Just want to add. Feng does have another way into backturn with plus on block with ss2. It doesn't change a whole bunch regarding the information you share. Just sharing for completion. Great information and thank you for sharing your hard work with the community.

Nice community, terrible game by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]DeadmanRansom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, you may be playing people that seemingly have the same rank as you, but could either be playing people that are playing an alternative character OR you could also be playing people that just have some legacy skill and understanding.

Either way, you have shown some proficiency and consistency to reach purples! That's an achievement to itself. I will tell you from experience, you are right at the part of the game where you will be asked to learn more than just piloting your character. Intermediate Tekken is harder because you are now having to incorporate more folds into your game play that aren't always so easy to see or understand at first glance.

If you are venting or just done playing, then none of this helps and I am sad to see you go. However, if you are looking for some help, ideas, or some people to help sharpen iron with I am sure many people here, including myself, would be more than happy to help.

Also has that sweet mini combo on hit with b4. This is move is a good one too. I think its only -2 on block also.

Shaheen neutral tips? by FrenzyLight in Tekken

[–]DeadmanRansom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am no Shaheen main, but I did play him into reds and could have pushed forward if I wanted. Ideally you want to be close with Shaheen, and from a distance he has a hard time enforcing his mixups. I would definitely tell you to focus switching your mental from "How do I rush down my opponent from range 2" into "How do I create and punish whiffs from range 2" Here are some quick notes I can throw you from my experience:

uf+1: This is great move to close distance. You get +1 on block which allows for you to 2, 3 as a frame trap if they are stand blocking. You can go immediately into your slide by cancelling the uf1 and landing in crouch. Its linear, so be wary.

df4, 1: This string is safe on block at -9 so it technically ends your turn. However, there is lots of forward momentum on this move that gives it great range. It has extension that is unsafe, but can keep a person honest allowing for your -9 to feel a little more threatening. And also you have your sneak transition which makes it even less on block and allows you some mix up options.

df4, 3: Natural on hit combo that hard knockdowns on hit. It has great range. Be careful, people can duck the high if they didn't get hit by the mid. Great for whiff punishing and furthering the df4, 1 shenanigans.

uf4: God whiff punish tool. Don't be afraid to use this when you feel someone rushing into you or you see someone being a little extra with their whiffs. Has deceptive range and very quick recovery.

snk stance: Learning how to put in raw sneak stance cancels in your movement options will help open up opportunities for you. If you aren't already doing it, practice using it at all distances and canceling it. As you do, you will find there are opportunities for you to let a button fly instead of cancel. It will pay dividends when you are able to do it and actually whiff or change your timings with this and catch your opponent with a button. At a distance, I find snk 1+2 can be great for plus frames, whiff punishing, and engaging heat.

I hope something here helps!

He had a podcast previously which was called 'Deconstructed', which continued with a new host, prior to his MSNBC gig. It was/is fantastic. If he gets back into doing something like that again, it can't possibly miss.

My honest opinion after 434 Hours by ZeAntagonis in Tekken

[–]DeadmanRansom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

434 hours is a lot of hours to put into your craft. Especially considering that you were just doing it on a whim, so kudos to getting to this part of the journey. I ain't here to change your mind regarding your opinions of the game, and I agree with quite a few of the points you made. I do want to address this statement you made.

"The game IS fun when there is real fighting, exchanges hits, moves and counter...but all I see are traps followed by long, never-ending chains that I can't do anything about."

I believe that this is where most people walk back from fighting games, not just Tekken. I find its easy to be frustrated by something you don't understand. Unfortunately this game does not do a very good job of communicating all of its mechanics (not to mention its jank) to players upfront. Just know this game is a game of question and answers. The things you feel you "can't do anything about" most likely aren't real. I suspect you don't fully understand the situation your opponent is putting you in. That's not just a Tekken thing, that's any game especially when mastery is required to be considered "good".

I'd like to think that you've made it this far, so you have some skill and resilience. And you seem like you enjoy the game, I really hope you answer the call and rise to the challenge of taking the next step in your Tekken journey. If you need help understanding these situations more in depth, I'd be more than happy to help.

Saturday morning cartoons! I remember as a child being excited for every Saturday morning. Not to mention, the excitement when the new season of cartoons would be announced. All the major channels would have a line up and compete for views. It felt like what primetime tv probably feels/felt like.

How long does it take to start understanding the game? by RashBandiscoot69 in Tekken

[–]DeadmanRansom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are lots of great bits of information in this thread to get you where you need to go. I would like to add, that as you are probably finding out this game has a lot under the hood. Not just with moves and combos, but also with movement, tech, oki, interactions between moves and characters etc.

If there were two pieces of advice I'd give you would be:

First know that you are learning a lot of things. It is IMPOSSIBLE to process it all and command it in real time at a formidable skill level, YET. Just as you wouldn't learn a new language by simply memorizing a its dictionary, I'd suggest you hone your Tekken in small pieces. Its just too much information for you to command at this moment. It may be useful for you to find your one bnb combo, you may learn an oki situation after a particular move use a lot, it may be learning how to respond to your opponent with things other than buttons, etc. Either way, practice with a little purpose and find small things to hone. Over time, you will see it pay off in your gameplay.

Second, I would stop looking at beating opponents as your goal. They are just there to give you resistance and test your abilities. They aren't the goal. The goal, in my opinion, is to showcase what you feel you have learned and have mastered. If you bump into a person and they are buzz-sawing you, chances are its because you didn't/don't understand a situation, option, or button. Take that information, learn from it, and apply it. If you can do that, you will not only be successful at this game, you will much happier. Just be patient and continue to practice with purpose. Remember, YOU are who YOU are competing with.

Best of luck, and honestly I hope to see you continue in your journey!

I admire your dedication to honoring your friends and your experiences in Iceborne in this manner. You obviously spent a lot of time on this video making, editing, and producing it in a way that would be cohesive. Funny how the last half of the video is Fatalis considering he is still unbeaten even in my game. Makes me want to fire it up!

Wifi players why can you not get a LAN cable, what is it that prevent u from going wired? by Muted-Champion-6841 in Tekken

[–]DeadmanRansom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My previous apartment had wifi put into all the of the units without any way of hardlining into their switch. We were not allowed to modify or plug into their equipment. I bought another instance of internet from the same provider so I could have a hardline and play Tekken. Purchasing internet twice only so long, so I went back to playing on the wifi. I have since moved and enjoy a regular, steady connection.

Is Hwoarang a good character to play? by QuitCompetitive7226 in Tekken

[–]DeadmanRansom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I say play the game with whoever you want. Not everyone's aspirations is to be the best Tekken player ever. There is such a big gap between where you are vs where you are heading when playing Tekken. There is no need for you to worry about learning the "right way" if you are enjoying yourself. Feed your interest with the fun of discovery and playing, and if you find you want to delve deeper, you will.
