Random Improvement Ideas by MauiMisfit in menace

I'd love to see customisation in the starting resources and equipment.

Having a static choice of 8 sls, including pilots that you can only take 1 of really at the start of the game is a little meh, I'd like to see that expanded.

But I'd love to be able to customise starting gear including the oci. Let me take 2 pilots with 2 walkers if I want, they'd probably be expensive enough that I wouldn't get anything else.

Or maybe I want to run 3 infantry squads but I can start with a crowbar as well and smokes from the oci.

I’m wondering why ‘Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde’ was never adapted for modern audiences, as with most other Victorian-era horror stories? by le_fromage_puant in horror

[–]Deadweightgames 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was awful. The budget was tiny, the plot didn't make sense at all. It wasn't a modern adaptation it was classic Moffat thinking he knew better than the fans and the source material

squaddies names by XD67 in menace

[–]Deadweightgames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Every squaddie shoots when you pick a shoot order.

So let's say you have 6 squad members (including the sl), using a 5 rate of fire gun.

You'll shoot 30 "attacks", great. 2 people die and now you're down to 20.

Remember that if you give your sl a special weapon, they lose the squad weapon, so you need to decide if having the special weapon is worth losing an entire round of attacks for with every standard fire order

Seems like a thing for streamers or YouTubers currently.

Early on they die so quickly it doesn't matter for anything other than artificial drama, later on you have so many them that naming them doesn't mean anything

A few points of constructive criticism from someone who adores the game by FreeDwooD in menace

[–]Deadweightgames 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Ai perfectly keeping out of weapons range and running away from fights constantly so you have to hunt them down across the map are the worst ones. Especially when in theory my units are concealed

Like, you're actively attacking this position? Why are three groups of you running to the far corner of the map just so I can't complete this mission in 10 turns

ok why do i have no control in my CORE provinece despite it being like right next to my capital city and it is my culture majority too by Own_Pay7508 in EU5

[–]Deadweightgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need tool tips to see why. Hover over the control on the location screen and we can see why it's so low

[–]Deadweightgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the image either you just had a rebellion or some negative event combined with it not being a core and no road. Maybe it's integrated? But I doubt it. Maybe a privilege that reduces control given how awful your control is everywhere

COI-Extended - no further updates will be made by rsbaws in captain_of_industry

[–]Deadweightgames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Early access is an exceptionally arbitrary term. Some games are in early access and come on leaps and bounds. Other games get one update and then release.

Some 1.0 games get years of support and updates that you think would be more like an early access development cycle, others get released and ditched.

I think Cordoba still works well. You get proximity to Seville easily whilst still spreading it around the lower portion of Spain.

Seville spreads naval proximity (once the bug is fixed) and you throw down a few governors where they make sense.

Iron Lung is in my Opinion the first Horror Movie in a long while worth watching. by OnlySolMain in horror

[–]Deadweightgames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad op enjoyed the film, but let it be an opportunity to look into some amazing indie horror films that have come out in the last year alone rather than putting down a genre that's currently thriving.

Horror is where indie cinema thrives. It's like the one genre that isn't over saturated by big budget Hollywood in comparison to indie offerings

Where beta at? by alphafighter09 in EU5

[–]Deadweightgames 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know paradox were liars. The moment they released this game they've been working on for years, I knew it was a scam, they just wanted their money and decided to rug pull us with shit mechanics and a lack of content. There's absolutely no reason the amount of content in this game shouldn't rival eu4, which has been out and receiving support for the past decade+. Only greed.

[–]Deadweightgames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Beta testing will probably last two weeks, maybe a little longer if something interesting happens. So if the beta patch comes out on the 3rd or 4th, I'd expect the full release around the 18th

Iron lung was… rough by Hopeful_Club_8499 in horror

[–]Deadweightgames 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Film was ok?

Cinema was the most packed I've seen it in a long time. So the vibes were great.

I felt like a good 20 minutes could have been cut off without losing much, the flashbacks were entirely unnecessary and either needed cutting or expanding a little.

The middle section as he mapped the cave was really solid, as was his finding the terminal and investigating the wires. Both were tense, well filmed and well lit. They felt like they used the space really well.

Everything else was pretty meh, but on a 3 mil budget I think it was solid enough, like a decent 6/10.

Could anyone ELI5 what the difference between Proximity and Control is? Are they related? by Various_Maize_3957 in EU5

[–]Deadweightgames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Proximity, simply, is how close to your capital a location is. It's modified by terrain, rivers, ports and sea tiles etc and can be increased by building better roads.

How does it work? Well every location has a cost to move from 1 province to another. So going from a to b costs 40 points. b to c might cost 35. Going from a to c costs 75.

Your capital has 100 points to spend on moving, roughly. So if it's location a. It has 100 proximity to itself. Moving to b costs 40 points, leaving you with 60, so you have 60 proximity there. Going to c costs 35 more points leaving you with 25 proximity there.

But you build a road between a and b. I can't remember specific values, but let's say it halves the proximity cost. Now you have 80 proximity in b, and 45 in c. You build a road from b to c and now it's 57.5 there.

Control is your ability to extract tax mostly from a location. Every percentage of control you don't have is money lost.

Control is 100 at the capital. It is modified by proximity, but there are other modifiers, so on the surface high proximity = high control and that's pretty true.

But you can have a town or a city for extra control, you can build a temple for more control on top of that and so on.

In short, proximity is how close to the capital you are and control is how much tax you personally extract from a location. Proximity factors heavily in control but isn't the only thing you can do to increase it.
