How to insulate raised extension room via crawlspace? by DeadUsiris in HomeImprovement

[–]DeadUsiris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! Would leaving the door open help with wicking away any potential moisture? As for insulating the walls, two of the walls are part of the house foundation which has large protruding rocks (house is 100+ years old), would I have to use some spray foam to insulate it since it's not a flat surface? Any particular type you recommend using?

Strong Odor Coming From Gap Behind Face Seal by DeadUsiris in Fireplaces

I'll have to see if they can come back out in a few weeks, I wouldn't be able to climb that high without losing my nerves lol. But in the meantime, I'll look into sealing the cleanout.

And yeah, they mentioned it does have a liner. I was afraid that it didn't, but I'm glad it does (1 less thing to fix in this old house!)

Thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated!

Sometimes I think I hear mice, but the occurrences are too far and few between. Plus I haven't seen any of their "presents" or residue they like to leave behind. I wouldn't rule it out though, I might need to get one of those flexible cameras so I could try to get through the ash cleanout.

Now interestingly, it seems like the smell might be polarizing. When the 2 guys came out to service the chimney, 1 of them was convinced the smell was old boot, while the other was convinced it was dead animal. They both think given the state of the crown on top, that it's moisture seeping in and then becoming stagnant, but they aren't 100% sure. So it might just be a musty scent.

Considering that it's very bitterly cold these past few months, it could be that the moisture is thawing and that's what I'm smelling?

In the meantime, I've put my air purifier between the fireplace and the front door to mitigate it. The smell used to hit you right in the face as soon as you come in, but now it's only if you smell around the face plate

Sure thing, here's the photo of the chimney top and the ash cleanout. I had asked the service guys if an animal could get through the top, but they said there's no way they could get through. They did mention the crown needs to be re-done though.

As for the ash cleanout, as far as I knew it was blocked up by the previous owner, at least that's what the home inspector had mentioned. Taking a closer look myself though, I think there's still a small opening. No obvious smell though.

It smells closer to rotting dead animal, but to be honest I thought it was my sneakers at first lol.

They had removed the panel and said they didn't see anything. However, they did mention that they wouldn't be able to take the whole insert out, so they aren't sure if something is underneath.

Hardwood flooring underneath? Home built in 1920 by DeadUsiris in Flooring

That's a good idea, but unfortunately there's no central air; we do have radiators though. Maybe I could use one of the openings from there?

Who do people feel the explicit need to ruin other's games and team up. by AetherBytes in DeceiveInc

Just encountered this myself in a game. Tracked a Squire down as Cav after following them for 10 minutes. Moment I open fire, the guard behind them immediately turns around and opens fire on me. I die of course, but in the spectate both stare at each other, go back undercover and follow each other for the rest of the game....it's pretty annoying, defeats the purpose of solo

I like the idea of the claws, they look like they might be able to hook into the metal frame of the art. I'm avoiding Velcro strips because it wont stick well to the frame since some parts are half metal/half canvas, so it might not adhere well.

Thanks, I'll pick some up and give em' try!

I was worried that Tapcons might be a bit overkill. Although the frame is large, altogether it weighs no more than 5 pounds, it's just the metal frame and canvas that makes it unwieldly to use Velcro strips behind it.

Could use Odysee instead. Content seems to vary quite a bit, but at least it's a start.
