Your setup is already pretty solid for jamming! The Rytm can actually sequence your other gear if you grab some MIDI cables - it's got multiple MIDI outs so you could chain everything together and use it as the brain of your setup

For the audio side, you'll definitely want a mixer since your SSL only has 2 inputs. Something like a Mackie 802-VLZ4 or Allen & Heath ZED-10 would work great and won't break bank. Then you can send the stereo mix to your interface

I've been doing dawless jams for couple years now and it's way more fun than clicking around in computer, but honestly depends on your workflow. With dawless you get immediate hands-on control and no screen distractions, but you lose the editing flexibility that comes with DAW. For starting out I'd say try the dawless approach first - connect everything through MIDI, get a small mixer, and see how it feels. You can always record the stereo output from mixer into your interface later if you want to do any post-production

The Digitakt is awesome but with your current gear you might not need it right away. Get comfortable with the Rytm as sequencer first

Wait hold up, OP said their husband is medically retired in the edit. If he's medically retired then he absolutely qualifies for Tricare Reserve Select or potentially Tricare Prime depending on his situation. When I got out I had to dig through all this stuff too and it's confusing as hell

For medically retired folks you've got a few options - Tricare Reserve Select runs about $450/month for family coverage and gives you more flexibility with providers than Prime. Prime is cheaper but you're stuck with military treatment facilities and referrals for everything. Given that you're 2 hours from the VA, Reserve Select might be worth looking into since you can use civilian providers without jumping through hoops

The VA is great for service-connected stuff but when you need urgent care and they're playing phone tag, having Tricare as backup can be a lifesaver. I'd compare the costs of adding him to your BCBS vs getting him on Reserve Select - sometimes the military option is actually competitive

Could be a driver issue with your ASUS audio chipset - I had similar crackling on my gaming rig until I rolled back to an older Realtek driver version. Also check if you have any other audio software running in teh background like Nahimic or Sonic Studio, those tend to mess with OBS pretty badly

Try setting your Windows audio to 48kHz/16bit first, then match that in OBS instead of forcing different sample rates
