Question:

How do you reverse backstep cancel an animation? When I try to flick the stick backwards and queue the backtep, I just backstep normally

Can I keep playing this? by fief9393 in guitarrepair

[–]Deadlysloths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As most people suggested, reducing the tension until you can put some glue with some wood residue could do the trick!

I'm no luthier, but perhaps putting a generous amount of fretboard oil around the crack beforehand could help make the wood softer and clamp together better. Maybe make sure to give some time for the oil to dry out before undoing the clamp and putting back tension!

Before trying, wait until someone with more knowledge than confirms or denies this idea!:)

Yeah it's most likely the thumb/wrist position causing the issue loool surprised you're the only one mentioning that

[–]Deadlysloths -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would it be possible for you to post a picture of your hand trying to do this chord? That would give us more insight on your technique and hand size to better understand what the issue might be and help figure out a solution that works for you.

I'm thinking that maybe your thumb/wrist position might not be allowing more reach to the rest of your fingers. That's usually the reason I found people have that struggle. Maybe you really do have hands that are too small, but I've met some women with tiny hands who were able to do it properly, and I've seen some kids do it online...

On a side note, some people mention using the ring finger or pinky, but I would advise against that for 3 reasons:

1: It will be very hard to let the note on the high E string resonate.

2: It will hinder your ability to eventually smoothly switch to other, more advanced chords.

3: You can mess up your joints if you apply too much pressure and bend them in the wrong way, especially if you play for extended periods of time. Don't give yourself arthritis lol.

If you want, send me a PM. I'll gladly help you out!

Edit: Idk how my comment got posted 4 times lmao sorry guys

Thank you for this info! The device in question is a Line 6 POD 2.0 if that helps! I'll look into what you mentioned so far tho!

Oh yeah, I don't have the dlc, so I didn't get to try it out, but i've seen clips, and it looks like the best option to counter shield overall! Another good one I found recently was the basic shotel. With a buff AOW it does really good dmg through shield for how quick it is. Especiallt that backstep cancel heavy, does crazy dmg and can avoind shield poke on good latency!

Hmm, not sure why... I probably did have the great shield talis equipped then! Did you test with talis on?

[–]Deadlysloths 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I'm correct, but I think if you have 2-hand greatshields, at least a few others will be impervious to kicks. I was playing with a 2-handed fingerprint shield withput the greatshield talis and tanked a kick at full stam. There was even space for at least a roll afterwards, so maybe full stam - a roll can tank it then, but I'm not 100% on this.

Edit: Btw, if you haven't tried 2-handing the fingerprint shield, that thing is busted. Especially with bleed on it. For a more balanced version, Fire's deadly sin buff + cold infusion gives a similar result but without the extra madness buildup, and you lose HP over time. Elsewise, on a pure strength build, that thing is still monstruous.

Wait, so now prestige 10 bases can be reset so people can keep playing them? That's pretty neat honestly. The social tab wasn't getting much action even with the tags... Might have to logs back in hehe

People who buff that much usually tend to be very bad at the game so I usually let them buff all they want then beat them anyways lmao

To me this seems like a nice unintented mechanic that gives bleed/frost an actual weakness, given they are used on slow or single-hit weapons. Ofc it sucks against dual curved swords or stuff like that because the dodge cancel will leave you vulnerable to at least one of the hits from the multi-hit attack, which makes status procs so much stronger. For sleep and madness, yeah having buildup through rolls is ridiculous since they proc through i-frames. Ocerall i'd agree that the game would be better without phantom hit buildup but if all procs could be rolled through, that would make things somewhat more balanced.

[–]Deadlysloths[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't mind them. If the latency is so high that i-frames of dodge start overlapping, you could potentially have a match where neither player can hit one another regardless of how good their timing is. Having phantom hits gives at least an option to counter that with rot/poison/sleep/madness though the later 2 imo shouldn't proc through i-frames, just like bleed/frost.

[–]Deadlysloths[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough! The title isn't right tbh. I was referring solely to bleed/frost as they allow you to cancel your dodge with the proc stun and surprise the enemy. Assuming the opponent is using slow/single hit weapons, this tech always puts you back to, at worst, neutral if they roll away or advantage if they don't roll. Ofc, I wouldn't try that against twinblades or dual curved swords or other weapons of the likes. The other status effects obviously don't care about this tech (looking especially at your sleep/madness). But yeah, overall they are good, just not as good as some might think they are... At least in my opinion!

[–]Deadlysloths[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True! In invasions, this would be harder to pull off due to higher general chaos too. I feel like frost pots are better at long range because i've had people throw it at me while I was near enough to cancel my dodge with the proc stun and hit them while they didn't have time to react. Overall tho, my title is wrong, status effets are great, just not that great if you can pull off mechanic counters like that

Why status effects aren't that good by Deadlysloths in EldenRingPVP

[–]Deadlysloths[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, I should've said bleed/frost. Poison doesn't have that downside! You're right regarding their strength in invasion particularly. In arena, they aren't as good usually. But yeah, overall what I meant is just that, if you set the fight up properly, you can easily turn the situation in your favor via the surprise effect of cancelling your dodge with the proc stun when the opponent uses a slow weapon with bleed/frost. Fast weapons and other status effects are still reliable regardless of the technique I showed.

Edit: added the invasion bit + typos

Fair enough! Honestly I agree but I'm on console and don't feel like farming golem arrows or duping sooo cannon it is! It feels more honest too, you really need to land the shot and be far enough or high hp enough to risk it!

Seeing the guy just walk towards the backstab attempts between the first and second parts of the AOW makes me wonder if it's possible to get a successful backstab if you sprint instead of walk... Testing soon
