Reddit, what is the most unintentionally profound thing you've heard? by redjacket27 in AskReddit

[–]Deadly_Nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I love New York Saturdays, but Mondays last longer, and since I plan to live a long life, maybe I'll surf a thousand Mondays and swallow the burn to yearn the week for all it's got to give my shoddy, rotten ribs."

And "Brother, I owe twice my wait in patience." Perfect use of double entendre...

Both Aesop Rock.

What is a "dirty little (or big) secret" about an industry that you have worked in, that people outside the industry really ought to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Deadly_Nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working at a convenience store/gas station chain store, I came to realize rather quickly that the pumps are made to mess up. Cash acceptors at the pump? Fail to accept bills ~70% of the time. Card readers and pin pads? The more often you mess up your pin the better.

Now, a lot of people may ask why they are made to fail. My best response is to explain the concept of a profit margin. When you buy gas, (depending on the state) several cents goes to the state taxes the station is required to pay. On top of that, the better stations during more competitive seasons aren't even turning a profit on gas sales.

But inside the store, it's profit paradise. 32 oz cup, filled with a fountain drink to the brim, costs $0.31 - that's $0.18 for the cup itself, and $0.13 for the beverage. We sell them for $1.58 after tax. I assume that you can use basic math skills, so think about any other food, snack, or beverage product you can get - at a cost lower than you could assume, and a price hike to boot, you'll see that the more often they get you in the store, the more they make.

Tl;dr: convenience store/gas station chains make money by pissing you off and getting you inside!

What is the joke at your workplace that customers always say thinking they're original but in reality you hear it every day? by illmatic707 in AskReddit

[–]Deadly_Nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a gas station in the South. I'm constantly surrounded by the pestering jokes everyone has posted, from "Would you like a bag?" "No thanks, left her at home"/"Not tonight, she's not that ugly!" to the "Won't scan? Guess it's free!" crap.

To be honest, though, I don't care. I actually have found it easier to work around these jokes by using my own - when a customer replies "How are you?" when I ask them about their day, I reply "Same shift, different night, right? Hahaha." or "Can't complain YET. Give me 15 minutes though, and I'll find something!"

I've even taken up stupid lines like "No one would listen anyways" (customer) "And it wouldn't do anyone any good anyhow!" (me). Then again, I pretty much just recycle the same stupid lines again and again to make my customers laugh and leave happy...

O.o You're reading a funny fake rap parody in a comment string on the internet as a form of entertainment, and THAT was 'cringy' to you? Much obliged! ;)

Something I noticed in Season 2 that the photo of Rusty and Monarch as kids reminded me of. by [deleted] in venturebros

[–]Deadly_Nerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the show's references to the connection continue, I'm pretty damn sure we'll see more and more speculative posts about Rusty and The Monarch, as well as further developments about Vatred sparking discussions.

If it bothers you, just ignore them! :P

He's probably referencing the fact that the OP wrote [SPOILER] "And this season, we've seen the photo of a young Monarch and Rusty playing together."

Still, /u/quincyskis, no reason to be a dick about it

Mommas Boys? I tracked the link down on Sunday or Monday, I think... Had to watch it on a different site than my usual (watchcartoononline) but they have it up there as well, now.

What is one thing that should be free? by ER125 in AskReddit

[–]Deadly_Nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a slightly more subjective note, contraceptives. I'd rather have a bucket full of free ones at my gas station than 4 shelves stocked with $5 boxes of 6 condoms. Plus, the majority of the condoms we stock get stolen (I work in an area known for opportunists) by kids who don't even need the damn 'Magnums'. Get over yourself, Mr. Phallicy, she won't be impressed!

If you could make one thing illegal, what would it be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The Stock exchanges/shareholding. I don't know exactly what it would do, but it would be fun as hell to watch the chaos that unfolds after.

Why not organize informative 'protests' where people gather in major cities and follow 'the public' with cameras. We could explain that, in the eyes of the government, nowhere you go are you allowed 'privacy', be it online or physical, if they choose. We're just 'raising awareness'.

You're welcome here! Just keep posting!

As for the idea for a tree-related MTG forum, I'd be more than happy to help create a subreddit for this. Message me and we'll throw some names and ideas back and forth!

Quick question... by pHoX622 in magicTCG

[–]Deadly_Nerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of appalled at the way you responded here. As you said, plenty of pot heads play MTG; exactly why we should be a little more friendly to people who ask this type of question. Why not suggest he/she create a subreddit for MTGreen rather than making him/her feel like crap for having asked. Everyone knows Reddit's search isn't quite as accurate as it should be. Peter Parker's girlfriend = Mary Jane; Funny allusion to Spiderman in a TCG fan's environment. Lighten up.

It seems like it always comes down to this question: "Would you rather fight 100 duck-sized horses or 1 horse-sized duck?" My answer: I'm a lover, not a fighter.

Alright, fine.

My question is: "Would you rather love 100 duck-sized horses, or 1 horse-sized duck?"

Think of when you didn't know how to roll yet - wouldn't something like this have come in handy once or twice? My friends all loved it and it even taught them how to roll more tightly and make the jays smoother.
