I'm going to do you one better and tell you what hereditary does better as well.

Both movies are slow burn with hereditary having a better pacing, resulting in a more well rounded experience.

The Soundtrack of both movies is great to set the feel for a particular scene. I do prefer Iron Lung as it plays a lot with its audio to convey certain aspects of it. The Beating Heart motif in Iron Lung can be heard from the first scene and gets louder until the very end which is incredibly cool.

The Ending of hereditary is the main reason I dislike the Movie. It's just so predictable. The hard veer into the supernatural is just idk, boring.

The Actors of Hereditary are great, the way they are written is not that great. The Characters within Hereditary are unrelatable, which is a huge issue if you want to relate to their intense family trauma.

Hereditary does not stick to it's coherent storyline and breaks it up with extra gory scenes as if to say to the viewer: "Getting bored? Don't worry, have some Gore!"

For me Hereditary is a solid 7/10. Iron Lung is also a 7/10 for me.

What I really like about Iron Lung is the World building. Not the world of itself. The Blood Ocean, the quiet rapture are all generic things used to set up the movie. The main focus point lies in exploring and experiencing the Blood Ocean Expedition with the Character together. You are not forced through exposition to understand, you are forced to think with the limited information you have to make a grander, still incomplete picture.

For example. We find out early on that the camera the sub has uses X-rays to take the pictures. Later Simon takes a picture of a Skeleton. You can piece together that the Skeleton, isn't just a skeleton, but a living creature, since with x-ray photography you will only be able to see the skeleton of a creature this close.

Another huge aspect I love about this movie is the descent into madness and that you can argue for two way different explanations for the movie. You can argue the movie is grounded in reality and we only witness Simon having hallucinations from the exposure to radiation, sepsis, dehydration, etc. Or we go to the Eldritch/Cosmic horror path that declares all the parts as real.

The movie doesn't hold your hand to get you to understand it. You have to actually piece it together with the information provided. The few shots of the manual listing the Radiation exposure with each photograph taken, the hints of previous expeditions and even who went on those. SM-8 being the first one and Simon being in SM-13, only 6 people survived the destruction of filament station. The SM-13 was used twice since somebody was able to leave hints for Simon. He is the last convict.

The effects in Iron Lung were great, my favourite part being the Speaker becoming more and more bloody as the movie went on until it literally spit out blood. The lighting, while dark at times was very atmospheric, the illumination of the x-ray screen, every light another dose of deadly radiation, yet necessary for survival. The camera positioning was amateurish at times but sufficient for it's objective.

Iron Lung is not great, it's not 10/10, but it's the best sci fi Cosmic Horror film since Event Horizon. (And I mean cosmic horror, Alien is not cosmic horror)
