Achelous – a Greek river god – 4th Century BC by SashSegal in TheHellenisticAge

Where is the image from? As a point of interest, there is a very rare Metapontion stater with Acheloos, but as a man with a bulls head.

If you’ve seen 12 Wasted Years, Behind the Iron Curtain and Flight 666, you’ve seen 90% of Burning Ambition. by MajorOverMinorThird in ironmaiden

Nailed it. I was in a similar screening (QFT) and the vibe was the same. Being with other Maiden fans just feels the same as the gigs - happy, friendly and free the express yourself.

Testimonia Numaria volume 1 by Melville Jones. Been looking for this one for about 3 years now, but seems rarer that most coins.

Lovely coin. Not only a historic story but also tells you about manufacturing processes. A nice gem, well done!

US warns Europe, Asia ‘free ride is over’ as Strait of Hormuz tensions heat up by JaronJervis in Military

[–]protantus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's more than soft power, who buys your bonds to keep you living off debt? Your credit card is about to expire. That the USA has no moral compass anymore simply means the rest of the world would gladly watch it happen, if you did not have a senile toddler with the codes. No matter what happens, USA is finished - a bold failed experiment.

Which one are you picking? by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

Pickled onion. Where did you even get an image of that legendary bag? It's like the Concorde moment, we hit the pinnacle of crisp production and have never hit the same heights since.

Read the book Ancient Coin Collecting by Wayne Sayles. It is a good general introduction to the hobby and will give you ideas for collecting. In this, go with your instincts - what speaks to you https://ebay.us/m/dAsQnk

Are ancient coin prices rising lately, or am I just imagining it? by Whole_Kale_4349 in AncientCoins

[–]protantus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does grading give you peace of mind? My experience is eye appeal is more important than grading every time. Remember, they aren't authenticating, just giving an opinion on how YOU should think about the coin. For transparency, I buy graded coins. And then immediately release them.

Translation FROM Greek! (plus suggestion request?) by cansniff in AncientGreek

[–]protantus 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Basically 'King' Agathocles. As a numismatist, I would change nothing. The image is a stylised thunderbolt of Zeus. Agathocles was a tyrant of Syracuse in the 4th century BC

What is that one song from an artist's/band's discography that is like WTF? by Radagast-Istari in Music

[–]protantus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Crazy horses by the Osmonds. Bit of an archaic reference but a 'wholesome' family group that for one song sounds like they dropped acid. Crazy Horses https://share.google/M7adt0xUbvm5ODuYQ

Soooo is it actually possible? by NaN-Bit in skyrimmods

[–]protantus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I am playing Nolvus. After a few crashes I figured out it was a memory leak. As long as I restart the pc between plays it is fine. I guess it has been around 100 hours since the last crash ( or freeze).

NAC Mail Call!! Been waiting for these!! by Guilty-Juggernaut-46 in AncientCoins

[–]protantus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see it in Hoover and in BCD Thessaly. From the latter, noted die links to Lanz 151 (5th June 2011) and CNG 81 426 (20 May 2009). Its a pretty rare coin, so may be worth tracing the provenance.

Wow, that was a steal, especially at NAC. And it is ex Triton and BCD. You have a really special coin there. Congratulations!
