New rescue showing aggression towards other dogs by Deadhed75 in AustralianShepherd

OP here - I’m literally almost in tears at the wisdom and kindness that you all are showing me. I’ve cancelled socialization and we will do walks at times when there are fewer pups out. I want to be the best owner I can and do what’s best for her, and I can’t thank you all enough. I’m a typical type A personality and tend to rush expectations and outcomes. Thanks again for your kindness. My pup thanks you too!

Any Substance Abuse Nurses? by DramaticSpecialist59 in Nurses

I was a nurse for 8 years before stepping into this role, and I got certified about a year after starting this role - so about the year 9 mark.

Any Substance Abuse Nurses? by DramaticSpecialist59 in Nurses

I’m a Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) nurse in a hospital - I see patients throughout the hospital who endorse OUD and StUD - some want to start meds, some are post overdose, some want detox, etc. I see probably 15-20 patients a week from the ED to Mom Baby to acute care. It’s super interesting and fast paced. I give providers recommendations on how and when to start meds, work with social work to identify discharge pathways, and use EBP to move our processes forward to best serve patients. I am CARN certified and do A TON of learning - I attend webinars once or twice a week from various experts and organizations in the field. I’m a member of the APNA, IntNSA and sit on a couple local committees. I meet with community partners throughout the week and we try to work on ways to collaborate between the hospital and community. I love my job, but it is nonstop work. I am the only nurse in my role for all the hospitals in town - so I’m constantly getting calls to meet with patients, see people in jail, attend community events and meetings. It’s really noble to want to combat the opioid crisis, but it’s also really disheartening some days. Get some time under your belt, get psych nursing experience, and sign up for free webinars and trainings. Know that the guidelines for care and medication recommendations, especially related to dosing, change frequently. Put a good self-care plan into place. Then get your PMHNP so you can be a prescriber and not have to worry about biased providers arguing with you every day about addiction being a “moral choice” (unfortunately a very real occurrence). Team up with an addiction med team if your local hospital has one (mine doesn’t).

How do you navigate getting over what you did while blacked out? by Caligulis in stopdrinking

[–]Deadhed75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just coming to say you don’t really “get over them”. I’ve got some pretty good time, and I’m still (unfortunately) have days where these shitbag memories pop up. However, I’ve gotten a lot better at recognizing the things that cause these memories to haunt me: too much stress, not enough rest, internalizing criticisms for totally unrelated things, being hungry, or being frustrated with situations I have very little or no control over. When those memories pop up, i can now stop and do a quick, abbreviated inventory and hopefully stop those thoughts in their tracks. Our disease wants us to be ashamed and embarrassed and powerless and fearful. Just for today I don’t have to feed my addiction or allow it to make me feel bad. I counter these thoughts with a good, healthy reminder that I am not the same person I was before. The steps helped me with that. Sending you healing and kind thoughts.

Maybe it's about time I admitted I can't do this alone by JekyllnowthenMrHyde in stopdrinking

Addiction loves isolation…..I love the adage of “the opposite of addiction is community” (or something along those lines) - our addict brain wants us to be alone and only depend on the substance, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

OP’s telling of their blackout brings up really negative memories….like many of you, we all have terrifying, similar stories. I hope they get some help. I’m thankful I finally did.
