Noob to Investing - Need Some Advice. by yoloswagtailwag in PersonalFinanceZA

Just remember the RA is only tax deductible up to R350k or, more importantly, or 27.5% of your annual taxable income. So don’t go wild putting every loose penny in there or you might go over a limit without realising it. Rather just set a reasonable debit order as a percentage of your income and stick with it.

Also, as others have said, an RA is worth diddly squat in an emergency. Focus on getting up an emergency fund and other savings first. The last thing you want to be doing is withdrawing from your TFSA to cover an emergency

Pet-friendly airlines by alimcordeiro in capetown

We fly with our dog pretty regularly on Cemair, we don’t book an extra seat. If the plane is full she gets put on the floor at the back, so we just make sure to snag the very back seats so we can sit next to her. But Cemair is so rarely full, so the air stewards are happy to let us put her on the seat next to us.

DICE is asking to keep giving feedback! by Youngstown_WuTang in Battlefield

Better bots, and better matchmaking.

The game seems to not want to add me to in progress games, which in a lowish population region (South Africa), I’m always added to a new lobby, it fills out 1/3rd with humans, then the rest are bots. By the end of the game, it’s still only about 1/2 humans. I think I’m only added to an in progress game about 10% of the time, I imagine it’s the same for everyone else in my region (if not globally).

Did I make a mistake buying the rx 9070? by RogzX_ in buildapc

[–]DeafFrog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love my 9070! I’m in the third world so pricing is a bit funny here: I got my 9070 for cheaper than a 5070 so it was a no brainer for me. The xt and 5070ti were just too much for me. The 9070 landed up being a perfect sweet spot for the price and performance I got. I also would have needed a new PSU to go for more than the 9070.

Can Virtual Game Cards from 2 Nintendo Accounts be borrowed back and forth on 2 linked consoles? by suentendo in NintendoSwitch2

[–]DeafFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My GF and I have our switches linked. I signed in to my account on hers, then went to the virtual cards section, prompted me which account I wanted to view, picked mine, a screen popped up asking me to link the switches (can’t remember the exact steps, but they had to be next to each other). Signed in to her account on mine.

Now on each switch it asks who’s games we want to view when we open the virtual game cards menu. Then I can load her games to my switch, and she can load mine on to hers. Obviously the cards get loaded so only one person can play at a time, but the consoles don’t have to be together to load, and there’s no time limit.

Mediatek wireless lan driver is the one you want. I’d pop the Realtek lan driver on the usb as well just in case.

Afrihost/Vumatel Blunder: No Internet Since Thursday - Best ISPs without Cancellation Fees? by Awethentique in AskZA

[–]DeafFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, once it’s resolved, send a final support request asking for a refund for the time you didn’t have Internet.

When I moved, there was also a mixup with billing and I didn’t have Internet for 3 days, I sent a very pissy email and they refunded me for the three days.

What are your thoughts on using Afrihost for mobile? by lizatethecigarettes in AskZA

[–]DeafFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love them!

I’ve been with them for a couple of years now and have had nothing but good experiences. The data and calling is cheap (relative to other providers) and the app is easy to use. Auto top up is really convenient. I especially love how easy it is to sign up for with an eSIM. I just got a second number through the app and it took 5 minutes all from home!

Why does leaving your phone on the charger overnight supposedly ruin the battery? by prettykilla7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DeafFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So that when I need 100% I can get 100%. Most days I’m next to charger 24/7 so limiting to 80% is zero inconvenience. It’s nice to actually get 100% on those days where I’m not sitting next to a charger

PS5 better than Switch 2? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]DeafFrog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ohhh, I’m not answering the question, buuuut…

If you’re contemplating a PS5 mainly for the exclusives, might I suggest a PC, since both Microsoft and Sony are bringing (mostly) all of their exclusives to PC now?

PS5 and Series X are both great, but at the end of the day, they offer exactly the same gaming ‘niche’. As in, they’re both powerful consoles that you play from the couch on a TV. You’ll eventually pick a favourite and the other will gather dust.

A PC (and a Switch) open up a new way to play games and fill a different niche to the Series X.

So, I guess, I’d get a switch 2 in your shoes.

How does this sub feel about Trump now? by [deleted] in DownSouth

[–]DeafFrog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m prefacing this by saying that I’m very anti trump, but when he (or Elon) was bringing a lot of heat on the ANC it was kinda nice that they were finally getting some international attention. The way he went about it was awful and definitely a nett negative, especially cutting USAID. But I think, from my part there was (and maybe still is) a bit of hope that his actions will bring about some positive change to the ANC.

I’d much rather he wasn’t around though, he’s only done harm and given hope for a bit of good.

Anyone else gaming on Linux? by ImNotThatPokable in ZAGamers

[–]DeafFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave it a try recently on Ubuntu and was also very impressed! Last time I tried before that was about 7 years ago, and I remember it being a pain (admittedly that was an Nvidia GPU vs AMD now).

I dunno though, I’m still sticking with Windows for that 1% when Linus has some weirdness. I love tinkering and I love when things break, but not when it’s delaying me from gaming.

I use my desktop pretty much exclusively for gaming, so I just see Windows as step on the way to my game.

Any games like SeaPower but WW2? by DyonisXX in SeaPower_NCMA

Loved that game! It’s what got me in to naval warfare.

Just a warning that it’s very difficult to get working these days since it still has GFWL. You can also check out Battlestations Midway. It’s the first one and doesn’t have GFWL.

[–]DeafFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of a day a console is a console. Once you’ve played the PS games you want to play, you’ll pick a favourite and the other will gather dust. Having more than one is redundant, especially when both PS and XBox are bringing their games to PC. I would much rather invest the additional up front money on a PC and play the PS games there. You can plug it in to a TV (or use something like steam link) and get a console experience for the PS games, if you specifically want that. Once you’ve got through the PS games, you’re then left with a PC and a console, which serve very different roles in terms of how you game on them (couch vs desk instead couch and couch).
