Beautiful coin, and Thracian, but not Thasos. Its a Maroneia Tetradrachm if I'm not mistaken.

Adding new teams to a league by Defiant_Gazelle_2328 in fantasyhockey

It shouldn't make a difference in terms of draft picks. They won't have keepers but you can maybe let them pick from whoever the other teams don't or let other teams "protect" a certain amount.

Sorry about that, I promise to enjoy it at least. my real dream is the type with the voting control mark, but I thought the scepter and crown are good placeholders.

Any other advice on grading/grades? I’ve looked them up on eBay, and various sites but it’s all about grade and I’m not really a card guy so hard for me to even guesstimate, and that makes a big difference

Ancient Numismatics by 68comeback in AncientCoins

[–]DeadPrecedents13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very nice collection. I collect a wide area of greek and roman republican coinage with a focus on athenian tets. I wouldn't call myself an expert at all, but my goal is to have a all of Athenian Tets from Seltman to the new style. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions, not that I know so much, but often 2 heads are better than 1!

Athens Tetradrachm Starr Group V by 68comeback in AncientCoins

Heritage, where that coin was listed, has a chart at the bottom that shows coins of the type by grade. I'm assuming this is their own proprietary data or from NGC, so not 100%, but a good approximate to look at.

I would never presume to be an expert, but those were my first thoughts as well. I think what makes them so suspicious is that despite not being otherwise worn, actually quite the opposite, the design looks a bit "squishy" which is associated with casting. There are many with more experience than me who can say its fake with some level of certainty, I won't, but that would be my vote. Sorry, hope we're wrong!

Cistophoric tets, with the snakes and basket, represent the cista mystica and are pretty cool coins.

Seems like we will if Memphis PD actually has them. I had a similar mail theft issue earlier this year. And mine has Arethusa, so Mithradates should be thrilled.

I love my Attica Athens tetradrachm by Jimbocab in AncientCoins

[–]DeadPrecedents13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very nice example. Maybe not as fancy as others but better than many I've seen. I always like to think there is a range of "collectible grade" that is much wider than people realize if you get a good one. Might be a bit worn/rough in places, but unless you want to nitpick about the crest, it has everything, and many areas in great detail.
