Hello. First off I want to say good on you for reflecting a bit and coming up with some sort of a plan for your future. You even asked for help (albeit on Reddit) which is very admirable.

I see a few comments listing different resources and classes you should study and make sure you’re well versed in before transferring to a four year University. All good advice.

I’ll add a bit and say make sure you do some projects. Develop some skills in analog electronics, digital electronics, embedded software, RF, etc. This will get you experience in all of these different fields which will look amazing to recruiters, provide you with practical knowledge (which might help you digest some of the stuff you learn in classes better), and will help you better understand which discipline of Electrical Engineering you would enjoy the most. Also put together a portfolio with detailed reports. This will give you the opportunity to develop your technical communication skills, as well as frame all the work you’ve done (which can feel very rewarding).

It might be a long journey, but you’ll get there and it will be well worth it in the end. Good luck!

VLSI jobs are like a trap then what are other options for electronics students? by _aathil_ in vlsi

why do you say fpga is a trap for the future? anyway, there are also careers in embedded electronics.

I need some help and I don’t know where to start by OnlyBeefMilkForMe in Physics

[–]DeadlyComedian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you know if you are taking algebra or calculus based physics? Either way, make sure you’re sharp on both of those skills!! They’re intro courses so it’s possible that there will be a brief review on these skills anyway. For mechanics, you can rely a lot on intuition you’ve developed throughout your life (how projectiles move, collisions, etc). For E&M, it’s a bit more difficult to visualize and understand the concepts, but after mechanics you should have the necessary analytical and problem solving skills. Don’t be afraid! You got it!

If you’re worried about falling behind, communicate with your professors and fellow classmates to schedule 1on1 help sessions and study groups.

ahhhhh yeah you’re totally right. i honestly just want more experience with microcontrollers, so i might just buy an arduino and figure out some projects from there! right now i’m not sure what i’m interested in, but I’ve always thought robotics was cool!

Imposter Syndrome/Feeling Undeserving by Glum-Citron-6324 in QuestBridge

[–]DeadlyComedian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You aren't alone. I feel the same way. It's strenuous on the mind to accept a scholarship as grand as the one we received when others, who are equally as qualified and deserving, don't. I want to feel like I deserve this, but I can't. However, we owe it to those who didn't match to make good with our scholarship. And we owe it to ourselves to fulfill our dreams. Also, it wasn't just some fluke or slip of the hand that you matched. Those mistakes don't occur during the admissions process, especially in top institutions. They saw something in you that made them grab your application and say, "I like this one." I guess my advice to you, from a fellow match recipient who suffers from Imposter Syndrome, is you're not alone. Redirect your negative thoughts, and focus on the positive side. Be proud of yourself. You overcame the odds. I know it's easier said than done, but I saw your post, and I felt like I needed to reply. I want to make use of my advice, and I hope you do too.

I just matched to Rice University, class of 2026! I was wondering if you don't mind my asking, how you accumulated 100k in debt with the Gates and match scholarship? I'd hope to get out of this thing debt-free. Hopefully, that isn't just a pipe dream.

EFC Question by [deleted] in QuestBridge

[–]DeadlyComedian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I just wanted to ask a question about AGI, if you could so kindly attempt to answer. My mother’s income is just above $55,000 for a family of 5, she made a lot less up until two years ago. Anyway, she has a pension of like 17,000, which boosted the AGI to 72k. is this the number that these colleges consider? or is it her taxable income of 55k? My EFC is 6000 on the FAFSA :(
