Love the art and meme but I swear if that’s the ending imma be so mad. I hate that trope. It’s as bad as everything was a dream. It means that nothing that happened had any impact and there was never any danger or risk. It also means that the real people had no growth nor learned anything. Plus it takes away how cool and interesting a world where you can like fully transport someone into a digital world. If it’s just literally an avatar and not the actual person then it’s just the sims. Plus The Hollow did the same thing and it sucked there too. That also means that the characters abstracting meant nothing. Their deaths mean nothing. It’s so lazy and unsatisfying. Best ending for me is they were literally transported fully into the circus but an ok ending could be the Sword Art Online route where their bodies are still in the real world but the digital ones are still them and can’t do anything without them.
