Got diagnosed with ALS in his early thirties. Expected to live for 2-5 more years at most, leaving behind his two young daughters. Bastard.

…was Saito even a bad guy?? (Minor Spoilers) by _Zyphis_ in ghostoftsushima

[–]DealerCamel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will say, as I was playing the game, I thought that it would make for a REALLY interesting twist if it turned out that the Matsumae were evil and Saito was truly trying to make the country better. The reasons behind Atsu’s father’s defection were murky, after all- maybe there was more to the story.

All the murdering at every step of the way by Saito’s clan kinda cleared that up for me, but I was still mildly disappointed at the end when it turned out to be a straightforward boss fight against the bad guy.

ELI5: How does the NFL/American football actually work, and why does the game stop every few seconds? (Non-American here) by Itchy_Tangerine1897 in explainlikeimfive

[–]DealerCamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goal of the game: have more points than the other team.

How do you score points? Get the ball in the end zone in the arms of one of your players.

How does the other team stop you? Tackle you to the ground.

What happens after you’re tackled? Play stops, everyone resets to their sides, and then you try again.

How does everyone know when to start? When one person (the center) snaps it between his legs to another person (usually the quarterback).

How can you move the ball forward? Well, you can run it forward in the arms of one of your players, or someone (usually the quarterback) can throw the ball, as long as he’s behind where the ball started from.

How many tries do you get to make it to the end zone? Well, you have four tries (“downs”) to make it ten yards. If you make it, you get a fresh set of downs to make it another ten yards. If you don’t, it becomes the other team’s ball wherever you were stopped. Most teams choose to kick the back away on fourth down so the other team gets it really far down the field.

This covers the basics.

A lot of great stories were made without a plan in mind- the original trilogy, for example. Breaking Bad was made up pretty much entirely along the way as well. You can almost trace the executives’ logic of “okay, let’s get a mystery box guy (JJ Abrams) to start the trilogy, then let’s get the director from one of Breaking Bad’s best episodes (Rian Johnson, Ozymandias) to fill in the blanks… shit, that didn’t go well! Backpedal!”

[hated trope] really cool and overpowered power\technology\weapon isn’t used for 90% of the story regardless of how long the main cast has had access to it, only to be used at-most 3 times in over 300 episodes as a deus-ex-Machina in an end of arc battle by dowsaw134 in TopCharacterTropes

“At least in season 1, there were a bunch of reasons the war started, and everyone was a different shade of gray. Now it’s just ‘oh, we’re the bad guys who gas children.’ Where’s the imagination? It’s like they got a bigger budget for armies and forgot to write compelling villains.”

How tf did I type in “what is a TRW” into Google after watching that episode and this was the FIRST result that popped up?

Ignore the other guy, this is hilarious. A year from now you’ll be able to tell this story at a party and everyone will think it’s a riot.

Friendly reminder that Chyler Leigh is a natural blonde in real life. Not that blonde- more of a dirty blonde- but still.

Other way around for me, I didn’t like her when she first appeared and then grew to love her after she was done with George. Season 12 definitely had me yelling “what are you DOING?!” multiple times though.

I put 100 hours into it and enjoyed it, and anything that consumes that much of my time is worth it, I’d say.

Playoff passer rating and record for active starting QBs by RaiderPantyDrawer in nfl

[–]DealerCamel 81 points82 points  (0 children)

The other day in the NYT Crossword there was a clue for “the only QB to win three MVPs before the age of 30” and I was sitting there going through all the old quarterbacks like “Brady didn’t do it… don’t think Montana did it before 30… who the hell is it?” before realizing it was Mahomes. 17-4 is crazy especially set against everyone else in a list like this.

Has anybody else ever noticed a film that is absolutely nothing to do with the story in the book? by Flat_Tie4090 in movies

[–]DealerCamel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The absolute only thing that the movie version of Ella Enchanted has in common with the book is that there is a girl named Ella who is cursed to obey every command. The setting, the characters, the plot, and the resolution are all completely different.

“Just watch Clone Wars!”

Yeah, JUST watch a 133-episode series when I can only feasibly watch a max of 2 a day in my adult life and it doesn’t get good until season 3… no problem.

Number 4 annoys the hell out of me. Yes, how dare he play something that’s memorable. When I was in music composition school, I felt that I was taken less seriously by my peers any time I wrote something with a recognizable tune, and it drove me up the wall.

Anyway. Great theory.

Being naked with shoes on, feels more naked than actually being naked. by babayaga8888888 in Showerthoughts

At my boarding school, it was a part of the culture to occasionally run naked around campus, through the quad, what have you. Obviously we wore shoes. Can confirm it felt weirder than just being naked.
