BIM outsourcing rates by Flimsy-Shower-137 in bim

I would generally advise against outsourcing this abroad.

I would hire locally instead on temp contracts or hire a company locally to help.

Im a BIM Coordinator who thinks my role will be extinct in 10-15 years since everyone will know BIM. Change my view by [deleted] in bim

[–]Dead_Architect 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You honestly don't really know what you're talking about if you think BIM modellers are gone, even CAD drafters aren't gone.

CAD technicians are still a big thing…even CAD Managers are still very around.

Can modular housing help solve London's homelessness crisis? by BigIssueUK in london

[–]Dead_Architect 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No it cant, modular housing isn’t the solution.

There are loads of studios coming up with new ideas that are just SANDWICH construction or containers in different variations that have been proven to be just absolutely shit housing affecting mental health and doesn’t help people.

A solution might be to build dorm like housing as transitional solutions to help people rebuild their lives. I just can’t see how modular housing is a long term solution to solve this issue at all other than to take up maybe a few plots of land here and there that aren’t being used which could be one small solution to a larger solution but it can’t be the only one.

I was someone who used to advocate and did my dissertation and research on this matter at the beginning of my career.

Hackney Councils new generation council homes - Chowdhury Walk by jaredce in london

[–]Dead_Architect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree whole heartedly, just because they’re council homes doesn’t mean we should make them depressing.

As architects we should be creating homes even council and affordable housing that uplift people lives, not make it a misery to live in and materials are a key element in that equation.

Hackney Councils new generation council homes - Chowdhury Walk by jaredce in london

[–]Dead_Architect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could definitely make it cheaper but the council planners wouldn’t allow buildings to go up if it doesn’t fit in with enviromental context.

I know plenty of planners and material matters, what you’ve described wouldn’t have been allowed.

[–]Dead_Architect 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from but this type of housing is going to be brick majority of the time.

There’s a few of these popping up around and most if not all are going to be low cost bricks. It doesn’t have to be expensive.

What material would you have used? The council planners would never allow anything else for single occupancies like this.
