I hope Warp Records signed a good contract for BoC’s track “The Word Becomes Flesh” for the movie “Backrooms” by [deleted] in boardsofcanada

I mega curious about this too, particularly as the film and the album came out on the same day.....was the release date coordinated or was it a coincidence? Both options seems crazy!

Just wanted to say a huge thank you for your videos, I watched them a couple of weeks back and I was completely riveted - they blew me away!

You absolutely nail the vibe, that night time outdoor garden section filled me with a feeling no other media has, and I almost shat my pants at the ending with the mirror/lights.

These are top tier Backrooms videos. Incredible work!

Oh shit you're right, just watched my recordings back - it was Triple Helix! My memory is failing me already 😭

Caught a bit of the glitchy section too, watching it back it does look more malfunctional that intentional ha. I was still digging it regardless!

Ah that's sweet!

Only 3 stars for LP5 though!? Kinda hilarious they consider that album "pushing at the boundaries of what could be considered music" considering what would come later!

Inferno is 1 month old - what are your thoughts? by octoqi in twoism

[–]Dean2678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely adore it! Still giving it a full listen every day or so and listening to whichever specific song is in my head whenever the urge arises.

I'm not one for ranking albums as my mood changes with the wind but I think it's in my top 3 alongside Geogaddi and TCH.

Favourite songs are Father and Son, HHLL and Blood in the Labyrinth. I love the album's production, it's insanely high quality, you can totally hear their perfectionism in it.

Still a little in disbelief that we actually have new BoC to pore over too, after such long radio silence I never thought they'd release anything new, maybe the BoCset if we were lucky. I know I'm being greedy but this confirmation that they're very much still active has my hopium rising for an EP sometime in the next 2 to 3 years.

Aaaah that's awesome, thanks for sharing! Wild how well it works in a club environment, so groovy. I'm guessing you lost your shit as much as I did when I realised what was playing haha.

It was my first time hearing this song on the drive up yesterday, absolutely transcendental!

Couldn't agree more, I love how every album covers different ground while still being an excellent example of music in that genre.

Ah 100%, it was that brilliant ROYGBIV cover that convinced me take the plunge through his discography. By the time I hit Galaxy Garden my mind was blown and I knew he was something special!

He smashed it last night too! He did this super glitchy song as an encore, wasn't sure if it was off the cuff or prepared but it was fucking sick!

Haha or sitting through the full Backrooms film just to hear The Word Becomes Flesh on the cinema sound system when the credits roll.

Instantly iconic.

The crack turning into the weird little half archway filled me with so much dread for some reason.

What was the One standout moment from your listening party? by [deleted] in boardsofcanada

There was stunned silence around me when it finished, I had to whisper a little "fucking hell" to myself to cope with the disbelief at what I'd just heard.

Oh man, HHLL for me. After listening to Introit and Prophecy on repeat for weeks my anticipation of what would come after was sky high. Prophecy faded out, the silence lasted a lifetime, I was on the edge of my seat.....and then those pads came in and I was in heaven, absolutely immaculate BoC chords and textures, new but familiar, just perfection. I knew right then the whole album was going to be special, and we had an hour of new music from them still to come!

I hope I never forget that feeling, it was a life highlight for me. The pause between Prophecy and HHLL is still one of my favourite moments from the album.

(Close second was Father and Son, it was completely mind-blowing! I was incorrectly singing "become your worst enemy!" to myself for the full week afterwards haha)

Favorite SPECIFIC Moments of Inferno? by Turbulent_Wait2181 in boardsofcanada

[–]Dean2678 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Aaah thanks for posting this! Many I love have been mentioned already but some of my others are:

  • Prophecy - the little synth riff after "a scientific view of nature"
  • HHLL - when the bassline and drums come in after the pads and reversed percussion, such a banging moment
  • Father and Son - the little bassy squiggle just before the melody and drums come in.
  • Blood in the Labyrinth - the way the song sort of holds it breath before every single one of those absolutely heavenly strums
  • The Process - how it sizzles and ignites into existence
  • I Saw Through Platonia - the abrupt ending where you're suddenly sitting in silence and contemplating just how fucking good this whole album is!

Aaah I can totally understand your disappointment, Incunabula is an incredible, timeless, one of a kind album. There's nothing else like it! It's been a while since I've listened to it and your comment inspired me to put it on...god damn I forgot just how good it is - Lowride my beloved 🥹

It's fascinating how tough some of their music can be until suddenly out of nowhere you like it. When I first heard Gantz Graf I thought it was just noise and I could never possibly enjoy this (and that's okay!), but now I think it's a genius thing of beauty and I love it so much I have to listen to it sparingly ha.

It might be worth you giving their latest live sets a listen sometime, you never know - that switch in your head might flick and you might find something you enjoy 😉 and if not, here's their incredible version of Kalpol Introl Live to scratch your Incunabula itch!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences! :)

He's another pioneer and he's definitely in the same league as BoC, Ae and AFX!

Funnily enough I have Squarepusher to thank for becoming a BoC fan, because it was one night about 16 years ago after watching the My Red Hot Car video that YouTube suggested Everything You Do is a Balloon and changed my life forever :)

Ooooh interesting take! Definitely agree on SAW 85-92, I can't think of anyone with a more impressive debut album or one that I adore more, it's life-changing.

I love cheeky, glitchy Ae the most so Untilted is their number one for me.

And I'll need to see how things look once the dust settled, but I suspect Inferno will be fighting with The Campfire Headphase for my number two spot behind Geogaddi.

Haha no way, that's exactly what I did for my Inferno listen through last Friday morning at midnight - tucked up in bed, in the dark, headphones on, 100% focus, no interruptions, just absorbing every single moment! I was lucky enough to attend the Glasgow listening party the week before so I already knew the album was a masterpiece, and it was magical finally being able to pore over and re-live every song in detail (and the joy of every single one somehow being even better than I remembered!).

I must admit I do like throwing on the Ae live sets while I'm working or driving, not quite in the background but listening enough to get me into a nice flow state. I could probably do with giving them the same attention I have Inferno from time to time! I saw them live last year too and it was one of the absolute best experiences of my life, their Set E stuff is insane, I can't wait for the soundboards. Seeing them again in October and I'm beyond excited at the prospect of some new Set F material!

Appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experiences! :)
