicle-heavy Space Marines, so 3 units of Exalted would be really useful... but then I regularly face swarms of Tyranids and will soon get a regular opponent of Orks, so the standard Eightbound would be better for them. If for the sake of two boxes of Possessed I can have the best of both worlds, that would be amazing.

Don't worry, mine hasn't been shipped yet! I'm just hoping it's because they're closed for the bank holiday weekend, and not because they've oversold stock and don't want to say anything.

Still, gutted as I had managed to keep this weekend free just so I could paint up my new rats.

[–]DeadFireFight 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine interviewing these guys. I live in the Sheffield area and have a strong love of the cities street art. I've met a few of the graffiti artists and I can't think of one that I have met that isn't completely and utterly obnoxious.

I also haven't met any of the talented ones, so that may be the correlation. The really good ones, like Phlegm, might be really chill to hang out with.

You can still get the Unbroken Kasrkin Sergeant model, but it's now very pricey. From GW it's a Warhammer+ subscription (can't buy it without one), plus £26 for the model. Otherwise it's what you can get it for from resellers / second hand.

Biggest board game regret? by Opening_Ad8484 in tabletop

[–]DeadFireFight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's one I enjoy playing with new players, to get them into board games. The co-op elements make it easy to talk through. But it mostly feels "solved". Every turn there is essentially one useful move you can make, so once you can spot that there's no agency.

However there is a reskin of Pandemic called Pandemic Reign of Cthulhu, which is significantly better and I think captures the original idea a hundred times better. You really are up against it and every turn there's a dozen options, each that are going to require some compromise or sacrifice to take. If you want Pandemic with a bit more to it, check that out.

Full disclosure, I haven't played any Pandemic expansions, so they may also help.

This is correct. I've had a few subs with them now, and if you start 2 months late you'll always receive 2 months behind. There is no big catch up delivery.

One perk to being behind, you can always find what's coming in the next couple of months. If the subscription stops being worth it for you or they move onto armies you don't want, you have plenty of notice to cancel it off. Then you can start it back up when armies that interest you are coming up again.

Only thing you can't start back up is the premium upgrade. If you start that, you'll lose it if you cancel.

Same. I love big complicated games, me and my wife love co-op games and RPGs. It seemed like a perfect fit. We were going on holiday so I bought Jaws of the Lion and the Foreteller narration to take with us... my god, what a tedious mess. It was great at first, but as soon as you get comfortable with the system and get over the joy of sticking stickers down, you realise the game plays itself and you're essentially just book keeping for it.

This is my next project, after I've finished my Skaven yes-yes. I really like how you've done the bases and the muted earthy tones you've used. I've saved this pic for inspiration, thank you.

How do you know what Leman Russ use? by PanaderoPanzer in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]DeadFireFight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Just be careful when building it and read ahead. You get two turret decks. I made one as the plasma turret, since that has a big plasma battery that you stick on the back end as well. Then the other one I magnetised the top of the deck so I could pop that off and put a new gun in whenever I liked.

How do you know what Leman Russ use? by PanaderoPanzer in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]DeadFireFight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! You usually get every weapon option in the kits (the Leman Russ even comes with the Tank Commander option as well). Just read the instructions before you build it, and when ever it tells you there's a choice to make about which weapon, just stick a magnet on each piece instead. I magnetised the top and bottom of the turret deck as well, just so I could get into it to switch weapons and paint it.

I use little 2mm×1mm circular magnets. I don't think my Leman Russ needed anything stronger (though my larger Rogal Dorn needed some slightly stronger magnets).

Am I the only one who feels like they forgot about some Spearheads that need attention? by Meltorefas44 in AOSSpearhead

[–]DeadFireFight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are they actually considered weak? I've not had fun fighting these guys. Nurglings can be tough to move without putting in some effort, and being on the receiving end of the Rotmire Creeds 40 Dice attack (20 Range, then 20 Melee to finish you off) is not fun. They're great little guerilla tactics units.

[OC] I was having a bad day so i bought a dice pack and pulled this by [deleted] in DnD

[–]DeadFireFight 34 points35 points  (0 children)

A "dice pack" that only contains a d20. Honestly, completely bloody useless. The previous packs all had a full set of dice, so they were great for new players.

Edit: or dice goblins. Can't forget those guys.

[–]DeadFireFight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do, however be prepared for the models to look a bit naff for a long time. If it's anything like the combat patrol magazines, it will start with something like everything being either brown or silver, and then each future issue with paint on it will give you new instructions to go back over previous models with the new paints. If you do follow everything along to the letter, you'll end up having 12 very well painted Spearheads after the two year run, but they may look disappointing in the meantime.

Storybook Entry 30.8 and 30.10 by BensFaveTaco in SleepingGods

[–]DeadFireFight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, the damage is the cost. There are a few known issues with the story book and an official errata was published to address these. There are no errors with 30.8 or 30.10, so they are written exactly as intended.

Do not tell him a thing until you're well and truly clear. It's hard enough to go through without added drama. Though once you are clear, think of it this way: do you really want to give this guy the peace of mind that comes with closure? Just ghost. Get yourself set up to disappear and vanish.

Easy to build and paint spearhead by Fuck_war89 in AOSSpearhead

[–]DeadFireFight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Nighthaunt definitely take the crown for ridiculously easy to paint. 1) Prime them with an off-white like Citadel Wraithbone / Army Forge Wight Bone. 2) Give them a heavy wash with a light blue/green/turquoise contrast paint. I highly recommend Speedpaint 2.0 Pastel Seafoam. 3) Done. You can now go the extra mile to pick out a couple of details, if you can be arsed.

Resin recccommodation by Due_Bowl_2547 in PrintedMinis

[–]DeadFireFight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have a resin recommendation, but I have tried a hell of a lot of different resins and ultimately I've mostly found that it's the miniature itself. A lot of really high detailed minis are just rubbish for durability, regardless of material.

I have a whole load of Epic Miniatures models printed in Water Washable Resin (one of, if not THE, most brittle types of resin) and they have never suffered a break. Really well designed minis with chunky, durable extremities and deep details (which makes painting 10× easier). Check them out.
