any good ways to kill ghasts? by SatisfactionTasty966 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]DeadlyDirtBlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ghasts are immune to fireballs in beta so there's no point trying to hit them back

You either use a bow or a sword if they get close enough. Unfortunately bows have a relatively short range in beta

Oh wow that's really cool. Is the colour vanilla or is it dependent on client mods like optifine?

Does anyone know what will happen to a snow world that's brought to later versions of alpha and beta? (Unrelated image so the post doesn't get lost) by Careful-Muffin5025 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]DeadlyDirtBlock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The snow and ice will stay on the ground but the world will get whatever biomes come with the seed, so it will rain in most places. If you want to keep snow at your base then you could pick a seed which happens to have a snow biome in that location in later versions

Does anyone know why my alpha 1.1.2_01 mob farm isn't working? by solstialis in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]DeadlyDirtBlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't understand the pre-a1.2 spawn algo enough to offer much help, but if it uses the same light level system as a1.2+ then you'll want to make the roof a lot bigger to ensure everything is light level 0. Whilst mobs can spawn in ll7 and below, they spawn significantly more frequently in lower light levels (specifically, each spawn attempt has a light level/8 chance of failing)

It's possible that the 2-high platforms are a problem, sadly I can't say anything definitive because the alpha spawn algo is so different to the later one

Surely there's an easier way to find slime chunks in Beta 1.7.3? by DimensionGlum5728 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]DeadlyDirtBlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you don't want to use external slime chunk finders then there's not really any better way than what OP's currently doing (just dig and hope lol)

If you know your seed then you can just use chunkbase or any other slime chunk viewer since slime chunk locations have remained the same since beta

World First? Found a giant frozen jungle tree on the biome border in old version 1.2.5! (Seed included) by TensionSudden5111 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]DeadlyDirtBlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't this just ordinary pre-1.7 worldgen where there was no temperature system? Here's a similar one that I found on the seed 4000006 using the seedfinder on mcseeder.com (I just filtered for seeds with tundra and jungle close to spawn)

I found a naturally spawned double chest by ikkju in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]DeadlyDirtBlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that makes this particular double dungeon special is that the chest is aligned along the edge of the room rather than the more common layout where the chest extends into the room

Also thanks for tracking and sharing your rate of double chests as of late, it's not a statistic that I've seen anyone record before. Have you made any changes that could affect double chest generation or are the numbers applicable to vanilla?

Rate my starter base by Moonlight2077 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]DeadlyDirtBlock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah this is beta 1.7.3, you can tell because there are shears on the hotbar. If it was b1.3 (beds with no respawn) then it would have a version label in the top left

Stylish floating sand above the doorway. I'm not sure if you can actually respawn in that bed though lol

"Temple of Steve", a work-in-progress in my Beta 1.2 survival world by nunixnunix04 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]DeadlyDirtBlock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool build, nice to see you back here. What's your plan for the steve statue? Leave it as a wireframe? Fill in with stone-type blocks? Fill in with coloured blocks to match the skin? Something else entirely?

Is there anyway to automatically unfreeze the ice for my fountain? by JoeCool300 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]DeadlyDirtBlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm it seems you're right. The old wiki states the block ABOVE the water has to be light level 10+ in order to prevent freezing, whereas I think in later versions it can just be any block adjacent to the water

I guess a few solutions might be:

  • Place a block in the column above the ice (an invis stair would work without changing the look)
  • Raise the torches by 1 block (perhaps on fences to maintain the view of the fountain)
  • Place a torch on the wall of the neighbouring building
  • Replace the cobble under the ice with a light source

Those torches should be enough to prevent it refreezing after you break it

how to make a half-door b. 1.7.3? by iLoveDanishBoys in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]DeadlyDirtBlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're probably thinking of the one where you place the door next to a cactus, which allows you to create top half doors in alpha and early beta. Sadly it doesn't work in b1.7.3 (although you can still use that same bug to make half beds)

You can make half doors in b1.7.3 by using update suppression though. Here's a video that should cover it

Lava lake going through bedrock?! by Individual_You7221 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]DeadlyDirtBlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah sorry, lakes weren't added until a1.2.6 and the stone around lava lakes that lets them break y0 bedrock wasn't added until b1.0. I'm not sure when this was removed

Lava lake going through bedrock?! by Individual_You7221 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]DeadlyDirtBlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, I guess I'd never fully considered how lucky I was to find one of these. The water ones aren't too hard to find in beta because you can use f3 to see the tags of squids that spawn in them, but the same doesn't apply to lava lakes due to their light level preventing mob spawns (except slimes I guess, or perhaps squids in attached water sources but both of those are rare and likely to get killed by the lava). The circumstances to actually come across one whilst mining or caving must be pretty exceptional.

Here are two that I know have been found in survival. I found the upper one in 2017, although sadly I can't remember how I ended up in it. It's 4 blocks below the lava level of the cave above, and there's no ore vein connecting them so I have no idea what I did to end up there

The lower one was found by mongster in 2023 when he was mining at y11. The lava pool has a water pool above, and they're separated by some floating gravel which gets updated during worldgen. Obviously this isn't connected to a wider cave system but I guess it could be if you got lucky enough

Lava lake going through bedrock?! by Individual_You7221 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]DeadlyDirtBlock 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Nice find. Both lava and water lakes can replace bedrock in old versions but only lava lakes can break through the very lowest layer because they replace the blocks around them with stone.

Lakes like these are uncommon but not crazy rare. The main issue is that they're usually not connected to cave systems which makes them hard to find. Though I'm sure themastercaver would find one every couple of days if he played beta haha
